I'm single and childless, but I've seem some pretty horrid shiat that some women can and will pull because they can work up the tears in front of a judge or some other official.

Of course, my example came from a divorcing couple where she worked in an office that deals with such things, so she had judges and lawyers and child services more or less in her pocket from the get go.

Much of it can get fixed later on, if you find a competent lawyer, may have to move quite a distance away though. The unfortunate guy above had to move out of the state entirely, and then hire a lawyer there.

You are lucky as hell you don't have kids is all I'm gonna say. I have a co-worker who got divorced 2 years ago and they have 2 kids. She held a loaded gun on him, and she got busted for that, 2 DUI's within 3 months of each other, and had the kids temporarily taken away from her for 6 months when she got so drunk the kids couldn't wake her and the eldest (9 years old at the time) called 911. Despite this, Social Services recommended she retain primary custody after she finished her counseling and my co worker gets the kids 3 weekends a month, has to pay her about 40% of each paycheck in child support, and has to pay for health insurance for the kids. The system is so freaking biased against men in some areas it's ridiculous.

This. The extremes can be bad(I never implied it always was, but that it can be), despite all the legalese supposedly limiting it, it does happen, and all too often.

A smart lawyer, and/or crooked/extremely biased judge, and you ARE going to get people who get majorly screwed no matter what they do unless they've got tons of money to throw at excellent top shelf lawyers(and even then...).

Sad state of affairs, but we're gaining ground...well, it's an ongoing battle.... You can still see how a lynch mob is right around the corner for society though, look at the whole Zimmerman thing going on.

After I filed the initial paperwork, I get a letter from her lawyer saying that she wanted 4x's the amount we agreed to what was fair.

Some 6-months of arbitration, after she pays her lawyer and the taxes, she ended up with a little less than what I initially offered her. Thankfully my lawyer was a family friend, so he was pro-bono. If it wasn't for that, we would have both shelled out a bunch of legal fees almost equaling the awarded amount. Hopefully it'll be simple for you. It wasn't for me.

That's exactly why I wanted it down in writing, and on the level. If she wants what's her's, and wants it quickly/easily, then she has to play ball with me. That said, it's not as if it's a cover piece, it's article fluff, an ad piece. It's not like it's touted as some pinnacle of womanhood, mother of god! type picture, therefore, imo, doesn't really deserve any outrage.

I don't really appreciate the whole "photoshop everyone always" mentality of marketing these days in general. Especially when it comes to pretty ladies. The flaws are part of what make them so beautiful. Turning every picture into a CGI rendering of a succession of nearly identical plastic dolls is boring.

Oh, I agree, the look can easily be done badly, and isn't necessarily a helpful thing as a "go to" treatment for photo's, and certainly isn't tailor'd to personal taste of people who will look close, as we are relatively few.

Altered works, imo, can be more fitting for a "work of art", but I suppose I wasn't addressing what you were saying precisely, it was more of an aside to the topic.

Then again, par imaging for an ad, for a par show, on a sub par network...I don't expect much effort at all to overcome "standard".

As for the standard itself, it is there for a reason, and advertising is not precisely why it is there. They do what works(as a whole mind you, they do have their spectacular failures). Realistic, as a blanket treatment, does not go over as well with the masses as does softened, highlighted, then artificially shadowed, in an idealized manner.
