Taking a sandwich doesn't mean you'll vote for him, the chips and soda could put it over the edge though.

That black guy standing out front completely negated the effect of the sandwiches.

This is important: What kind of mustard was on them?

So does this mean Obama automatically wins now? That would be great if we could just skip the 2012 election altogether.

Republicans breaking established voting laws? Pshaw, who cares? Not an issue. Wisconsin requires ALEC-approved Voter ID now so all voting problems are gone, forever.

Keep it up, Mittens. Make it so you lose BIG in November. Next election cycle, the GOP will once again wrongly assume it was because you weren't right-wing enough, and they'll trot out the people GUARANTEED to drive voters away. We are watching the implosion of the GOP.

The Democrats are full of bologna. This story doesn't cut the mustard.

I'm afraid I'll need to see the establishment's long-form menu before I order anything.

Sandwiches?

He'd need to buy me a couple of kegs, a few pounds of weed, and a couple of sheets of acid before I'd even start thinking Romney wasn't a piss poor choice for president...

Democrats?!

Wouldn't Santorum be the one to jump all over this?

Of course, the primaries are orchestrated by the Republican party, so they might just say "naah, everything's fine here". I would presume they have the right to do that.

I think after the dueling pressers Obama and Romney had yesterday where they went after each other directly was a silent acknowledgement that the only noise coming out of the Santorum campaign is proverbial gas being expelled from the corpse.

I'm sure it's all okay as long as the sluts were sent back to the kitchen after making the sammiches.

In reality this should be true, but the next contest is PA, where Santromnum has a commanding leading, so... onward Christian soldier!!!

Not only that, but while Romney might be "winning" states, the "winners" of a lot of these states actually only end up with a portion (admittedly the larger portion) of the delegates.

Santorum staying in the race can still lead to a brokered Convention, even if he fails to "win" any other states between now and the Convention.

If he can survive April I could believe that. What will make it really interesting is if Santorum takes Texas but Romney takes Pennsy.

Eh, I don't think it matters. What matters with Santorum is money simply to keep campaigning and keep his name in the news. So long as he keeps splitting delegate counts in states, he can make Romney's life really annoying even if he doesn't win them (in the states where there are proportional delegate assignment, of course).

You are right in terms of the media narrative, of course. It's easier to do a 1m30s story on who "won", as opposed to a 10m analysis on who won delegates in what area and why.

Right, a contested convention is his best case scenario. The problem is that his campaign has failed to get him on certain ballots, plus it seems that Romney just keeps raking in more delegates than Santorum no matter what.

Examples:
- Santorum beat Romney in Miss and AL, both HUGE wins for him, but Romney ended up with more delegates that day.
- Yesterday Romney only beat Santorum by 5 points in WI, but with the other contests factored in Romney netted himself 83 delegates and Santorum only 9.
- There's already talk that even if Santorum wins PA, Romney will end up winning more delegates from that state.

So, it looks like Romney MIGHT actually get there, if this trend keeps up.

It's certainly possible.

Not going to be pretty, but winning pretty is less essential than winning.

I find it kind of amusing that there's a lot of talk about how the GOP should fall in behind Rmoney because it will hurt them in the general otherwise. This seems to confuse the nature of causation. It's not the failure to fall in line that's going to hurt them, per se. Rather (so far as it's the case), the unwillingness to fall in line reflects deep divides within the party, and it's the deep divides that are actually what's hurting them.

My intuition is that the GOP pushing to get everyone lined up may do more harm than good by papering over the problem; but contrariwise, I can see an argument how the "fake it until you make it" approach might give more short term benefit if the differences are fundamentally irreconcilable.

If Santorum has a Gingrich-sized ego, you can bet your ass that he'll do whatever he can at that convention, consequences be damned.

I don't think Santorum does, though. I don't think anybody on the planet comes close to Gingrich, ego-wise.

Good point. In any case if he loses to Obama we're guaranteed a doubling-down of the derp. They will feel robbed of an election because the GOP ran a Massachusetts moderate instead of a real conservative, and they'll make sure the world knows this after the election.

The Republicans seem to have forgotten what they used to be great at... doing and saying whatever it takes to get elected. Once you're in office, *then* you get to make policy. It doesn't do you any good to stand on principles while losing the farking election.

The scary thing about Santorum is that it's not ego. He actually believes the insane idiocy that spews out of his mouth.

How can you build a professional Presidential campaign staff where no one says "Handing out free stuff to voters while campaigning could be a legal issue"?

It's still a violation of Wisconsin election law. In fact, it's a felony. A politician out electioneering can not provide anything of value to potential voters.

Why did those people even take the free sandwiches? True Republicans would have paid their fair share, because they understand that there's no such thing as a free lunch. Damn RINOs. I bet they're on foodstamps and like show tunes.
