You take a good look at their life and you realize this is all they have. If you take it away, then they're just middle-aged women, likely with no money and no career, who have no one to pour all their dreams and aspirations into.

At least, my ex-sister-in-law fit that definition. Every moment she was off at a beauty contest with her daughter (who, at age 6, had an impressive number of trophies) was a moment she wasn't just an overweight, undereducated housewife stuck in a trailer out in rural SC. I wouldn't have dared try to pummel her, or even talk her out of it. What would she have left to live for?

"Shortly after the incident, Bartman released a statement, saying he was "truly sorry." He added, "I had my eyes glued on the approaching ball the entire time and was so caught up in the moment that I did not even see Moisés Alou much less that he may have had a play."[10] Trying to maintain a low profile, Bartman declined interviews, endorsement deals, and requests for public appearances, and his family changed their phone number to avoid harassing phone calls.[11] He requested that any gifts sent to him by Florida Marlins fans be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.[12] In July 2008, Bartman was offered $25,000 to autograph a picture of himself at National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois, but he refused the offer.[13] He declined to appear as a VIP at Wrigley Field. In 2011, 8 years after the incident, he declined to appear in an ESPN documentary, and he declined a six figure offer to appear in a Super Bowl commercial.[14]"

That poor guy just wants to forget this happened.

Do you have some kind of relevant release of arrest data for prostitutes that show the a sizable percentage of them to have been child pageant contestants? Or are you simply saying that any woman/girl behaving in a manner you don't approve of is being a whore?

Just curious.

I think there's something fundamentally wrong with dressing up 3-year-olds like tramps and parading them on a stage in order to judge them based on their looks.

I know a grandparent who has actually been on the show. Her granddaughter has even won several competitions. She tells me they only feature the tantrums, and the well-adjusted, happy kids (like her granddaughter, of course) who actually enjoy competing are pretty much kept off camera.

As a Braves fan for more than 30yrs, I would take issue with this headline...if it weren't so farking true. And it pretty much applies to all the teams in Atlanta, who despite winning a lotta regular season games just can't seem to get it done when it really counts.

Go Falcons....!

How bout she take the cash she's not spending on contests (those things are $$$$$$) and spend it on tuition? Then she could be educated. She could, I don't know, get a job with that new education and use the extra salary to move into better housing. She could volunteer to help the homeless or the elderly. Or if all that is too overwhelming for her, she could take up a hobby that doesn't involve tarting up her child and parading her in front of strangers to be judged like the livestock at the county fair.

You know, improve herself.

I gave up trying to figure this out a long time ago after I saw how popular Jon and Kate were. Reality television was a good concept at first, but it has been taken way over the top. I'm sick of seeing people with mental disabilities that ingest weird shiat, the weird midget couple with the normal sized kids, the people with too many damn kids, the kids parading around like little tramps; sick of all of it. I don't watch television anymore. No wonder.

2012-04-05 07:07:57 PM
you think there are issues with child actors when they grow up? Wait until this largely unchecked and unregulated reality TV/beauty pageant wave of kids become teenagers/adults. They're going to be seriously messed up. And most of them don't even make any money for their exploitation.

2012-04-05 07:13:50 PM

ParagonComplex: I gave up trying to figure this out a long time ago after I saw how popular Jon and Kate were.

And those two are total scum. Not a cent was paid to, much less put away in a protected trust account of any sort (the states that have this only expect 15% of the salary to be put away that way, but at least it's something), for those kids. Their entire lives, they were exploited so mom and dad could get rich. I saw an article where the kids can't even go to normal school because they get made fun of so much. Turns out it sucks to be-- I guess the older ones are like 10 now -- all over DVDs and the Internet where kids can watch you cry, puke, poop, etc as a child,

The PA Attorney General is actually investigating that show and child labor entertainment laws in that state are being changed as a result of it.
