Not all females in all species get to have their way. A number of mating rituals in the animal kingdom amounts to nothing more than brutal, misogynistic rape.
Yup. Rape happens, but that can also be a form of sexual selection. For example, Duck females have spiral vaginas to help fend off rape.
That's the inherent problem with rape, no? Unless the female dies, the male's aggressive behavior gets passed on.
That's also the downside - if the female dies, no one's genes get passed on and everybody loses.
And there are the cases where so much male competition over a female damages the female and lowers offspring potential. It's like the Nash equilibrium, but with rape.
We give the crappy gifts cause they keep running away with our good stuff without giving it up. Why give them something good if they are just gonna steal it?
