x-caliber: My live feed just went out as they said "South Frisco, hang on" or something similar. My mom is in South Frisco. Just got a text, in her bathtub with laptop and cell phone. Still working. Crazy lady.

If it was me, I'd use that time to fap. Why the hell not?

bonobo73: AbbeySomeone: Walker: Timmy the Tumor: BASEBALL sized hail in Garland.

I'm at the high school trying to get my kid, they just went into lockdown.

A lockdown? Does the tornado have a gun?
First it tried to hijack a plane at the airport and now it's packing heat. This thing is hardcore.

Tornadoes kick ass and take names later. They are extremely badass.

And yet people who live in 1-2 story structures are deathly afraid of earthquakes.

I will personally a natural disaster who's maximum damage is what it causes to collapse over something that can literally pick me up like an angry Titan and hurl me into the next county.

I think what freaks people out wrt Earthquakes is the lack of any adequate warning system. You get maybe a half-a-second warning via your ears before it hits. Compared to that, severe warning alerts go off well in-advance.

TheGhostofFarkPast: ATRDCI: SchadenFraud: Because God's on the side of the Texas legislature and they hate Texas children. (Especially the poor ones).

A-farking-men to that; I mean shiat, the whole "Money goes to education thing" the Lotto spiels? The Lotto Committee give the lump sum to the legislature with the intention of it to help education. So where does it go? Why the general fund of course, where education will never see penny! We couldn't be bothered to save the education system from massive cuts with what we litterally called a "Rainy Day fund", why the fark would we give the education sytem money from people who want to give it money?

/sorry, I'll take down my soapbox
//live around Houston; stay safe Dallas-Fort Worth residents

THIS. Texas is every republicans fantasy these last few years. You screw over the old, poor, and young a like . You then give all the power to companies who do nothing but rape and pillage the tax base around here and take every last dime they can yet all they offer are minimum wage slave jobs. Then you dress Perry up in guns and God and you have a tornado of pure moronic attitudes running every aspect of our state. This place is going to hell in a hand basket and nobody who can make an honest difference gives a crap, everybody is on the take.

I mean, it wasn't THAT long ago that representatves in the legislature got caught voting on bills for people who weren't there at the moment. A system has been made so that only the actual rep could vote, but it mysteriously hasn't been implemented, and there also mysteriously has been no real action to punsh those who voted (and continue to vote) for others

Since the population of Arlington is only 365,000, I'm doubting your claim.

American Airlines has cancelled EVERYTHING going in and out of DFW.

Farking hell. Glad I ain't flying today.

Flab: Why don't all y'alls have basements? I understand that for us, it's to prevent the pipes from freezing in winter, but if I lived in Tornadoland, I'd make sure I had one...

DFW soil is on a clay base that is subject to shifting in extreme wet and dry conditions. Can't build a basement in unstable ground.

Pretty sure the town isn't that large....

I think last census + extrapolation puts it around 400k.

It would certainly replace Galveston as most horrific natural disaster if everyone died.

It'd probably be the third or fourth worst in the last ten years, globally. But yeah, not going to happen. For as much fun as I make of Texas, it is pretty well-suited to handle disasters.

I'm watching the WFAA live feed, they have instant feedback from ground spotters. I didn't know TV stations down there had storm chasers who give up to the second reports when tornadoes touch down.

I'm so happy I refused to fly AA once my last Texas job was finished. United might be sucky but at least the suck is consistent.

Makes sense to cancel the flights, anybody trying to get around the metroplex is going to find it impossible. Especially right around the airport.

I do wish Americans used that word more often. It just sounds prettier and rolls more nicely off the tongue than "truck" or "trailer".

We call 'em 18-wheelers here in Texas, son.

Mr-Wunderful: State of Disaster was just declared by the mayor of Arlington. Heard Arlington now resembles Detroit except that they still have a working GM plant.

But not as hard as I chuckled at that one.

Not all of us Texans are mouth-breathing fundies who pray for rain or lack thereof! Some of us even got 'lectricity and indoor plumbing!!

Every time someone from the midwest says "Oh you don't have to worry about tornadoes. The chances of one going through where you live are so slim" I think of shiat like this.

All it would take is once to traumatize me for life. I already have nightmares about the damn things and have never lived anywhere near tornado country.

They have to. The planes got hit by hail. Every plane that was on the ground will have to be inspected before it can be put back into service.
