LOL. Same team that beat the Pirates a couple of years ago.

It's like a fail mirror version of the70s.

Be fair. The Orioles provided the pitching and catching for both sides. It was an exhibition, not a real game.

My dad went to a conference in Baltimore and my mom showed up at his hotel, to
surprise him. Nine months later, I was born. So, yeah, I'm kind of a big Orioles fan.

Yeah, the Indians played their exhibition game against the Carolina Mudcats yesterday, and whipped them 13-0. The only names I recognized were Derek Lowe and Grady Sizemore.

Are you saying that the O's only managed one run against their own pitchers? Damn, I knew our pitchers were bad, didn't realize the batters sucked too.

The sad thing is, this isn't even close to being the most embarrassing thing in recent Orioles history.

We're talking about a team which lost to it's own minor league affiliate. A team that holds the record for worst-ever start to a season. A team that once managed to hit two grand slams in one inning and lost the game. A team that hasn't posted a winning record since 1997, and hasn't even played in (let alone won) a World Series since 1983.

They're like the anti-Ravens.

Meh, I think the most embarrassing thing in recent Orioles history was Luke Scott. I'm glad he's gone. I don't mind a losing team. Tickets are cheap and the fans that are at games are great since we can heckle the play on the field and still feel good win or lose, but having that idiot as one of the "faces" is something I'm glad I don't have to worry about anymore.

White Sox fan here. Just went on the whitesox.com website and saw that tix for a Tuesday night game in April between the ChiSox and the O's @ Sox Park were $45 for the lower deck. If attendance is more than 9K people, I'll be stunned.

I might actually go to the game, as I can get tickets on StubHub for about $4, then sit where ever the fark I please. Also, the Metra train can take me to & fro, so my drunk ass won't need to drive.

The Pirates had pillbox hats back then. It was an unfair advantage.

Bradenton has a long history of local folks showing up MLB players during spring training. Way back in the day, the local Tax Collector was given a one game contract to pitch against the Yankees as a publicity stunt because his brother was on the team--he struck out Babe Ruth. To this day, it's a point of pride at the Tax Collector's office that one of the past tax collectors struck out the Babe.

/as far as JUCO baseball goes, SCF's team has been one of the best junior college teams for years

Eh, the Orioles have won WS titles. The Brewers have not won a ring, plus they are the previous holders of the "longest losing season streak" in MLB history.

We can both look upon the hapless Pirates with equal disdain. I get that the core of the issue is that there is no near future hope of anything improving. That is tough as a fan of any team.

2012-04-04 03:52:22 PM
Meh, I don't see this as a big deal. Orioles pitchers on both sides and all the starters left in the 5th. This wasn't a serious game, and it wasn't a blow-out. Granted, I'm a pretty big homer.

/I think we're going to .500 this year, but I'll be happy when we aren't the worst team in the league.

I'm a huge Orioles fan but I am also a realist. I think this team is just as bad as last years team so I am not holding my breath for a Baltimore Championship (aka 81+ wins)

//Hope I'm wrong

They've been starting strong for the past couple of seasons. They just wind up falling on their after the first week. In 2011 they started 6-1 and then went into a free fall from there.

I always compare their record with how long it took to get that number of wins in '88. Helps keep things in perspective.

/6 wins? In '88 it took them 37 games to get there!

Saw the O's at spring training. They looked awful. (1 hit against the Twins?)

110 losses are not out of the question this year.

I don't know; if both teams were allowed to use tees, the Astro offense might actually be able to hit the ball

roc6783: The Brewers...are the previous holders of the "longest losing season streak" in MLB history.

Wrong. Not even close, in fact. The Brewers longest losing season streak is from 1993-2004, "only" 12 seasons. The Pirates have had losing seasons from 1993-present. Not 100% sure if that's the longest ever, but it's the longest current streak.

2012-04-04 11:52:16 PM
Because I'm sure a pro baseball team would play hard core against an obviously less talented opponant in a meaningless exhibition match.

Did they keep score? Did the scoreboard read Manatees 2, Orioles 1 at the end of the game?

Be fair, no matter who was pitching, this is funny.
