quoinguy: Soooo...how many other states had this additional avenue of recourse? Is this a case of bringing Wisconsin back to a nationally-accepted status-quo?

If so, then good for Walker. Most laws that make a state different or more difficult to do business than surrounding states should be struck down.

Oh yeah! Race to the bottom! Detroit for everyone!

threadjackistan: MithrandirBooga: StanTheMan: "Women earn 77 cents for every dollar that men make. In Wisconsin, it's 75 cents, according to the Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health."

OMG, this debunked "77 cents" canard is still being quoted? Yes, women make less. Because they work less hours, and take jobs that pay less to spend more time being moms and wives. But if you adjust for those things, they make exactly the same as men. Women are much more likely to be pediatricians, GP's, and dermatologists than surgeons because the hours are better. But they pay less.

If women really worked for 77% of what men made, who in their right minds would hire men when there is that cheap labor out there?

But thank you for reminding me to donate to Walker's re-election campaign. Can't wait to see these farkhead public employees lose again.

About that:

http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2010/07/07/128359804/unemployment-rat e- men-vs-women (new window)

Guess they are willing to work for less money.

It's really very simple. Remember before the 70s, when the man worked and the women had pretty much no choice but to stay home and be a wife? Then after the 70s, when women could work if they wanted and many of them did. Remember how the median income suddenly stopped keeping up with inflation about that time? Women being willing to work for less than men isn't a good thing. It's a freaking bad thing. It's killing the economy. It probably doomed the country and put the idea in the wealthiest people's heads that they were overpaying for workers.

It was all women's lib this, burn your bra that until it came time to negotiate for salary. Then it was back to being a meek little mouse that would take 70% of the normal fee. Then male salaries had to drop to compete. They don't look like they're going down due to inflation, but the median household wage has been sliding ever since those women decided that they could take 70% of a man's salary for doing the same job. No one made them do it. They just dec ...

The clerk in Waukesha County will personally make sure it fails. Even if it means more pro-Walker votes in her county than anti-Walker votes in the rest of the state combined.

Kathy Niclaus was "asked" by the County Executive in Waukesha County to step down during the recall. The last straw may have been the recent primary elections, which she farked up six ways from Sunday.

Yeah, but after everything that's happened to elections in that state, I think my default position is that the WI Republicans will do *anything* to win: stuff ballot boxes, perjury, beatings, threats, intimidation...even murder doesn't seem beyond their capabilities. I hope to god i'm wrong about that...but to be honest, my impression of the WI GOP is that they will do ANYTHING to win. literally - anything.

I notice that a lot of people are commenting of the 77 cent matter and I recall this study being done for the labor department in 2009 on it so I will throw it in as well:

http://www.consad.com/content/reports/Gender%20Wage%20Gap%20Final%20R e port.pdf

Basically summed up below:

There are observable differences in the attributes of men and women that account for most of the wage gap. Statistical analysis that includes those variables has produced results that collectively account for between 65.1 and 76.4 percent of a raw gender wage gap of 20.4 percent, and thereby leave an adjusted gender wage gap that is between 4.8 and 7.1 percent.

Although additional research in this area is clearly needed, this study leads to the unambiguous conclusion that the differences in the compensation of men and women are the result of a multitude of factors and that the raw wage gap should not be used as the basis to justify corrective action. Indeed, there may be nothing to correct. The differences in raw wages may be almost entirely the result of the individual choices being made by both male and female workers.

Here's a condensed version of the Walker agenda:

Destroy public unions and collective bargaining rights. Check.

Destroy public education with massive cuts, to the tune of $1.6 billion. Check.

Destroy technical colleges with massive cuts. Check.

Destroy the University of Wisconsin and cut ANOTHER $300 million from UW. Check.

Destroy SeniorCare. Check.

Destroy BadgerCare so those poor people can fend for themselves. Check.

Destroy public schools' sex education. Check.

Give a gun to anyone who wants one, with no training. Check.

Destroy most existing environmental regulations, including a rollback of phosphorus restrictions. Check.

Remind women to get back in the kitchen. Check.

/Things haven't been this farked up since 1952. And not even then, really.

It's a valid concern, some of them now have an online database of the 900,000-plus people who signed the recall petition, and some were "outed" to their employers, namely reporters for the newspaper in Green Bay, and even the main AM radio squack box in Milwaukee. Others were threatened, intimidated, and had prperty destroyed.

