RIP man, you helped change the world and made it better.

I liked this from the article: He remained a fan of heavy metal rock - and of Cuban Montecristo cigars and single malt Scotch - well into his 70s. He kept a drum set in his office.

Thank you for your innovation, good man.

Never had one, but always wanted one. (Wanted a Mesa Boogie MIII more, though.)

Thanks for the memories (and the tinnitus), Jim!

I've owned many of his products over the years.

I am saddened beyond description.

Well, 88 is a good run. There were many imitators, but only a Marshall sounds like a Marshall.

When I purchased my JCM800 full stack back in the day I knew I made the right choice when the police came and said the noise complaints were coming from four blocks over.

Fark needs a "this" button. It would save a lot of time.

A friend asked if I had a Marshall amp I could crank in his honor - just an old JCM preamp, and cranking your headphones seems not quite the fitting tribute.

I've also owned many of his products over the years.. Thanks so much Jim. RIP.

Jimi Hendrix and The Who shall be blasting at some point in the studio today.

Just need to figure out when they were using Hiwatt and listen to the other stuff.

I like my amplifiers like I like my women--German and oppressive.

2012-04-05 11:09:00 AM
My first amp, and my only Marshall, was a little MG10 practice amp I bought off of a friend with my first electric guitar. I loved that thing. Joined a band in high school and met my best friends that I still play music with to this day in part because of that little thing.

Since I don't have a Marshall at the moment, I'm going to have to cue up a bunch of Black Label and G'n'R.

Reins of steel, and it's alright
Cities on flame, with rock and roll
Marshal will buoy, but Fender control

As much as I loved Marshall amplifiers, I get the sound I really like out of Mesa amplifiers and at a lower volume.

RIP Jim, you truly made the Sound of Rock.

Over 15years ago, I bought my half stack but I couldn't afford a Marshall amp at the time so I went with the Ampeg.

I've never seen anyone else with the Ampeg setup I have, and there's a reason for that... it's not as good as a Marshall.

What, a big line of empty boxes while the real amp sits back stage? That's "rock and roll", not rock and roll. Subtle difference.

On behalf of bass players everywhere, I say RIP, Mr. Marshall.

While I never owned any your products myself, I have been in bands with guitarists who did, and was twice forced to upgrade MY rig in an attempt to get myself on level ground with those loud farkers. I largely have you and the Zildjian family to thank for the tinnitus that's a little worse in my right ear than my left. But I say that with love, and wouldn't change a thing.

2012-04-05 11:39:46 AM
I'll fire up the Marshall stack and plug in the strat and play a little Red House in his honor.

/my neighbors hate it when I do this
