He is right. Journalists pretend that both sides are equally reasonable no matter how extreme or absurd one or the other is.

"This bears on your reporting," President Obama said to journalists. "I think that there is oftentimes the impulse to suggest that if the two parties are disagreeing then they're equally at fault and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. And an equivalence is presented which I think reinforces peoples' cynicism about Washington in general. This is not one of those situations where there's an equivalency."

"As all of you are doing your reporting, I think it's important to remember that the positions that I am taking now on the budget and a host of other issues. if we had been having this discussion 20 years ago or even 15 years ago ... would've been considered squarely centrist positions," Obama said a few moments later.

Yep

What a shock, the President knows more about journalism than today's "journalists" do.

The reason that the GOP thinks Obama is the most socialist President ever is because they are moving to the right so quickly that the center has red-shifted.

Teach the controversy, especially when there is none.

How is this statement not accurate?

Clearly Obama's problem is not having enough gay male prostitute plants in the press corps. That's what a Real American President would have done...

Ahh, Tass. Now that was a news agency that knew how to present the leader's positions.

Opposition? Why, there isn't any. Again.

You know him saying that makes "conservatives" mad, that is their bread and butter in moving an agenda.

Actually he's an arrogant POS that assumes he's always right. But since you're a libtard stuck to his junk, you're in agreement with him and can't see reality. Sorry, regardless of how he feels about it, it's not his place to tell the media how to do their job. But since that's just another part of the Constitution that he's wiping his arse with, it's all good huh?

I love how he thinks a $1.3 trillion dollar deficit budget would be squarely centrist 20 years ago.

He's absolutely correct. Stewart has pointed this out in the past as a neurotic obsession on the part of CNN, in particular, but it's a problem with American journalism in general.

The republicans have already won. They've shifted the debate so far to the right that a center-right Barack Obama is perceived by half of the county as a socialist and a far-right corporatist like Mitt Romney is a "moderate."

They've already won. They've been playing the long game. They appear to be losing these silly birth control/abortion battles and win the war while everyone is distracted. The far right got literally everything they wanted 10/15 years ago.

People need to understand that this is the game they play. Each time they bring up their nuttery, they lose, but long term it shifts the entire debate to the right.

20 years ago Bill Clinton was considered left. Now he is considered a centrist. How does that happen if we are driving so far to the right exactly? Massive no government public works programs. Government buying into the auto industry. New massive healthcare plan,. These aren't center concepts. Socialist is I'll agree the wrong term, but they are definitely way to the American progressive left.

"Guys, I need you to work harder on the propaganda. I sure as hell can't run on my record so I need you to pretend I'm a centrist and that the Republicans are extremists. I also need you to place all blame for lack of any progress on anyone that isn't a Democrat. You've been the public relations wing for me and my party for decades now but it is just isn't working. You're not lying often enough and people aren't believing it."

It is only true on the assumption that your party is right. It is a stupid assumption in politics as there are no absolutes. Thinking so demonstrates blind partisanship. For example, your post.
