Same thing. All those brain dead people shuffling into the polling place to vote for Obama could be confused with a zombie attack.

There are those that really believe this. *shudder*

I get a least two mailers a week form the NRA saying this along with a donation request, yet they won't give me the time of day when I want to talk about CA gun laws and how to challenge them.

Not quite correct. He tried to push the AWB back in 2009, but that was quickly shot down by his own party (mosly blue dogs that were trying to be re-elected). Ever since that point he has done very little, however. He is smart enough to knows that it is a losing battle at this point in time and will likey do nothing until the election is over.

You serious? I don't think he gives a shiat about gun control one way or the other. He's pragmatic. He only wants to tackle things that matter and he's smart enough to realize that guns don't.

Yep:

" target="_blank">The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters (new window).

Then why did he propose bringing back the AWB?

AWB is not exactly radical, since we lived with it for many years. I got in exactly the same number of firefights during as I did before or after (0), so it made no difference for me.

My point is that he's not waiting to push some secret agenda.

Obama has actually relaxed gun laws by allowing them into federal parks. What a sneaky bastard!

It was pretty stupid and has been dubbed - quite accurately - the scary looking weapons ban. Hell, even one of the 2007 AWB Bill's sponsors didn't even know what the hell she was banning. (new window)

That's exactly why it wasn't particularly onerous. If you needed a scary looking weapon, you could get it or make do with a less scary looking one. Meanwhile bleeding-heart hand-wringers were satisfied and otherwise stayed out of normal peoples business.

I think the whole point of the ban was that you couldn't get it. And who cares if I want a barrel shroud or a pistol grip on the stock? Shouldn't be the job of the goverment, in any case.

Meanwhile bleeding-heart hand-wringers were satisfied and otherwise stayed out of normal peoples business.

You you are saying that bleeding-heart hand-wrings stayed out of normal people's buisness once they 'got' into other people's buisness? Not sure you point stands up very well here.

Most of us are a little concerned since it is more likely that he will do something which is deemed unpopular (which gun control currently is) in a lame duck period. Personally, I don't trust him much on the issue, but I belive that congress and the courts have enough power and pro-gun members to stop any big push toward down this road.

Back when Miller and Murkowski were running for Senate, Rachel Maddow and her producer when up to Alaska to interview some people holding an anti-Murkowski rally outside her office.

Rachel: So what's your beef with Murkowski?

Dumb People: She voted to confirm AG Holder.

Rachel: And that was wrong, why?

Dumb People: He and Obama want to take away our guns.

Rachel: And how are they doing that?

Dumb People: We just know.

Rachel: But have they done anything specific that would lead you to believe that?

Dumb People: It's on the internet. Just look there.

Now, at least HeadLever has something specific. But I think it's a far cry to say the AWB means the 2nd Amendment is in jeopardy.

My feeling at the time was that you could still manage to get around the law if you really had to have scary-gun-part B for your games. I don't remember the details, but IIRC, there some exception for imported guns from a certain time period (or sumethin) that made it easy to get fun boomsticks anyway. Some people have things tucked away in their closets that have been illegal since the NFA of 1934 (not me, of course).

I couldn't agree more about it not being the governments business, but freedom and democracy are two different things (just heard that on Fark). We've got democracy, so we have to deal with wrong-headed people, one way or another.

Why? The NRA is making absolute boatloads of cash of stoking people's irrational fears of Obama's non-existent plans.

Pisses me off because all it does is drive up the price of target ammo.

Just because I didn't respond to it doesn't mean I don't get it. But scare tactics to inflate value is pretty common. Sad and obvious, perhaps, but common.

Why would anyone want a gun for the zombie apocalypse? Maybe it'd be nice to have a sidearm if you were too injured to swing your katana, but seriously - guns make noise and use ammunition.

I'd want one just in case I got cornered with no way out. Better to eat a bullet than be eaten by zombies.

2012-04-06 01:53:46 PM
The reasons for the spike, last seen in 2009, include fears that a second Obama administration might restrict gun ownership and the popularity of TV shows devoted to doomsday preparation and killing zombies.

Why are you thwarting my attempts to make the snark? I really have no agenda here. I'm a gun owner and used to be a hunter (although I was a bow hunter cause I thought it was more sporting).

Try swinging a katana when you are swarmed by zombies. But the point is valid. You don't want to make too much noise. So using a shotgun/high powered AR is probably not a good idea. If I had to use a firearm, I would make it a .22 rifle with a good scope.

SO I know politics is not a attention getter here on feel good facebook world, but if you do belive in the Second Amendment and the right to own your guns. Then you better pay attention!!! Its only two Presidental candidates that stand behind the second amendment and that is Ron Paul & Rick Santorum. Gingrich is a real anti gunner and Romney not far behind. Lets not even talk about our current president, he is the biggest wolf in sheep clothing and the worst threat for any gun rights! They even want the United Nations to rule and control our gun right!!!! that means that you will have none!!! So if you want to keep or protect the right to own any fire wepons you have a very slim picking. Please make this a priority, it represent FREEDOM and its your only true guarntee that its not taken away from you. If you read this, I appriciate your time. Have a great weekend.

And did that become law? No. And has he brought it up again? No.

It won't hurt you to admit that Obama is a very pro gun President when it comes to the pieces of legislation he actually signed. Things like this are nothing more than fear mongering by gun lobbyists in order to separate people from their money over a boogey man that doesn't exist.