What gives me hope though is that one of their primary weapons is to act like complete assholes but turn around and whine like little biatches when people call them on their behavior. They're bullies yes, but they're so child-like it's amazing

I find it interesting that Obama is running against the Republicans, and especially the Tea Party, as a bloc, not just against Mittens. Clinton never did that, and got criticized for it roundly by the left (not to mention having to fight a Republican Congress his whole second term).

As big a pack of idiots as the teabaggers are, and as hard as they work to make themselves unpopular, I can't see it doing Obama anything but good, and it might even lead to the House changing hands.

Whatta douche!

Looking at MurphyMurphy's lineup of the Koch triplets, I can't help but be amazed at the asymmetry of Scott's head. Most people have minor differences between the two halves of their faces (and you really only notice it if you hold up a mirror midline). Scotty's head looks like it's two different people straight-up. Maybe his noggin got smooshed by the forceps when his momma squirted him out.

I don't know if I made this clear earlier, but I thiink we need to cut the Milwaukee 'burbs (ie Waukesha, Ozaukee, and Washington Counties) loose. They've shown they're willing to take the rest of the state down when they don't get their own way; and their main "contributions" to the state have been a bunch of bigots, soccer moms, little brats trolling the Milwaukee ghetto for drugs, McMansions, speed traps, and strip malls. They don't like the liberals in Madison, the hicks up north, and the NI-BOOONNGGGS in Milwaukee? Fair enough, they can be their own state. They can build a capitol next to Office Depot. No one will miss them.

Cagey B: steveGswine: Governors legislate now?

Yep. It's a completely new process that was invented in Wisconsin last week. You see, the Governor takes the bill that's been sent to him by the Legislature, and if he wants to enact it, he "signs" it, thereby signifying his approval. If he does not wish it to become law, he may "veto" it, thereby preventing it from taking effect.

I realize that this is a radical departure from all known forms of government in this country, and that it challenges the traditional role of "dispassionate, uninvolved cosmic observer" that has been bestowed upon Governors, allowing them to be insulated from the consequences of all policy decisions ever. So it's understandable that this is a new concept to you.

Sent to him by whom exactly? And people wonder how someone could have the audacity to say Obama got our debt rating lowered.

I don't care on whose team anyone is, claiming that either Walker or Obama has legislated (lately) is equally incorrect.

Women being more educated. The economy transitioning away from blue-collar where they have a natural disadvantage, to white-collar where they don't. The fact that it is no longer a novel thing to have female bosses.

And most importantly, the fact that business is not a charity for men. You'll have a hard time finding a business owner that is happy to pay a man more for the same work.

Bottom line, if the gap moves at all due to this, it's likely to shrink due to the reduced litigation risk.

cmb53208: It's a valid concern, some of them now have an online database of the 900,000-plus people who signed the recall petition, and some were "outed" to their employers, namely reporters for the newspaper in Green Bay, and even the main AM radio squack box in Milwaukee. Others were threatened, intimidated, and had prperty destroyed.

It's the reason I didn't sign with my gf (who's losing about $225/mo because of this) because between the loon I know from high school who ran her FB friends through the list and my co-workers in an industry where it's fairly advantageous to be "conservative" it just wasn't worth the grief. I'm still surprised the Belling/Sykes/McKenna trioka were shocked they got the signatures.

ManRay: Ah. My step brother is going on about them all the time but it never seems to be anything concrete.

Well the Kochs did open a lobbyists office in Madison WI right after Walker took office. And they are trying to forcibly takeover the Cato Institute.

If I was a lawyer in Wisconsin I would be looking forward to my imminent retirement funded by the state's various idiots who are just making it too easy.

DirtyDeadGhostofEbenezerCooke: I would consider voting for any Democrat that legally changed their first and middle names to 'Lesser Evil', just as a reward for the honesty. Even President Lesser Evil Obama would get a vote. Otherwise, their bad is 'pretend we are 'progressives' while mucking up healthcare reform and extending tax cuts' bad. No thanks.

I place those in the "weak and feckless" category. Both were caused mainly by attempts to appease Republicans so they wouldn't have to fight for what they really want.
