You know, Rick, I know you're not very good with the whole Google thing, but you might try searching for "UC american history (new window)" and clicking on the first link. That right there would make you more resourceful than 90% of the idiots that vote for you.

It's gotten to the point where it's infuriating that national Republican candidates not only tell such blatant lies with total impunity, and lies that are so implausible that they shouldn't even pass the smell test, but lies that take less than 10 seconds to disprove (or maybe 30 seconds on a phone), and millions of people will defend them anyway.

They probably don't teach American history the way he sees it, that is.

That was actually a painting done in 1776, when Obama used his time machine to try to destroy the Constitution before it could take root. Luckily, he was too stupid and muslim to figure out which one was the real one, so he only burned a copy (the one intended for New York, which explains a lot).

This.

Its not that they lie. Its not that their lies are so pathetically easy to counter its almost down right insulting. Its that they lie so badly and their base allows them to get away with it.

The problem isnt the lying. The problem is the idiot base who takes it as truth in an instant.

Rick Santorum is a former United States senator, therefore he is both a megalomaniac and clinically insane. The sooner everyone realizes this, the sooner they can ignore him like a crazy babbling street person and get on with their lives.

As a professor in the UC system, it frightens me that this man has the ear of a sizable portion of the nation. This depression is countered by the realization that Rick Santorum would not be allowed admittance to the UC system based on his intellectual ability (and that is saying quite a bit).

What you learn in history class are the boring items they think make up history.

You don't learn about all the history that's only funny 50-500 years later.Like Lysenkoism or that Napoleon was stoned when he lost.

Seriously, you are more likely to be run over by a bus than to learn about Lysenkoism in a history class. And it's so silly it's killed about 100 million people.

You know who else is a former US senator?

I loved the last line: "I don't think the doctors out there are as qualified as Santorum to pull things out of his ass." Sometimes Colbert just nails it.

This is what Rick Santorum thinks they should be teaching:

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA's first African-American President.

Rick Santorum is the embodiment of the GOP belief that their are no empirical, verifiable facts. Opinion becomes fact of you believe it really really hard. The Republicans have internalized every 90's era criticism of the Democrats: they're victims, they base their policies on feelings, they want to control every aspect of your life. The GOP is a mockery.

Granted, they weren't his birth parents since the family was broken up and sold on the auction block, but they're still parents. Right Rick?

Is Mr. Santorum a pathological liar or just dangerously misinformed? Why would he think in this day and age, more than 6,000 years after the earth was created, that he could tell whoppers like "California universities don't teach American history because teh liberals hate 'merica" and "socialized medicine has forced old people in the Netherlands to wear bracelets begging doctors not to kill them"?

That's a highly partisan way of looking at it. I think he's merely pointing out what a fire hazard it is to leave Constitutions lying around the house.

Or Lies My Teacher Told Me. That one is probably my favorite history book as of now, but Zinn's is also good.

I should show this to my dad sometime. He's a pretty hardcore conservative now, but he's also a huge student of history and thinks what we're doing to the education system with blatantly manipulating textbooks and demonizing intelligent people is ludicrous.

/slap bet says he thinks Santorum was off his rocker

Rachel Maddow did it. All she had to do was go to the UC Davis website and look up the course schedule.

2) You're an idiot if you think Lysenkoism killed 100 million people.
