Don't worry, submitter. Manson will never be released. For starters, he's made it abundantly clear that he will return to his life of crime if ever release. Then there's the fact that he doesn't really want to be released from prison. He's said that more than once.

He won't leave prison until he dies.

Plus there's the way he babbles incoherently at all his parole hearings.

I'm just waiting for all the folks who bleat about criminal law around here to come in and say how he's served his debt to society and looks like a broken man and so on.

If i believed in hell, I'd tell him to burn in it.

That's because you're uncreative and myopic.

On one hand, you can't choose to stay in jail just by saying "I choose to stay in jail."

On the other hand, tell a judge something like "I can't wait to get out of here. I've always wanted to tie a baby to a goat so I could rape both of them at the same time before I take my (weapon) to (politician)'s house and cause some serious damage." and you'll stay.

Unless, of course, you commit another crime while in the clink, in which case you get extra innings.

In Manson's case, he;s serving life upon life upon life, so parole is the only way. He knows what to say to get denied.

Doubtful. I imagine they keep him away from the rest of the inmates. But, as I said - he's serving so many life sentences that parole is his only way out now. And I don't think there's a chance of it - either they will flat-out deny him because he's CHARLES FARKING MANSON, or he'll make damn sure they do by essentially being Charles Farking Manson.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he'd find a way to commit a crime in order to stay in prison. Manson is uber-manipulative.

He's currently incarcerated in California State Prison, Cocoran, but he's not in general population.

He's in what's called "Security Housing Units", which Wikipedia describes as follows:

Security Housing Units, "the most secure area[s] within a Level IV prison designed to provide maximum coverage." Among these units is the Protective Housing Unit which holds up to 47 prisoners who require "extraordinary protection from other prisoners." The Protective Housing Unit has been described as "strikingly calm" because inmates "don't want to be moved somewhere less guarded." One violent incident occurred in March 1999 when three inmates attacked inmate Juan Corona, inflicting minor injuries, and smashed Charles Manson's guitar. Three other Protective Housing Unit inmates suffered minor injuries.

Still that doesn't stop him from being manipulative and using outside sources to get what he wants. In 2009 he got caught with a cell phone. He contacted people in California, New Jersey, Florida and British Columbia, but it's unknown whether these calls were for criminal purposes. He also got caught with a homemade weapon in his cell this past October. He's considered a problem prisoner. Being in secure housing unit also lessens escape attempts by either Manson directly, or his followers on the outside.

You know, we should just give problem prisoners 24 hour uninterrupted internet access and all the cheetoes, coffee, and jergins they ask for.

Years ago there were a group of teens on a talk show that were Manson followers, the oldest being around 16. And these kids weren't even born when Manson and his followers committed their atrocities. They looked up to Manson as though he was their personal god.

The odd thing is - he didn't kill anyone. It's not even like a mob boss where he ordered an underling to kill, on the implicit thread that the underling would be killed if s/he disobeyed. I think he just acts crazy in prison to ease the boredom.

Manson may as well stay in prison. He'll be dead within 24 hours of hitting the street, and probably not very pleasantly, I'd think. Not that anyone would care, but it's not like he's got anyone waiting to take care of him out in the world. He's an old man, probably not in the best of health, and if my tax dollars have to take care of him, I'd just as soon it was in prison as in a nursing home.

Considering he once raped a boy in juvenile while he stood behind him with a knife at the kid's throat, I would say Charles Manson doesn't need to carve anymore swastikas in his forehead. He's not getting out ever again.

Brilliant idea. Let's put murderers and trouble makers in charge of the DEFENSE of our country and let's give them access to machine guns. No problems could POSSIBLY arise.
