This actually made more sense than the headline.

Yeah, I bet Rodger Goodell would have liked this a little earlier.

/Williams should never coach again
//his name stricken from all writings
///his name never uttered again
////so let it be written, so let it be done.

Should I get out a pad of paper and diagram that sentence, or can I just insult subby for making it completely unintelligible?

Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins went on Twitter to bash Pamphilon for making the recording public.

"Sean pamphilon is a coward and should be ashamed for taking advantage of Steve Gleason! How much did u get paid for that audio?"

what a mouthbreathing moron

OK, the headline translated:

Instead of a grown son getting to know his deceased dad, he'll hear the rantings of a defensive coordinator urging his players to injure the other team.

In other words, Gleason's son will always associate memories of his dad with Bountygate.

Did he at least cut the documentary together before releasing this speech? That would've been classy.

It was a "did he at least cut the documentary first?" joke, not a comment on releasing the speech.

That's the worst headline.

2012-04-05 05:17:26 PM
I find it hysterical how many current and former NFL players have come out against Goodell's suspensions. More than anything I think it shows how football is a sport played by thugs, not gentlemen. It's one thing to tackle somebody as hard as you can within the confines of the game. It's quite another to intentionally deliver a blow that could have lasting effects on another man's career and lifelong health. This kind of attitude spills over into college and high school play, which is incredibly damaging not only to the players but to the sport in general.

The Saints specifically going after Alex Smith just proves my assertion that he is a top 10 NFL quarterback.

2012-04-05 06:31:16 PM
Nice that the players would demonize the whistleblower instead of either keeping quiet or stating that a bounty system is wrong. Maybe the NFL should now penalize any player coming out against the guy who made the recording.

The footage was originally for a private documentary for the son of Steve Gleason, a former Saints' player who's dying of ALS. It was so that his son would know some things about his father later in life.

Instead, the filmmaker in question released the footage because he had a guilty conscience about just how far the Saints were taking the bounties during the game. The Saints are claiming that the footage was never supposed to be released publicly, and that's why Williams was so candid about talking about which players were to be targeted for injury. Even the players talking about how "normal" a bounty system is around the league are saying that specifically targeting players with known injuries is way, way over the line.

So, again, the Saints are mad because they got found out, not because they were innocent.

Personally, I think the filmmaker morally did the right thing. No snark. I don't think the son would've wanted to know this kind of crap about dear old dad anyways.

They're saying the ACL comment was too far, Woodson and a couple others. The other Hasselbeck had a big blowup on Cowherd's show (Gottlieb was the host) about his saying that "never, ever was I on a team where a coach didn't talk about injuries of an opposing player."

Headline reads like an excerpt from Palin's resignation speech.

2012-04-05 10:54:57 PM
"If this story hadn't broken and been made public, I would not have shared this it. I would not have compromised my personal relationships and risked damaging Steve Gleason's relationship with the Saints. I would have crafted these words and sentiments for another forum, perhaps years down the road.

"If it weren't for the fact I feel deeply that parents of children playing football MUST pay attention to the influence of men who will sacrifice their kids for W's, I would not have written this.

"Some will call me releasing this audio for fame or money grab. True haters will call it exploitation.

"People of character and conscience call it was it is: tru."

I like what this guy did, but he sounds like a total dickhole.

2012-04-05 10:58:21 PM
To be fair, players are split on whether referring to head injuries happened - some say yes, some say they only talked about ribs, hamstrings, chest, etc. Golic emphasized "don't take out the knees, don't aim for the knees. The ACL thing was terrible, I'm not a fan of that."

Some of them have been saying from day 1 that this is way over the line. They admit bounties exist, but not for intentionally injuring people.

Williams is a piece of shiat, and this is a huge blotch on the Saints. I wouldn't blame Brees if he's pissed off now.

Some have said they had those too while others will only go so far as to say "big hits," and Drew's been pissed off. GW being a idiot douchebag is just another thing on the pile at this point for him. While all this has been going on, Mickey Loomis has been cutting some big deals. It's gone unnoticed, and with good reason, but you'll all find out very soon, lol. Drew's the last and biggest piece. Don't see why he couldn't have been the first and biggest piece, but hey. Nobody's perfect.
