Britney Spear's Speculum: Funny, most Christians in the US would have you believing differently.

Yes they would and they would be wrong.

How many Christians are passed over for jobs? I know Christians who won't hire non-Christians?

How many Christians are passed over for lucrative contracts? I know Christians who steer work and contracts to other Christians and openly brag about it.

How many Christians are forced out of schools for being Christian? No I'm not talkng about zealots who create chaos in pubic schools with disruptive preaching and other antics. Yet, most private Christian schools will not allow non-Christians.

How many non-Christians want to change laws in an effort to prevent other non-Christians women from using birth control or having access to abortions? Christians are constantly attempting to force their religious beliefs on others.

Despite a separation of church and state how many other religions in the US get billions of federal dollars taken out of the pockets of tax payers? How many Mosques and Buddhist temples get federal funding?

The list goes on and on...

The American Christian persecution myth is nothing but an attempt to increase control of the nation by Christian interests.

Not being nasty, just poking fun at the self righteous. You either believe in a religion or you don't. "Christians" certainly make enough nasty remarks about those of us who don't share their enthusiasm for the imaginary.

So by your logic the white slave owners in the 1850s were persecuted because their black slaves insulted them?

Actually, after re-reading the article, they were behaving exactly like the cult that they were. People on the "outside" were responding as people have done for millenia in reponse to suspicious groups that meet in secret. Nowadays, you would be requested to "report anything suspicious", citizen.

1. secretive group. check
2. middle eastern roots. check
3. seeking apocalyptic end to world system. check

Today, these guys would be undergoing a wee bit of scrutiny.

So what would have happened if there were people carrying? A lot of dead actors, that's what. Someone in a church and here comes a mob of people come in with bats and 2x4's you'd better bet someone would feel threatened especially if they're with wife and family. It was a very stupid thing to do considering the climate and it's happened for real before.

2012-04-08 11:41:28 AM
That's actually a really striking way to get the point across. Take a congregation out of the fancy church and only give them tools for basic services... it's impressive, as in impressing on them how good they've got it here.

The church I grew up in (American Baptist, founded 1804 and still using the same building) is one of the few I've been to that I think would adapt easily to such circumstances. I'm not a devout follower anymore but their general attitude is the reason I haven't completely dismissed Christianity.

many who identify as Christians are just people who go to church on Sunday and that's it. A real Christian lives his beliefs 24/7. We know how good it is here, which is what the article said and was the point of the exercise at the service.

Problem: People have no interest in wasting their Sundays listening to someone else tell them what God wants.

Solution: Turn it into light theatre, a sort of "Christian Renny faire".

Now just get rid of all that crap about the dead guy nailed to a tree, serve liquor (oh, wait, they already do - So just up the dose), and you'll get to crow about the resurgence in "church" attendance!

SNL almost did a skit once about Jesus (John Belushi) serving hard time behind bars instead of being crucified. By the time Jesus got out of jail, nobody gave a futz about who or what he claimed to be.

I attended a weekend for teen at Columbia Bible College some years ago, that did something like this. We were place in small groups and were get as much of our group to a safe place after leaving the building. They had college kids dressed like soldiers that were grabbing all the people they could and putting them in "prison". It wasn't about the persecution of Christians in America. The point was about what Christians face in certain countries where they are imprisoned, beaten and killed. The school did change their name to Columbia International University so students visiting China or the middle east wouldn't have problems getting in with the school's name on their passport.

As far as these clowns in the article, I would say they were probably doing a check to see who would shoot somebody in a hoodie.

Revelations speaks of two churches. One is Christ Church the other is ran by Satan. Watch how someone acts to see which one they belong to. It does say that not all that call themselves Christian actually belong to Christ. What better way to destroy Christ work than to pose as Christian and do the opposite?
