foo monkey: A new generation of people standing in fire.

I can see that not working well with Siri.

Where's the nearest Fire Exit.

Let me check that for you.

I found 7 listings for Chick-fil-A.

What? Chick-fil-A? How did you get that from Fire Exit.

Let me check that for you

I found 7 listings for Chick-fil-A.

No. Fire Exit! Find me the fire exit now!

Adding appointment for Fire Exit, is this ok?

Oh God! I'm going to die!

I found 3 places for hair coloring, would you like me to display them for you?

/why yes, I am not right in the head, why do you ask?

My husband's sense of direction is so bad he probably has gotten lost on his way to the bathroom. Someone kindly telling him "Turn left a Television" would be quite useful.

I'm sure changing your Boss's office into the shiatter on Google Floor Plan would be hilarious.

2012-04-09 07:59:01 AM
That'd be almost helpful with my new job. Working IT and having to remember where everyone is in a 5 floor building. The only problem for me, is that they tend to move people around for no apparent reason.

2012-04-09 08:50:31 AM
This is only for "public" spaces - such as malls, airports, etc. Nothing for a large private office or campus. What are people using to map out their private offices?

2012-04-09 08:53:12 AM
Microsoft had a mobile app at least 7 years ago based on their internal SharePoint data from MSSpace. You could find anyones office and floor plans for almost every building. We used it mostly to see how close the senior PMs were to the bathrooms.

But do malls really want this?
Because it has always seemed to me that they are designed specifically to make it difficult to go directly to where you want to shop. In this way, you are more likely to make an impulse buy at the Cinnabon that you have come across five times on the way to the sports store..

close. they make it hard to get out. im sure they will do what they can to lubricate your way to a specific retailer. hmm... or will they

Right. But that would be eliminated if you can search for the nearest exit.

I'm going with the balance on getting us lost. Because we eventually find what we want anyway. And the longer they keep you there, the better for them.

Of course even if they allow this service, they could just fark with the maps that they give to Google.

Probably not. Their directories are rarely visible or updated. The amount of stores I come back to find closed is better kept secret.

I'm sure the state of north carolina must have felt the same way about google maps and gps; their street signs must be small, out of sight or non-existent for some reason

Professor Horatio Hufnagel: Do they really think that the people who are already too stupid to comprehend mall directories will be able to use this application?

This seriously what the local mall's directory looks like. www.streetsatsouthpoint.com

All the smaller shops are designated a floor and a lettered zone. Where in the zone? fark you, that's where.

The place is ridiculously massive and sprawling. It takes a while to cross.

Intra-mall is cool, but it'd be nice if it could be scaled down to intra-store as well. It'd be nice to go into a warehousey home store and be able to find a ball of twine without trying to guess what section they felt was appropriate for it.

Meanwhile, people will continue to look at maps as if its an ancient language and their attempts to decipher its complex meanings; completely ignoring any sign that points them in the direction they are looking to go in and simply asking,"WHAR THE FARK IS X?" when it is simply right in front of their eyes.

Any person that asks where the bathroom is, when they're (both the person and the farking bathroom) right next to the map or when a farking sign points them into the right direction, seem to be completely unaware of their surroundings and make me wonder just how they've made it this far in life. Its like someone has been holding their hand all through life and they require that assurance that they'll always be made of their surroundings because they're so inept at keeping up with their own.

Judging by the Project Glass video, I'd say they want to take it that way. At around 1:03 the guy walks into a bookstore and asks where the music section is, and it pulls up an internal map of the store, complete with route. That seems a little bit overboard, even for a big box store.
