Bullshiat. It's about selling dog food at human food prices. Meat slurry isn't about tastiness.

I wonder how much they pay the MRC to get those pink slime-loving posts on Newsbusters.

Ammonium hydroxide is a microbial agent. You want more people to die of food poisoning, feel free to ban it. Not everyone can afford good food, you know. If people are going to be eating shiat, at least make sure it's not poisonous.

Exactly. I'm completely fine with companies using pink slime to feed their dogs.

If they were selling it at human food prices, nobody would buy it. It's because it's cheaper that they can move it in the first place.

I don't give a crap about the "ammonium hydroxide" or, in the more common vernacular, ammonia and water... I do care that it's necessary to use and that this meat is 70%+ insoluble proteins. People aren't eating "shiat", they're eating filler. They might as well put shredded cardboard in the meat, at least that would increase the fiber content.

Wait, what? Are you suggesting that BPI donated to Obama and that is why Republicans like Steve King are coming out to support them?

Hrm... let's see: BPI's campaign donations

Of the more than $820,000 in combined state and federal contributions, only $28,400 - less than 3.5 percent - went to Democrats.^

Seems unlikely the partisanship has anything to do with Obama's major donors.

Everything is a partisan issue now. If the GOP found out Obama was using 2-ply they'd use it to paint him as an elitist and ask why he's using fancy two-ply when Americans are suffering. The Two-Ply Presidency, if you will.

Rapmaster2000: How did meat filler become a partisan issue?

When conservatives couldn't decide between actually supporting the idea of a free market (the kind where all parties have all the info they need to make a decision) and corporations duty (some would say "right") to make as much profit as they can any way that they can.

People choosing not to buy something once they find out what's in it is the free market at work in its purest form.
People boycotting corporations which make or do something they don't like is quite obviously KOMMUNIZMZ! and cannot be tolerated.

2012-04-06 02:45:28 PM
They got off cheap compared to Solyndra executives. Those guys had to donate hundreds of thousands to Obama. Got a good ROI for it though.

2012-04-06 02:45:31 PM
The stupidest part about this new "debate" is not whether or not pink slime is OK.

The stupidest part is that what happened was the market (schools, other institutions) decided to stop buying products containing pink slime because they didn't want people to have to consume it.

Now, there was a campaign in this country to inform people about what it is, how it is made, and to deter people from eating it. And people made a decision not to eat it.

I suppose you can call it information warfare if you want. The same thing happened to marijuana 100 years ago (which was mainly because Hearst realized hemp would compete with his paper industry) and more recently with vaccinations in this country. But really, isn't most of it just advertisement? I mean the Beef industry puts commercials up about eating beef, so more people will eat meat.

And now Republicans are up in arms because the free market system works?

Color me shocked.

Here comes the IPSDF (Internet Pink Slime Defense Force).

It's nasty, near-liquid meat that's mixed in with regular meat without informing the customer. I can't believe people actually defend the meat companies on this.

You know, sonny boy, there was a time in this great nation that we didn't have memes. We had to rely on old-fashioned cliches.

One of those cliches was learning that the Native Americans used the entire buffalo. Anywhere you went in America, everybody knew that one, single thing about the Indians -- they used the entire buffalo.

You can find allusions to this cliche in popular humor, such as The Simpsons and The Far Side.

The conclusion of the humor in question is that at one point, Americans were told it was a noble thing to consume an entire carcass, but now, when they think about it, they don't find it noble at all. They in fact think it might be a bit disgusting.
