Even up to the Clinton years, anyone who made outright personal attacks against POTUS or his family would be browbeaten into shame in a heartbeat.

The utter lack of respect shown to this President has been astonishing, and sets a terrible precedent going forward.

I firmly expect the next GOP President will cause Republicans to go into an apoplexy if anyone even thinks of questioning something he did.

Yes he. The Republicans will not elect a woman, and they will elect at least one more President.

I'm glad to hear Republicans so vocal about this. It will be nice to have all the footage next time they start screaming about activist judges.

I really think that it's a ploy by Obama to make them eat their "activist judges" stance. The same people are blasting Obama are the ones the praised gnute when he said the president could ignore the Supreme Court.

every day I see further examples of the hatred and lack of respect given the President and every day I wonder if we finally hit bottom. I'm not sure there IS a bottom to this rabbit hole though. The GOP hates Obama. *hates* him. not merely disagrees with the man or his beliefs...they hate HIM, personally. it has nothing to do with his policy decisions, it's a direct and personal hatred for Obama.

that really worries me. that level of hatred from so many Republicans/elected officials is bad for a country.

Remember back when Bush was president? if anyone so much as HINTED at a mild disagreement with President Bush, the GOP was all over you with accusations of treason. Fast forward a couple/few years and the GOP is perfectly ok with calling the President of the United States 'stupid'...or worse.

This was after the 9/11 extreme paranoia and it eventually did die down. Not that it excuses them, but still.

sometimes I don't know if the GOP actually HAS anything to disgree with Obama about. lets face it - Obama is a mildly right wing centrist. he occasionally veers to the left, but never very far and certainly not for very long. In many respects, his policies mirror that of Clinton and even Bush. And yet...the Republicans hate the man. They should be able to tolerate him, even make deals with him to get things done, like they did with Clinton. But they *hate* Obama.

So in that sort of environment, it's sometimes difficult to sort out honest disagreement over policy decisions from the sheer raving lunacy of the Republican hatred for President Obama. I'm not saying it's an excuse to lump everyone into the hater camp...but it is what it is man. lots of hate and discontent out there on the right wing these days and it's loud and stinky.

You should click that little star next to Mike_LowELL's name and mark him something like "Poe's Law Troll". He rides that line between real opinion and satire, but, unlike some others, he does it intentionally. He can be quite amusing at times, making the dumbest argument just as a way to hold it up to the light so people can see just how incredibly dumb it really is.

Since they haven't actually won an election since 1988, and have only gotten more extremist, that might not happen until the party implodes and reorganizes as a more moderate model.

He is saying that it doesn't speak well of any constitutional law professor to not understand Marbury v Madison. The people understand the independence of the judiciary. So he thinks most Americans are smarter on the Constitution."

No, he called Obama stupid.

He asserted that a Constitutional law professor knows less about the Constitution than the average American.

Which is stupid.

And massively disrespectful.

Voting Republican, or sitting out elections because the Democrats "don't inpsire," carries all kinds of bad consequences. For example, crazy people get appointed to the federal bench.

For those who think "This will shut them up re. activist judges/disrespecting president/etc', no, no it won't.

Because it was DIFFERENT when they did it. They're protecting FREEDOMS from SOCIALISTS.

Honestly, all you have to do is go back to the Bush years and find the "OMG you can't disrespect the PRESIDENT he's the COMMANDER IN CHIEF" and now that the shoe is on the other foot, it's ... whatever the buzzwords are now.

I mean Republicans have crowed "Activist Judges" out of one side of their mouth, and applauded judges who come down on Liberal legislation from the other side.

Cognitive Dissonance knows no bounds these days.

Must be nice being you... Republicans have desperately tried to be part of my personal life, telling me who I can marry, telling my neurologist he can't prescribe drugs for my MS that the AMA and AAN both agree are effective treatments, and now their big push is to get rid of the ACA, through which I have health insurance in the high-risk pool. So, aside from getting in my love life, my doctors office, and now trying their best to bankrupt me, I can't really see how one would ever expect me to vote for the party of "small government" when all they really want is a government small enough to fit in my bedroom and doctors office.
