Kuroshin: He was warned the pattern was full...

/yes, wrong plane
//wrong in more than one way...

Do you think that the responding fire fighters took a highway to the danger zone... danger zone.

Holy crap. It almost looks like it could be an 'aftermath' scene from Independence Day.

cig-mkr: Lived in VA Beach for 16 years under the flight path for Oceana, kept waiting for a jet to crash into Lynnhaven Mall. Jets were so low over the house you could see the pilots. Hope the crew is safe and no civilian casualties.

We lived under the landing pattern, plus close enough to hear the engine tests in the middle of the night. Got to see some good views of the air show planes on days we didn't go to the show though. Blue Angles flying in formation a few hundred feet over your yard? Hell yes!

I wonder if the police are ticketing all the bystanders going "Holy farking shiat!".

In case you didn't know, VA beach has strict anti cursing laws.

Some guy on CNN was just calling this a "Blue Angels Plane" is he just speculating since it is the same type or has that been confirmed?

9beers: I hope that jet didn't land on a black kid walking home from the store.

I'd be more worried if the kid got hit by the crew: which is worse, "black kid killed in plane crash" or "black kid hit in eye by flying seamen"?

I can't believe the news reporter on Wavy News (the black dude) asked the guy if he's ever dealt with anything like this before. I was hoping the guy would respond "yeah, every few weeks. Idiot."

2012-04-06 01:21:24 PM
Both pilots ejected, at hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Several civilians treated for smoke inhalation. i doubt they have gotten the fire enough under control to locate the bodies inside the apartments (it would be a miracle if there were none).

ImThinkin: Wellon Dowd: The pilot punched out while going down over a populated area?

That surprised me too. I do hope the pilot is ok but I also hope he didn't ditch an airplane over a city and let it just crash wherever (into apartments!?).

Those apartments looked pretty crappy. Maybe he figured he'd do us all a favor and take out a few minorities on his way down.

Sorta, the article said it was from VFA-106 which flies F-18Es and Fs. The Blue Angels fly F-18Cs and Ds. There's quite a bit of difference between them but the general layout is the same.

They've already updated the Accident List on Wiki.

My friend Pete is responsible for #4 on that list, last August. A Captain with the Green Knights, both he and his weapons officer survived, although they are still facing daily physical therapy for their injuries.

Hell yeah, could feel the awesome vibrations when they flew in from the carriers, also could hear the jet engine test at night. Miss the Blue Angels since I've moved. Lived by the Lowe's on Holland road.

Stop and think: Post contains a picture of an F-14 while calling it an F-16 "EAGLE". Don't you think it might be possible that it wasn't a mistake? Maybe the poster was trying to be FUNNY?

I hate it when you have to explain jokes.

Thanks the "Expert" on CNN was calling it a Blue Angels plane, I know nothing about military aircraft and I thought he was sensationalizing the story. I heard hie literally say Blue Angels plane crashed, but the online sources were just calling it a Navy Jet, he even went so far as to state what Blue Angels tail number it should have since it was a 2 seater.

Actually saw one of the Blue Angels crash in 1973 where I grew up in Lake Charles, La. It bounced, the pilot ejected and then it crashed. Was very surreal. My girlfriend and I went back a few nights later and picked up some small pieces that were missed when they cleaned up the crash site. They got lost somewhere over the years in moving, x-wives, etc....
