By the end of February, the Obama campaign had earned more than $170 million, compared to just $75 million for GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney.

you wanna try reading that again, subby ?

There's also the whole thing about it being the other GOP candidates being the ones who are constantly complaining about how much Romney spends, not the Democrats.

"Romney spent $75 Mil on the GOP primaries: "OMG"."

Who's OMGing? Unless it's Romney's kids, who cares? It's not like it's my inheritance he's futilely blowing through.

2012-04-09 09:28:42 AM
Not to mention the fact that most of Obama's spending has been on setting up his campaign operation in swing states while Romney has spent the bulk of his attacking his primary challengers. Which is a more effective strategy for the general election?

2012-04-09 09:30:45 AM
"The fact that he has spent more than all Republicans combined should really raise eyebrows for campaign finance lawyers, to understand why he needs to spend so much money so early in the campaign season," says Darling.

Umm, to outspend and win? The man doesn't make up the rules. He plays the game better. Jealous much?

2012-04-09 09:35:12 AM
Well in order to compare apples to apples you would have to factor in all the free travel, air time, and ground logistics that an incumbent gets. It's one of the perks of elected office.

2012-04-09 09:37:15 AM
That was just 6 hours of Obama campaigning right subby?

2012-04-09 09:50:29 AM

Just wait till ya see what Obammy does with YOUR money.

2012-04-09 09:53:17 AM
So, some guy from the Heritage Foundation is upset that Obama is spending money from his massive war chest?

Shocking.

Yes, why is he spending so much money NOW in an unopposed primary?!?!?!?

Well, I would think it is so he can setup massive voter drives and huge get out the vote efforts in every state possible and begin building voter momentum as early as possible.

Or, he is setting up an underground network for nefarious liberal gains.

I'm more going to go with: Your blog sucks, subby.

The claim that Obama has spent 150 million sounds like something that's honestly completely made up and pulled out of someones ass. Oh look, the numbers come from the Heritage Foundation.

2012-04-09 09:53:48 AM
Oh noes, someone just said politicians spend a lot of money to win elections! Shock, anger, dismay!

One place Obama won't be spending money this year is Texas. Steufloff says at this point, it would be a complete waste if he did.

Way to go out on a limb, sucky blog maker

2012-04-09 09:58:26 AM
Setting up campaign offices in states =/= spending money on primaries.

Made up numbers mean nothing.

Obama will spend closer to $750-$1B by the time all is said and done. Probably more when factoring in all the SuperPACs. Don't like it? Thank the Roberts court.

Aaaaaaannd your blog sucks.

But the Heritage Foundation's Brian Darling disagrees, and points out the president has spent $150 million in primaries where he's unopposed.
"The fact that he has spent more than all Republicans combined should really raise eyebrows for campaign finance lawyers, to understand why he needs to spend so much money so early in the campaign season," says Darling.

Why would it raise eyebrows for campaign finance lawyers?

Aarontology: There's also the whole thing about it being the other GOP candidates being the ones who are constantly complaining about how much Romney spends, not the Democrats.

Wrong, sorry. The Republicans have ALWAYS loved Romney and the campaigns of Santorum/Gingrich/Paul were entirely funded by secret Soros trusts in order to secretly undermine the Republican party. Thankfully the Republicans had a clever retaliation plan whereby they pretended to support Santorum so that he wouldn't drop out and they could waste more of Soro's liberal money by continuing to fund Santorum for months, which is money that won't make it into Obama's Kenyan coffers.

Suck it, libs.

150 million buys a lot of FEMA trailers, illegal alien voter mobilization squads and HAARP being aimed at suburbs ans exurbs in swing states. Wake up America!

No, I think you're right; at no point in the article does it say anything about how much Obama's spent so far. It says he's earned $150 million, but that's it.

Personally, I doubt he's spent very much at this point. Why would he?

It lets them know it's going to be a very profitable year for them.

So this guy from the Heritage Foundation is implying that Obama is a more effective jobs creator than Romney? Interesting.

Funny that some people will oppose paying taxes, but fritter away millions on the campaigns of candidates that don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of being elected. It's nice that their wealth is making it's way back into the economy though. As long as it's all privately funded I don't think it matters much who spends what.

The numbers in the blog are accurate. See the times info here (new window)

Important to note is that campaign money cannot simply be transferred from the primary election account to the general election account, So if you raise it for the primary season, you have to spend it during the primary season.

NYT has the same numbers.

Also, the Obama campaign's payroll is more than double all the Republicans combined.

You don't understand. White people who aren't afraid of black people are going to vote for Obama.

The black guys were there to scare away white people who are scared of black people, to prevent them from voting against Obama.

It makes perfect sense.
