I didn't know she had a pony. How was I to know she had a pony? Who figures an immigrant's going to have a pony? Do you know what the odds are on that? I mean, in all the pictures I saw of immigrants on boats coming into New York harbor, I never saw one of them sitting on a pony. Why would anybody come here if they had a pony? Who leaves a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country? It doesn't make sense.. am I wrong?

This makes me mildly aggravated. I rode at a therapeutic riding facility for years, ended up competing against able-bodied people for a little while. The confidence boost was really nice for my introverted, insecure little self.

Someone is remaking My Little Pony (as a proper kid's show, not the typical Adult Swim cartoons-for-grownups that have made the channel so popular). A lot of 20s-something single man-children have latched onto it and spend their days spamming it over the internet.

They're harmless, but yeah, it's a little weird.

Sort of. My Little Pony: Frendship is Magic is a show marketed towards girls and younger boys. The animation and production of this show was headed by someone who helped put together The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. So there were alot of those 20+ year old guys growing up watching that stuff.

It's funny and has alot of little stuff meant to go over the heads of the kids and get a chuckle from the adults. An episode from this season involved them parody-ing The Big Lebowski. No kid is going to get that reference. Stuff like that.

That and Pinkie Pie is hilarious to me and my 5 yeard old son.

/the meme's are generally funny too

Saying that MLP is like a cure for cancer, like some fans seem to proclaim, is a bit excessive, but MLP has helped me on two things: get along better with my nieces, and relieve some of the stress I got through the week.

So yeah, I like being the cool uncle.

Sites like Equestria Daily Link (new window) and conventions like BronyCon Link (new window) pretty much disprove this theory. That, and I'm a brony (or pegasister) and I can tell you first hand that everyone who loves the show loves it sincerely. Is it silly? Yes. Juvenile? Yes. But so is just about every other geeky fandom out there. Ours just happens to be filled with guys who don't have preconceived notions about gender bias in entertainment.

Basically, it's cynical bullshiat attitudes like this that have made me scarce on Fark over the past year. Say what you want about the brony community, but for the most part we take the "Love and Tolerate" creed very seriously. Well, maybe not the ones on 4chan where the whole thing started...

We don't like to talk about that place much.

I like the show, and the community that's sprung up around it. The characters are unique, the stories (and songs!) are well done, and the visual gags/references are just icing on the cake. (Where else can you catch references to Sherlock Holmes, Julia Child, old silent films, James Bond, and Samurai Jack all in the same episode?)

"When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." ― C.S. Lewis

I totally enjoy the show. I also enjoy Phinease and Ferb. Just because something is marketed towards 5 y/o girls doesn't mean it HAS to suck. That's just usually the case. FiM has a good mix of likable/well developed characters, beautiful animation, interesting stories, and fun references that keep me entertained.

As for not talking about 4chan and "love and tolerance"... /b/ came up with "love and tolerate" as a snarky "fark you" to trolls. Ponychan actually believes that shiat, but are a bunch of hypocrites about it: loving and tolerating only what they agree with. FWIW, most of the EqD staff are /co/ or /b/ posters.

To do drugs or cosplay? Both cost a ton of money and will ostracize you from normal society.
