(Grantland)   There's 14 games tonight and we may know who the 16 teams to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs are by the end of the night. That's reason enough for a hockey thread, right? (Puck drop- 7pm EDT)   (grantland.com) divider line 306

Sabres will try to beat a hurting Flyers team with absolutely no defense (on the part of the Sabres). Let's see how that goes.

28 teams playing? I wonder how many shut-out winners and hat-trick scorers won't make the 3 stars list because Cindy Crysbaby got an assist?

Confusing but cool.

What's the scenario that leads to Washington getting into the playoffs so they can lose in round 1?

Bruins 1 - 0 Senators after 1, but shots are 17-7 for the Sens. I mean, you'd expected the level of D to take a dip with Bergeron, Boychuk, and Chara scratched, but 17 shots is a bit much. Oh well, at least Khudobin seems to be up to the Task.

Don't give up yet. I have a surprising small amount of faith in San Jose being able to not fark this up.

McClellan made it sound like Murray was out because they didn't want to change the lines that have been working out so well. That was yesterday though.

ESPN was saying he hadn't made it through a full practice yet and they saw no reason to risk him right before the playoffs.

I mean SJ wins tonight and they can take the next game off, letting LA in. It's cheap but it would work.

The Avs need SJ to lose both games and Dallas can only win one in regulation and lose the other while CO needs to win out. Too complicated for the Avs to make it, sadly.

Solid year, and the promise of Lando, Rhino, Matty Doooo(had a shiat year), Varly and Johnson is too good for them to get worse.

Oh yeah, Siemens is coming uo with Elliot and Barrie.

Future is bright in Denver!

Goal, Buffalo!

1-0 Sabres in the dying minutes of the 2nd period.

If Washington wins tonight and goes on to take the division could Buffalo catch Florida for the last spot?

Detroit on the power play after Zidlicky jammed his stick right into a dude's face.

/Chico Resch doing his "oh, I don't know..." stuff until the slowed down replay showed Zid blatantly hitting him was pretty funny

It's a bad strategy to lose Saturday too. Their 1st round opponent (barring the 'yotes don't lose) would be the Canucks. They need that 3rd or 7th seed.

2 SO wins for the Avs

would still put them behind San Jose

Buffalo currently holds the tiebreaker vs flordia but for them to even tie buffalo has to win tonight and saturday and florida has to lose both tonight and saturday.

HOLMER!

2012-04-05 08:40:46 PM
Damn, I step away to do some actual work and I get a green. What do you know?

Tonight's scenarios:

The Rangers (@PIT) clinch the President's Trophy with a win PLUS a Vancouver (@CGY) regulation loss.

Florida wins the Southeast with a win or OTL at Washington tonight.

Washington clinches a playoff spot with a win plus a Buffalo (@PHI) regulation loss.

Pittsburgh clinches the #4 seed with a win or a Flyers regulation loss

Philadelphia clinches a minimum #5 seed with a win or an OTL or a New Jersey (@DET) loss.

Ottawa (vs BOS) locks the #7 seed with a win or OTL or both Washington and Buffalo losing.

Vancouver can not lock up the #1 West seed tonight. If they win tonight, then they will want a St. Louis loss Friday (vs PHX) to lock it up.

Detroit clinches the #4 seed with a win plus a Nashville (vs DAL) regulation loss.

Nashville clinches a minimum #5 seed with a win or an OTL plus a Chicago (@MIN) loss.

A Dallas loss will lock Los Angeles and Phoenix into the playoffs.

A Dallas regulation loss and a Colorado loss (vs Columbus) locks San Jose in.

San Jose @ Los Angeles tonight. A win by either team will clinch a playoff spot for them. A SJ win in OT would get both teams in should the above 2 scenarios not happen.

kinda dismal playing

Hey man, if/when SJ gets knocked out I'll start rooting for Detroit this year. After all, if we don't get to knock them out of the playoffs, then nobody does.

Well, I think we're both going to be looking for new rooting interests after the first round.
