Yeah Europe, a lot of Americans have the same reaction.

Sabine Muscat is astonished at Justice Antonin Scalia's argument that if the government can mandate insurance, it can also require people to eat broccoli. "Absurder Vergleich" reads the article's kicker, which in English translates to, "Absurd Comparison." In trying to defeat the bill, Muscat writes, Scalia is making a "strange analogy [to] vegetables."

^definitely a WTF moment there from Scalia.

I still think it's far worse that he started biatching about the part of the bill that never made it into the final draft.

Europe fails to realize that our "Supreme Court" is now packed with partisan hacks. One of them has never even asked a question in all the years he's been there.

2012-04-06 10:29:54 AM
the idea that health care coverage, largely considered a universal right in Europe, could be deemed an affront to liberty is baffling.

Tell me about it, Europe!

Scalia... obnoxious in any language.

Yes, it would be like the government being able to say that I have to join the army or give the IRS money. If the government can't regulate inaction then I can inactively not pay taxes right?

America's reaction to Europe's reaction: F*ck you! WE FOUGHT A WAR!

2012-04-06 10:39:02 AM
And yet, despite their "evil socialized medicine/death panels", they spend less than half of what America does on its patients' healthcare, and produces equal/better outcomes to boot.

Sure, they pay higher taxes and have more restrictive regulations in many areas, but they (on balance) enjoy higher wages, better benefits, more paid leave time and more worker-centric environments....and don't forget about the cleaner power grids, high grade public transportation and subsidized public services, such as wi-fi.

If not for the financial crisis, Europe would have left us in the dust five years ago. IMO, the only reason that they fell victim to the crisis too is because too many of their leaders were sold a bill of goods by American hedge fund managers (and their goons at Sachs)

Well, we have a constitution that's older than any of theirs, and a lot of our laws end up being reviewed because we actually think that scrap of paper means something. They can wipe their collective arses with theirs all they want. We'll go through the proper steps and we'll be ok.

Hey, shut up Europe! Just because you don't understand freedom and liberty doesn't mean that we're going to roll over for socialism! We kicked your asses in the Revolution - yeah, you too France - and if it wasn't for us at D-Day, you would all be speaking German right now. Well, I guess they already speak German in Germany, but that's not in Europe, it's in Russia somewhere which is probably where they learned socialism. In short, America, fark yeah!

I clogged a toilet in Germany once.

I simultaneously felt bad for doing it and pride at sticking it to the krauts.

People are still trying to claim the Civil War as some kind of personal heritage. What have you done lately, America? A handful of your former guerrilla fighters flew a plane into some buildings and you lost your damn minds? Big whoop.

The Magna Carta is only a part of the UK's loose collection of documents that make up their legal foundation. It is NOT a constitution nor do they consider it one

It is...simply put...the first restraint placed on the King...later to mean the government. Basically, it said, we the nobles are not your property. We aren't serfs you know.

It's funny that the people deciding healthcare laws already have lifetime healthcare paid for by the government

Either way I couldn't care less because there's nothing i can do about it and I'm healthy. The more people who die, the less people I have to deal with in traffic

It's part of the stubborn, self-destructive independence that makes America shoot itself in the foot over almost every issue.

Much of their plumbing is in the 1920's level of technology. So, when you say shiathole, you aren't far off.

Speaking of infrastructure - Even the worst section of the Autobahn, the Autostrada, the Boulevard Périphérique, etc. are 1000x better than anything we have in America.
