SNL is a springboard and comedic development tool, not a destination. It doesn't pay very well, subby. I make more than some of those cast members. Hell, Will farking Ferrell made $350k during the 2001-2002 season.

2012-04-05 10:07:54 AM
It's time for Wiig and Sudeikis to leave.

2012-04-05 10:12:13 AM
Chevy Chase had a pretty successful movie career, comparatively. Not like David Spade. I don't think I can think of one good movie he was in that didn't involve Chris Farley.

I'll never understand Wiig's popularity. She's one of the few cast members that tries to use the old and busted "recurring character with catchphrase" angle, and it's grating. She has no idea how to be in a skit without trying to take it over.

Samberg's not always great in skits, but the digital shorts will be missed. Sudeikis is probably the biggest departure.

chimp_ninja: Sudeikis is probably the biggest departure.

One of the most versatile on the cast, so yeah, that's gonna sting for awhile.

Wiig needed to go after her first episode.

Sudeikis better be on call when the new season starts. We need his Romney for a few more months. They'll have to have him on retainer like Fey.

And yet she was terrific in both Bridesmaids and Friends With Kids. She's fantastically talented and sometimes Lorne lets her stray too far off the funny reservation. It's time for her to go. Her career will be better than Chevy's career.

Samberg and Sudeikis... I don't know. The biggest shock to me is that Hader is staying. I know he has a side gig as a writer on South Park, but come on. It feels like he's been there forever. I'm not sure I like that he's in every skit.

And Spade almost ruined those too.

He's good but he doesn't have the versatility of some of the other cast members. I like Stefon not just because it's farking hilarious, but because it's his most unique characterization.

Spade's movie career not so much, but he's been in several successful sitcoms. Salary + syndication residuals means he's set for life.

Diogenes: [Hader]'s good but he doesn't have the versatility of some of the other cast members. I like Stefon not just because it's farking hilarious, but because it's his most unique characterization.

I'll throw in a vote for the journalist who's a little too excited about the details of murder cases. He also does a bunch of strong impersonations like Vincent Price, James Carville, Alan Alda, etc.

On the topic of impersonations: Sadly, the departure of Samberg means no more segments of "In the Cage", but it would be tough to follow the one where Nicholas Cage did a cameo.

Didn't one of them already write and star in a movie that made almost three hundred million dollars?

Wiig is talented as a comedienne, but I think most of the characters they write for her are just awful. She's much more palatable in the movies mentioned above. I can't think of a character of hers that I'll miss.

Samberg is pretty much the same: his pre-recorded shorts are fantastic, but he doesn't bring a whole lot to the live performance (his Nicholas Cage excepted).

Sudeikis seems to be very versatile as a performer, both as a straight man and a comedian, so he'll probably be missed the most.

FishyFred: The biggest shock to me is that Hader is staying.

Seriously. Between South Park and the Judd Apatow movies, the guy doesn't need to be in anything. Although, I would certainly miss Stefon and his James Carville.

Agree that Sudeikis will be the biggest loss. I hope they give Taran Killam more stuff to do. I think he has great potential.

I think Wiig will probably do a couple of mediocre rom-com movies, and then probably get a sitcom. Kinda like Amy Poehler.

Except she has already starred in Bridesmaids and showed she's a terrific actress.

Oh, I agree completely. I loved Bridesmaids, and she was awesome. I just have a feeling the vehicles offered to her in the future will be somewhat disappointing.

She was the single worst part of Bridesmaids. It was a more subdued version of her one-upper character. Annoying as f*ck. I wanted her to get tazed by the cop.

I like Wiig. Samberg strikes me as someone like Will Ferrell who I won't enjoy in doses longer than 5 minutes. Sudeikis I'd never liked until I saw him on 30 Rock and Horrible Bosses. Dude's great.

2012-04-05 01:10:26 PM

The English Major: It was a more subdued version of her one-upper character.

LOL. That didn't occur to me but you're spot on. Funny thing, it's the only recurring SNL character of hers I actually like. Target lady makes me want to peel off my skin with a rusty knife.

Yea even though everyone seemed to talk about how the success of Bridesmaids was going to change face of comedy movies, I could easily see Wiig's movie career being a lot of roles as the girlfriend or the funny supporting character, especially if whatever follow-up screenplay I imagine she is working on isn't awesome.

I also have to say I really did like her in Paul as well. She brought much heart to the movie and kept it from being a total stoner flick with aliens.

She was the most believable depressed person I've seen on film while simultaneously not making me want to commit suicide and/or never watch the film again.

Hey is this Chevy Chase thread about Chevy Chase? I've seen his CHevy name in the news this Chase week I wondered if Community Chevy he was the one and Chase same actor you guys seem only to have Community ever heard of.

She and Alan Tudyk totally stole every scene they were in in Knocked Up.

Wiig and Sudeikis already have movie careers. Samberg, despite The Chronic-les of Narnia and DIAB, not so much.

Anyone that's been paying attention this past season will notice that Wiig has been in less skits than ever, and that they're grooming this chick:

I'll be happy to see Wiig go. She is talented in her films but most of her SNL characters are repetitious and almost every skit devolves into her screaming catchphrases at the camera and mugging for the camera. Totally takes the focus off the skit and puts it on her character every time.

Going to miss samberg like crazy, as well as sudeikis. But I am sooo happy Wiig will finally leave. She has the ability to kill a show with just one skit.

I was going to mention PCU. He was also good in The Emperor's New Groove. Sure kid's movie and all, but still I thought his voice acting was good.

Here are a few failures who bailed on SNL to vanish into obscurity besides Chevy Chase:

Christopher Guest
Martin Short
Damon Wayons
Joan Cusack
Robert Downey Junior
Randy Quaid
Anthony Michael Hall
Dennis Miller
Dana Carvey
Phil Hartman
Kevin Nealon
Mike Meyers
Ben Stiller
Chris Rock
Chris Farley
Rob Schneider
David Spade
Adam Sandler
Norm Macdonald
Sarah Silverman
Jay Mohr
Will Ferrel
Tracy Morgan
Jimmy Fallon
Tina Fey
Amy Poehler

But you knew all this which is why today is national Chevy Chase day.

Chevy Chase had a dud movie career? I'm pretty sure 99% of working comedic actors who would kill to have Caddyshack, Fletch and the Vacation franchises on their imdb pages.

I don't get what the headline is implying other than being troll-tastic.
Chevy was unsuccessful in movies?
Must be a child from the 90's

It's a decent amount of money, but it's dwarfed by what you can make in the movies and prime time TV.

The point is that you start your TV/movie career at SNL. If it ends there, it's because you suck.

I didnt realize Sudekis was a cast member. He's had a respectable movie career already and some nice guest roles on Always Sunny and East Bound & Down

/havent watched SNL regularly since Phil Hartman left.

Kristen Wiig is super talented...and after seeing her in those tiny black shorts in Extract, totally hittable. I think she has maxed out what she can do with SNL and needs more big movie roles. And, more scenes in shorts

Andy Samberg has a big future in writing and producing....as well as acting. SNL limited him, too

Nice parting gifts for Jason Sudekis. Probably the last we see of him
