In 1988, it took the Orioles 25 games to notch 2 wins.

You should have mentioned the Tigers' score against the Redsux.

10-0

IIRC, the Orioles had a strong start last season as well.

Obviously very early, but it's been pretty weird so far. Dodgers are 3-0, but... they've been playing the Padres. The Rays in Game 1 were like watching the Rays in Game 162 last year. That's a fun team. Mo blew a save for the Yankees in Game 1, and so did Valverde in Detroit, wasting a great start by Verlander.

Why? Because its the one time of the year the mets are over .500? I remember mets fans bragging last year then after I said they would be lucky to stay out of the cellar all the mets fans said I was crazy.......

I really want to know from mets fans where they improved since they lost their best player, its only to their advantage they are playing a team that is notoriously a slow starter.

Typical AL East start.

2012-04-08 03:53:02 AM
Reyes' one healthy year last year notwithstanding, Wright is a much safer bet to be a better player this year... Duda looks like he could be fairly good, and if Johan is anywhere near good it could be a decent year

Don't get me wrong, I think the top end is around 500 and behind at least Philly and Atlanta, but I don't believe the hype about miami and wash is a Strasburg injury from being bad again

Nothing strange about this. In MLB the best teams win about 60% of their games and the worst teams win about 40%. Eventually the planets align and the teams with the most money wind up on top.

Nonsense. Two good games are clearly representative of their performance for the next 160. I think they should be crowned World Champions immediately.

/no, not really

Gotta agree with this, but also have to admit that they are loaded everywhere but the bullpen even with Martinez on IR.

Regardless of how they finish, they are going to be an assload of fun to watch this year.

Well, since the Red Sox don't even have any decent setup men or a closer I'd think they won't be close to the top of the division for a while.

They've known this was coming for two years at least, since Pap started getting flaky. If this is the culmination of their grand designs... well, at least Boy Blunder and Francona are gone for setting this up. I mean, it's still 160 games to go, but since they haven't tried to seriously address the problems of the pitching staff in that time....

And the Indians as well, though they have at least put up a fight in both of their games thus far before blowing it in the late innings. So not everything is upside-down.

The O's tend not to trade to divisional foes mid season, the yanksox will need to wait til the end of the season..

It's still early in the season. Last year, the Red Sox had a horrible first month and then a terrific seas...oh, right.

I'm still surprised that Bard is being converted to a starter. I had always figured it was a sure thing to move him to being the closer. Did the Sox learn nothing from seeing the Yankees' problems with converting Joba?

I mean seriously, the offense is averaging a run a game. That should be enough.

For what it's worth, the Red Sox and Yankees have lost to two quality teams who are playing at home. It's baseball... things like this happen regularly.

Their offense is sick good. Their infield defense is terrible. I am also not sold on their rotation (outside of Verlander, who is incredible). I am not sold on Scherzer and Fister could be out for some time.

That said, they should easily win the AL Central and have a very legit shot at taking it all.

The Mariners won a game 8-7. Hopefully, it means good things (or, at least, watchable baseball) are ahead. Last year, they wouldn't have scored 8 runs in a week.

Obviously subby doesn't remember last year when the Orioles started the season 6-1. Don't worry things will go back to normal soon.

People forget that the Orioles play in the AL East which is part of the reason for their horrible record. If they were playing in the Central or West they would have hit .500 quite a few times (they had a 500 record against non AL East teams a couple of times in the recent past).

They moved the fences in.

Also, Lucas Duda has a year of experience. So does Ike Davis. And they still have Bay and Wright.

Oh yeah and a guy named Johan pitched a beauty on Opening Day. That's a guy that missed all of 2011.

R.A. Dickey is the only knuckler left in the league. He pitched a hell of a game yesterday.

Jon Niese just got a 5 year deal. We'll see how he performs over the year. He starts today.

Anything else you'd like to know?

Oh and they have a great young catcher by the name of Josh Thole who is starting out well this year going 4-7.

Just one more thing:

They don't have a basket-case closer. Francisco has pitched well and saved both opportunities this year.

Mets fan here. As loaded as the NL East is this year, I don't see any scenario that doesn't put them finishing last in the division.

I'm pretty excited about the Mets this year (relatively. I think they can surprise a lot of people on their way to 75-80 wins.) I like what I've seen out of Francisco.

But Francisco one threw a chair at some fans in the stands. I don't think we can say he's not a basket-case.

Did they magically cease being the mets though? At best johan brings 12-15 more wins and that is if he doesnt get injured, again.

Also the owners are still the same, personally I hope the owners never sell because it just guarantees horrible decisions by the club.

The Rays have scored 7 first inning runs in this series.
