Instead, I will be studying criminal law for the next 10 hours or so :(

Vancouver is in second in the West?

2012-04-07 12:31:02 PM
Today's scenarios

President's Trophy

NY Rangers (vs WSH) clinch with a win or OTL + Vancouver (vs EDM) loss or regulation loss + Vancouver regulation loss
Vancouver must win and Rangers must lose for Vancouver to take the best record

Eastern Conference

The following teams are locked into their positions:
#1- NY Rangers
#2- Boston
#4- Pittsburgh
#5- Philadelphia
#6- New Jersey

Florida (vs CAR) will clinch the Southeast Division and the #3 seed with a win or an OTL or a Washington loss

Ottawa (@ NJ) will clinch the #7 seed with a win or an OTL or a Washington loss

Washington must win to have any chance of moving out of the #8 seed.
A win + a Florida regulation loss will give WSH the Southeast Division title and the #3 seed (Florida would drop to the #8 seed in this scenario).
A win + an Ottawa regulation loss + a Florida win or OTL will give WSH the #7 seed and demote Ottawa to #8.
Florida can not be the #7 seed.

Western Conference
No teams are locked into their positions. Scenarios can be divided into 3 groups.

Battle for #1
Vancouver will clinch the #1 seed with a win or an OTL or a St. Louis (@ DAL) loss
St. Louis win + Vancouver regulation loss will give St. Louis the #1 seed.

#4, #5 and #6
Nashville (@ COL) will clinch the #4 seed with a win or an OTL or a Detroit loss
Detroit (@CHI) will clinch a minimum #5 seed with a win or OTL. They can only move to #4 with a win + Nashville regulation loss.
Chicago can only move up to #5 with a regulation win (on head-to-head tiebreak with DET). Going to OT will guarantee them the #6 spot.

The Pacific Division
Too many scenarios here so I'm just going to do a mini table:
Phoenix @ MIN, Los Angeles @ San Jose

PHX win + LA win = #3 seed PHX, #7 LA, #8 SJ
PHX win or OTL + SJ win = #3 PHX, #7 SJ, #8 LA
PHX OTL + LA shootout win = #3 PHX, #7 LA, #8 SJ
PHX OTL + LA regulation or OT win = #3 LA, #7 PHX, #8 SJ
PHX regulation loss + LA win = #3 LA, #7 PHX, #8 SJ
PHX regulation loss + SJ win = #3 SJ, #7 PHX, #8 LA

Well, the answer to #1 is no, since Buffalo is mathematically eliminated regardless of what happens with Florida

The answer to number 1 is No, Buffalo cannot make the playoffs. What do I win?

2012-04-07 12:34:08 PM
Wings lose to Chicago
Yotes pick up at least a point and win the Pacific
Wings vs Yotes in the first round
Problem Phoenix?

Pens-Flyers today. Let's not call a single penalty today, either. Also, let's clear the bench, have a goalie fight, and let the coaches spray each other with super-soakers.

I'm glad that game is on National TV. That being said, watch it be the most boring 60 minutes of hockey because neither team can move up, nor is willing to risk injury before the playoffs actually begin.

Since I couldn't get a greenlight for this:

St. Louis already eliminated from playoffs.

I'm guessing the game will be a giant anti-climactic letdown. Neither team wants to get players injured or suspended before the playoffs actually start. Expect a lot of "surprise" scratches.

There's no way that Crosby suits up today. At least, if I was coaching the Pens; I'd hold him out today.

Geno's going for #50 so he may play.

I want to see whinybiatch Miller try to take one last slash at Lucic before the playoffs, and then end up buried in his own net.

Yeah, Vancouver isn't second, I guess this was approved by the mod who just can't stand Vancouver. The same one who approved the thread about Keith's suspension.

I'm pretty sure if he tried that again he wouldn't escape suspension. I'm talking about Lucic. Tootoo hit a goalie and it wasn't nearly as bad as Lucic'shiat and he was suspended for it.

Desertgeek = awesome.

Trust me, Quebec. You're going about trying to get a team the wrong way. Those who make a ton of noise about it usually fail. Ask Jim Balsillie.

/As an aside, with how much Blackberry is failing; how glad is the NHL that they were able to keep that guy out?

Well, those two will face off in the 1st round so I think you'll see a lot of "softening up." Nothing to get suspended for, but enough to leave a few players carrying ice packs all night tonight.

Yup. Plus the NHL knows that is the series everyone is going to be watching next week, so someone needs to do something bordering on criminal to catch a suspension.
