Wadded Beef: GAT_00: But really, there is no GOP war on women and there's no evidence that they are waging one.

The GOP knows women can vote now, right?

Yes, but they know the wives of republican husbands will vote with their husbands, as instructed. Besides, if they even thought about voting against their husbands, then they might not be let out of the kitchen to vote at all next year.

Alright, fine. Since he's not going to back up his bullshiat, here's an article from that liberal rag Forbes that ran two days ago.

The real problem is pretty simple: we just have less money to spend than men do. Women are still making 77 cents to a man's dollar.

Where's your source?

An opinion piece on ForbesWoman that doesn't list a citation for that claim? That's your source?

By the way, a study done in 2010 showed that childless women under 30 living in cities make, on average, 8% more than men in similarly situated positions.

That lends at least a small bit of credence to the notion that the wage gap exists, in part, due to other non-discriminatory factors.

Considering Walker seems to be actively trying to dismantle over 100 years of progressive progress brought about by the advent of Unions and (some) social ethics, I find it amusing that people are demonizing his detractors as "Union Thugs".

No, it leads to more fat, greedy, self-important old white men pissing and moaning until their pet representatives pull some stunt like this. See how that works?

The Koch brothers would bone your sainted mother up the sh*tter and leave a quarter on the dresser. They create Koch brothers money.

Nothing else.

Time to re-evaluate that claim about your wife being just as competent, much less more, as the men she works with.

IMDWalrus: The_Six_Fingered_Man: An opinion piece on ForbesWoman that doesn't list a citation for that claim? That's your source?

Alright. You'd like some more?

The wage gap remained statistically unchanged in the last year. Women's earnings were 77.4 percent of men's in 2010, compared to 77.0 percent in 2009, according to Census statistics released September 13, 2011 based on the median earnings of all full-time, year-round workers. (Source: http://www.pay-equity.org/)

In the financial sector, women earn about 55 to 62 cents for every dollar made by men, while women who head major lobbying firms make about 57 cents to the dollar. (Source: http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/04/02/456335/women-cfos-pay-gap/ )

Internationally: A new report from the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) reveals that worldwide, women are paid 18% on average less than their male counterparts at work. (Source: http://www.ituc-csi.org/frozen-in-time-gender-pay-gap,10763.html)

I could keep going if you'd like, because there are 117,000,000 results on Google for "women pay gap 2012".

#1: Comparing all workers to all workers is futile. Compare similarly situated workers. Otherwise, you are engaging in an exercise in futility.

#2: ThinkProgress? You really think they'll say anything different? I didn't even bother with their link.

#3: Internationally? Really? This is the one you want to hang your hat on? It should be no surprise to you that women are paid less than men INTERNATIONALLY when there are countries where women aren't even permitted to HAVE A JOB.

In short, get better sources.

The golf example is pertinent because just two days ago Obama called for the Augusta National club to start admitting female members. Kettle meet black.

The_Six_Fingered_Man
Here's the slightly deflating caveat: this reverse gender gap, as it's known, applies only to unmarried, childless women under 30 who live in cities.

That's interesting though it applies to only that subset of the population... under 30, unmarried, no children, living in cities. Also, one would expect those with a college degree to, on average, earn more.

That lends at least a small bit of credence to the notion that the wage gap exists, in part, due to other non-discriminatory factors.

I wouldn't rule that out as part of the explanation though as hopefully we all know, numerous sources over the years suggest that discrimination is a major factor too. It's reasonable to demand citations from the person who claimed this gender gap in wages doesn't exist.

Tigger: coffee smells good: Peter von Nostrand: patent holder: Peter von Nostrand: StanTheMan: "Women earn 77 cents for every dollar that men make. In Wisconsin, it's 75 cents, according to the Wisconsin Alliance for Women's Health."

OMG, this debunked "77 cents" canard is still being quoted? Yes, women make less. Because they work less hours, and take jobs that pay less to spend more time being moms and wives. But if you adjust for those things, they make exactly the same as men. Women are much more likely to be pediatricians, GP's, and dermatologists than surgeons because the hours are better. But they pay less.

If women really worked for 77% of what men made, who in their right minds would hire men when there is that cheap labor out there?

But thank you for reminding me to donate to Walker's re-election campaign. Can't wait to see these farkhead public employees lose again.

You realize that women make less when doing the same jobs, right? Of course you don't but please go back to blaming public employees

Actually, equally educated and equally experienced woman (in identical positions) do make the same as men. This has been non-reported/under-reported by the old media. You might want to update your talking points because you look the fool by repeating them.

/but then I'm arguing with a moron, does that make me.........

Well, then I'll just take your word for it because... ummmmm, you called me a moron and I can't argue with that rock solid logic. Other than say my wife who makes less than men in her office despite having seniority and being more qualified. But you know better, so I guess I can't argue with that

The laws allowing recall set a minimum time in office. The recall petition was as early as the law would allow, and the Republican-controlled state government delayed the process as much as possible thereafter. There was no legal way he could have been recalled faster.

JBangworthy: Has anyone actually bothered to read the law? I realize that 99.99% or more evaluate the substance of a law by its title. The legislature knows this too, so they can write a law declaring the homeless be fed to bears as long as they title it "The Helping Poor People Not Be Poor Anymore" Act of 2012. I realize that Walker's the ultimate racist/mysoginist/neo-Nazi, but it's still possible this is just a poorly designed law, and repealling it won't have any effect at all.

Just out of curiousity, did you actually read the article? It clearly stated that this legislation REPEALED existing legislation that was passed in 2009.

What a load of bullshiat you're spouting. Your claim that there is no discriminatory basis for the gender wage gap is anything but a "widely reported fact". It's very much in dispute. There have been numerous articles published examining what factors create the wage gap including discrimination and yes, other possible factors. The 77% claim is in TFA. Try reading it. Want to refute it? Fine. Citation needed.

Between your pathetic refusal to back up your claim and your completely idiotic comment about Obama above, it's clear that there is absolutely zero value in engaging you further on this topic or any other. Shove off.

I know this is complicated, and I know you're retarded, but you may be able to survive this small leap. Ready?

The 2009 law was passed in order to make it less costly and less difficult for employees who have suffered pay discrimination - all employees, not just women - to seek legal redress with an employer. Pay discrimination occurs when an employer offers lower pay for the same job to different people based on gender, ethnicity, etc, regardless of merit or seniority inre hours worked. What Walker and the Republicans did was rescind this law so it is now significantly more expensive and difficult for someone to seek redress for such pay discrimination.

And you think this is OK because dermatologists don't make as much as heart surgeons? Really?

I must ask you: does being this stupid ever physically hurt? Like, headaches? That kind of thing?

If I understand the logic so far in this thread, this is bad news for white men. If a business can reduce its labor cost by hiring women, what's the point of keeping expensive, white men on the payroll since women provide equal results through their labor? This should be a boon for the employment of women and terrible for men.

Actually, he sort of did...

"As part of his campaign platform, Walker said he would create 250,000 jobs in his first term through a program that would include tax reforms such as rolling back the 2009 state tax increases on small businesses, capital gains, and income for top earners, and cutting state employee wages and benefits to help pay for the tax cuts."

"He opposes abortion in all circumstances, including in cases of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother... opposes state supported clinical services that provide birth control and testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases to teens under the age of 18 without parental consent... He supports the right of pharmacists to refuse to fill prescriptions for contraceptives on religious or moral grounds."
