(Grantland)   There's 14 games tonight and we may know who the 16 teams to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs are by the end of the night. That's reason enough for a hockey thread, right? (Puck drop- 7pm EDT)   (grantland.com) divider line 306

Guidette Frankentits: netweavr: ESPN was saying he hadn't made it through a full practice yet and they saw no reason to risk him right before the playoffs.

I mean SJ wins tonight and they can take the next game off, letting LA in. It's cheap but it would work.

It's a bad strategy to lose Saturday too. Their 1st round opponent (barring the 'yotes don't lose) would be the Canucks. They need that 3rd or 7th seed.

I'd rather match up against Vancouver than St. Louis. SJ has a bad record against the Blues this year.

4-0 BC. Looks like everyone else here is playing for second.

First Jersey win in Detroit since 1996!

Another Roy record falls to Marty. Didn't hear which.

First playoff berth for Florida in 12 years. Hadn't noticed, lol.

I've noticed there's quite a contingent of pro players out of Ferris State...wonder why that is?

Ha, Calgary TV crew are wondering when someone else will toss their Flames jersey on the ice.

"The only noise here tonight is from Canucks fans. The Calgary players and fans just don't care anymore"

Goddamnitsogoddamnedfarkingmuch. I need new teams, this being a fan of the Sabres / Chargers / Lions / Timbers / Trailblazers combo is just not working out.

Then again, they did churn out Chris Kunitz.

SJ has a crappy record against nearly everyone, they also seem to forget how to play while on the road.

Why is Dallas still not winning?

They were very close one goal games however. Against St. Louis, it hasn't been close.

Guidette Frankentits:
pregerstheHobo: The Avs need SJ to lose both games and Dallas can only win one in regulation and lose the other while CO needs to win out in regulation or OT. Too complicated for the Avs to make it, sadly.

2 SO wins for the Avs

would still put them behind in a tie with San Jose (if SJ loses both games, like pregerstheHobo said)

FTFY.

"San Jose holds the head to head tiebreaker against the Avalanche, meaning that Colorado must win both games in regulation or overtime to defeat San Jose via the ROW tiebreaker" again, assuming SJ loses their last two games. Link (new window)

netweavr: SJ has a crappy record against nearly everyone, they also seem to forget how to play while on the road.

For the past 2 months I kept telling people that SJ will wake up and win the Pacific any day now. "They just have too much talent for their record, they'll snap out of it." Yet they just kept floundering, not terrible, but they should have pulled away from the kings/stars/yotes.

Is this the effect of losing guys like Setoguchi and Heatley? I know Heatley is the kind of guy that really drives his teammates.

Whoops, Nashville scores, 1-0 for them with around 15:00 left in the third.

Same as the last 7 years --- 18 holes of golf.

Dallas is out.

2012-04-05 10:33:07 PM
And once again, it's too little, too late for Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier's Sabres. Yet, they will be back again next season to lead this team to yet another early exit. These guys can't get the job done and the Sabres won't go anywhere without a lot more talent.

Time to lose the dead weight, Sabres, and move forward with a different program.

This game is weird, I just want to get it done without incident. iginla has already tried to fight Kesler. These are some frustrated Flames players with nothing to play for.

As long as we win and they don't try and injure anyone I'm happy. It's kind of a shame the Flames have collapsed, we had a fun rivalry.

Yeah, that's gonna be all kinds of awkward when Iginla gets traded to the Canucks in the offseason.

OK, so to break into the top 5 picks Toronto has to lose to Montreal and the Isles and the Wild have to win.

So Toronto will beat the tar out of the Habs 6-0 while Minny and NY curl up and die.

There's always trading up....

Sigh.

Akim Aliu with his first NHL point in his first NHL game.

Born in Nigeria, raised in Russia, started hockey at the late age of 12.

Drafted by the Thrashers, traded to the Blackhawks, finally plays his first pro game for the Flames.

Great story. Good for you, kid.

If the Wings lose to the Blackhawks in regulation, they would drop to the 6th seed. That's fine with me if the Kinds hold the 3 seed, not so good if the Sharks take it.
