Will this be the subject of an upcoming Top 6 list?

I know people that make that kind of money, and while they have a lot of nice stuff, I don't really think about them as being rich because they still have to go to work to get that money.

When they can sit on their asses and get paid, then they are rich.

Sounds fat, lazy, poor and like a Democrat.

Oh, and a minority too.

People have different tastes. I find many of their lists (including this one) quite funny.

I think it all boils down to the popularity point made with Ebeneezer Scrooge. People don't hate rich people for being rich, they hate the dicks who are rich and don't want to be a member of society, or those who became rich by being horrible horrible people. It's all about the attitude. There are those who hate rich people because they're jealous but they're a tiny fraction, barely worthy of mention, yet they're portrayed as everyone under $50k a year.

I think it's related to why I don't like Gawker's "house style" at all.

I feel they're on the same continuum.

individually you might be right about that. Collectively, 'rich people' are very much afraid of facing down voters and protesters. why else would they push the cops to shut down OWS protests by any/all means necessary.

Hm, you're right. I was too general.
What I meant was specifically related to the subject of the article. That is to say, rich people don't care if you think they should stop saying certain things.

that's probably true - as a class, most 1% really DON'T care about any consequences of their actions. they already got theirs so the rest of us can just f*ck off.

Another telling sign: gated communities. They are intentionally cutting themselves off from the rest of society.

The thing is this: the gap between poor and middle class is widening-to the point that owning a house is now considered being rich.

This.

For some people, getting paid more means they need to have more things or fancier things in order to be happy. But really, the difference between driving to work in a beat up Toyota and driving to work in a brand new Lexus is pretty small. On the other hand, the amount of money you save driving the Toyota might represent a year's worth of living expenses if you're frugal. That's one less year you have to drive to work at all.

It's always funny to hear non-rich peoples' generalizations about "the rich" and all the horrible things they do, when in reality they are completely dependent on the rich for their very existence.

Dicks exist at every social and economic level.

But, because of the nature of money and how having it brings power, people really only have to worry about rich dicks.

That's always a hilarious one because most of the jobs are small businesses and the people who run those business are not rich.

Exactly

No one is really worried about the impact the Fark League of Fail has - they're just funny in a slightly sad way.

If they had a few hundred billion each they'd be the Koch brothers.

Employers are not dependent on labor?

Many jobs are not created by the rich. Most jobs re created from small businesses which are not rich people. Someone who is making $50k a year with a Subway franchise is by no means "rich".

For 99% of the working class, the rich don't pay you, they just sit between you and the people who buy the products you make.

Sure they are, but they have to power to find the labor they want when you get all uppity and want a better standard of living than they want you to have

I believe around 50% of the richest people gained their money because it was inherited. I don't really consider that "hard working".

And his $50,000 a year franchise isn't making that money by selling sandwiches exclusively to rich people.

I live on the Upper East Side
In a town house with a staff
I've got a live-in maid, a butler and valet
Who lays out my clothes, draws a bath.

My girlfriend is a spiffy little Cliffie
And her name is Biffie MacAdoo.
Her father's very wealthy and he owns Vermont
And a chunk of New Hampshire, too.

I wear alligator shirts, she wears A-line skirts
With a circle pin on her lapel.
And on our feet we wear Sperry TopSiders
'Cause they're classy and they look real swell.

Sassoon, Jordache,
we don't wear designer jeans
Oh they fit rather well, they look like hell
We get khakis from L.L. Bean's

On summer vacation we go to Nantucket
where we sail or we fish in the sea
when the cold wind blows, we grab warm clothes
and it's off to Colorado to ski
