The sad thing about this, is his current girlfriend is at least old enough. Not a great choice, but she's technically and adult. The other gal, from 1998, she was underage. Which is the issue. I do like that the Assembly is looking at closing the barn door now for relationships with students.

When I got my teaching degree--and that was actually a bit before this fella would have gotten his--we were always advised to KEEP THE HELLS OFF THE STUDENTS! ALWAYS! NEVER TOUCH THE STUDENT BOOTY! EVEN IF IT WERE CANDY LIKE. NEVER TOUCH THE STUDENT BOOTY!

Seriously. They're your students. You meet a few years later, at the Quicky-Mart, and kindle something, drive on. You meet on spring break and suddenly there's sparks, there you go.

BUT KEEP OFF THE STUDENT BODY WHILE THEY'RE YOUR STUDENTS.

It's leads to bad places. It leads to all sorts of difficulties. Just don't do it.

I do. In fact, off the clock, I barely register people under 23 unless they touch my shoulder.

What a man that age would see in a 18 year old who is emotionally immature, despite being physically mature yet pliant is understandable.

What a teacher, even a male one, would see in that is beyond me. There are so many barriers he would have had to clamber over to justify and find a rationale for crossing that boundary, it really beggars belief.

Not to mention that even if were legal, all the teachers I know are into women who are interesting conversationalists. There's not many vapid trophy wives in academia. What in god's name could an 18 year old bring to the table that a 25 or 30 year old couldn't trump except slightly nicer skin?

Finding him attractive?

The woman told police that in 1998, when she was a high school student, Hooker at the time was teaching at Davis High School, also in Modesto.

Hooker and the alleged victim first became friends, and then developed a romantic relationship, the news release says. Hooker sexually assaulted the girl in that time frame, police said.

While I find the guy creepy as hell, some how I doubt they found evidence of a sexual assault from 14 years ago. And is that even within the statute of limitations?

True. From an 18 year old's point of view a teacher makes money. Ha!

Unless you have your own TV show or book series, not much moolah in teachin'.

This is what scares the shiat out of me about our justice system. What the guy is doing now is legal, though obviously controversial, so in response to the public outcry the police find some other charge to go after him with.

This is why everyone should avoid the media... If some DA gets a bug up his ass about putting you in jail, he'll find a way to do it, or at least ruin your life trying to.

THIS

I'm curious as to what type of evidence they could dig up 14 years later. Unless the victim kept emails/text/ letters he wrote or photos what could they use?

I'm agreeing with the others that have a teaching background. I taught for awhile in high school. Why would you even want to talk to a teenager of that age (unless you were related) after school hours is beyond me.

I don't understand any teacher going after students. Heck at 33 I sometimes talking to a 18 year old is hard work. The barriers that you have to breakdown, how do you get in those situations? Really.

This is obvious, not really ironic

The only time you should be farking and hanging around an 18 year old is if you're 18 yourself (or thereabouts).

If you're older than that, don't spend time with them after you fark them.

This. Personally, I don't care that she was 18. If it's legal, have at it. But he was setting himself up for failure. She's gonna stop being impressed by the car and house sooner or later. And when she goes off to college in the fall and starts sucking dick in the dorms every Friday, their relationship is gonna end anyways. If he's just banging her, well then ok. But to move in with her? He had it bad, and it was gonna hit him like a sack of bricks when she leaves him for the 21 year old college lacrosse player next fall.

Exactly. I believe the recommendation my professor gave was "Limit yourself to a handshake. After they graduate." The margin of error for a teacher, especially a male teacher, and double especially a young, male teacher, is so small.

I've mentioned this in one or two prior threads, but the sub gig I currently have is because the previous teacher emailed a student to say "I'll wait until you're 18 to make my move." What demented, farktarded thoughts must go through your mind to send that email, I hope I never figure out.

I'll tell you what was going through his brain.

Love can be a wonderful thing, but this is not always true. Scientific studies have shown that love can act like a drug, and people in love can show signs similar to drug addiction. Love can lead to obsession and depression in some individuals, especially if they feel the love is not returned. Love has several stages, and physical and emotional changes take place in each phase. Love has also become big business, with providers like eHarmony and others performing and using research on love. Dr. Helen Fisher, who works at Rutgers University as an evolutionary scientist, has done research on the subject of the effects of love, using MRI scans and other tests to determine what physical changes take place in the brain during love. Dr. Fisher classifies love as an addiction, because the same chemical changes occur in the brain with love as they do with drug use. The first stages of love can produce a high, and this can result in certain brain areas acting unusual. Risk taking is increased, a feeling of euphoria takes over, and the lovers can think of little else except each other. All of these reactions are caused by the limbic system in the brain, which changes the neurotransmitter levels. This area is what helps govern behavior, preventing obsession and reckless behavior, and love has the opposite effect and can increase this activity instead.

Or you know, was too ashamed about what happened to come forward until his story hit the news and she wanted to help put him away and save other young girls from his creepiness. Of course your first reaction though is that she's a massive attention whore though.

Or both. They're not entirely mutually exclusive.

The real victims in this whole mess are Hooker's wife and kids.

It's obvious that the girl is going to find a younger guy who likes to do activities that are more her age, while this guy Is going to be out in the cold with no family and no career.

He should have banged her a few times after graduation to get it out of his system and kept it "their" secret.

both good questions. one suspects they wanted to find something to nail him on and did. the moral police are anything but.

I could go either way on believing this. Just because this guy is farking a student now does not mean he was farking one ten years ago. I'm just as inclined to believe that he has some student from a long time back who is attention whoring.

Unless they have an email to the effect of "blowing my load in your mouth was awesome" there's no way anything comes (heh) of it.

High school teaching is not "academia."

I don't know about that AB bill. Outlaw all texts? What about to TA's that are running errands at the office or to sports team member for, say, a bus pick-up location change? Etc. Not sure should outlaw all texts or emails. For email, HS students should be able to email assignments or ask questions via email. Police can always go back and get the texts and emails if there is any question. Maybe Kristen Olsen just trying to get re-elected or some such.
