kevinboehm: domari: Happy Easter and Happy Passover to all of those who believe. Happy spring and just plain happy days to everyone.

I woke up this morning and instead of finding candy and goodies from the Easter bunny, I found one of our new cats having kittens. She started around 8am and by noon she had 7 kittens. I hope she's done now. All the babies look good so far, one is a little weaker, but that's normal in a large litter like this. I'll have to keep my eye on it and make sure it gets equal time at the milk bar.

Kitten season is in full swing, been getting calls to take in entire litters already. Someone called today and said they found a starving kitten on their back porch. I'll be up to the rafters in kittens sooner than expected. Going to start bringing some to Petco on weekends to try to get them more exposure and new homes.

Hope all of you are doing well. Sorry to hear of some of the losses.
I haven't been on Fark for a while, I'll catch up some time. I see some new names. I was looking for Alien, hope she's ok.

Here's Lacey before she had her kittens. We'll get some photos of the mewbies when she's done and cleaned up her mess.

Do you take them out even if they're not ready to be adopted? I could see it just to get them used to people, although I could see a lot of little kids being disappointed.

I don't like taking the young kittens out in public when they're young and not ready to be adopted yet. Not only is it stressful, I don't like a bunch of people touching them and possibly contaminating them with whatever diseases their cats might have.

Usually when I go to adoption events I bring the older kittens and the adult cats who need homes desperately. Everyone thinks kittens are cute, so they get adopted quickly. But the older cats stay here for months. I like people to see them and realize they have wonderful personalities to help their chances of getting adopted.

See the voties are creeping up in spite of earlier troll-like critters.
Spkg of Easter, this from the StrangeCosmos sending just arove:
ALL I NEED TO LEARN ABOUT LIFE I LEARNED FROM THE EASTER BUNNY!
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Walk softly and carry a big carrot.
Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
There's no such thing as too much candy.
All work and no play can make you a basket case.
A cute little tail attracts a lot of attention.
Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
Some body parts should be floppy.
Keep you paws off other people's jellybeans.
Good things come in small-sugarcoated packages.
The grass is greener in someone else's basket.
An Easter bonnet can tame even the wildest hare.
To show your true colors you have to come out of the shell.
The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.

Birthday lad q_j fetched this a while ago. Brats & hush puppies might not be that bad together, with due precautions.... Turned out to be goetta that was curry-sprinkled for lunch. GoodSearch or Gurgle, it's a pork & steel-cut oats concoction somewhat singular to Cincinnati. Don't know anywhere else it's offered;
can be bought in groceries here.

heh If I were in the market I would want one that already understands what the box is for. Yeah, you might not get the laughs from the "I meant to do that" moments you get with a kitten, but I really think an older cat would be more my speed anyway.

Oh, very much so. Kittens have the "D'awwwww, lookit what he's doing" thing going on, but older cats are more mellow, have established personalities, know how to use the litter box, and often tend to be grateful, if that makes any sense. You're giving them a second chance at a home and a good life, and I really think that they understand and appreciate that. I'd also adopt more kitties from our local center, especially the older ones, but we're in a small home as it is, and it's not even ours. That wouldn't be fair or polite. I know that Sassy and Sonny would be totally cool with it (they don't mind Bluecheez, Morris was a curiosity, and the black kitty that hangs around is intereseting), but we'll hafta wait until we have OUR OWN home to do that.

Heeee, the hubby admits that he's a cat person, and could easily see us having three, and possibly four, but no more than that. You get into the "Crazy Cat Person" territory there, and you don't have the time and resources to give all of them the attention and love that they deserve.

Ah well, time to get another cup of tea and enjoy the lovely spring day out here. Current weather conditions are 66 degrees and sunny, with a 5mph breeze coming right off of the Delta. ...Though it's expected to start raining again later this week. *Sigh.* I've gotten a slow-cooker of my Ground Beef Soup simmering (recipe in profile), did the dishes, and once I get some laundry started, it's time to get some hardcore lounging done. Whoooo!

yobbery: maynerdkitty: My neighbors mare had her foal this evening at about 9pm. It is a colt, paint, like his mom and dad. He was up and walking in 15 minutes. The mare took him away to the far side of the paddock and the little one fell right into the pond! The neighbor had to dive in and rescue it, dry it off, and then he put mama mare and baby in the corral for the night.

I've always loved paints. When I can get my own place in the country, I would like to get one :)

tooeasy: my poor, beloved cat Thomas died on Friday. Miss and love you buddy

It,s always very difficult when you lose a buddy.. with the difference in lifespans, you know it's going to happen, but you are never ready for it, and it always hurts. I have lost many.. I try to think of the happiness we have enjoyed, and how we have enriched each other's lives.. each buddy is unique in their own way.. my theory is to mourn my loss, remember the enjoyment, and at some point visit the shelters and let a new buddy find me and gain a forever home.. and I have my buddy album to look through, to treasure those who were here and are now gone.
I am sorry for your loss.. all Caturdayers mourn with you...

I already saw two older kittens at the Richmond SPCA on Friday. I'm doing a weekly shift in their kitten nursery. Hopefully that'll ease my guilt once all the foster emails really start coming in. My fuzzy little sweetheart despised my foster last year. She'd bang on the bathroom door (I have no idea how she manages to knock on doors), then go sit in the hall, radiating hate.

What color did Lacey's kittens turn out since she's white with two shades of tabby?

//yeah, I know you're not 40....it's a joke!

Love it! I'm using that on Mr. p_v on Tuesday - he will be 40!

Just remember, the first thing you do in the morning is roll over, wake him up, and say, "Wow. I never thought I'd wake up with a 40 year old man in my bed," and promptly leave the room.
