If you feel the need to take a gun to have an argument with someone, then I suggest you really not go to the arguement. Call the police if there is something illegal going on.

A gun is a weapon designed to kill. That it's sole purpose.

I don't care what color you are. This 71 year old man is just as guilty as Zimmerman. By him carrying a gun into a hostile situation is bad and should be charged with manslaughter.

But but someone in the Trayvon thread said if the guy claims self defense the prosecutor has no choice but to let him go? What happened to that?

Then it's time to brush off argument #2: "No, you're a poopyhead"

The did let him go. He was arrested two days later after witnesses claimed it wasn't self defense. It will be interesting to see if the case is dismissed. If the Garcia case is dismissed, I can't see how there is a good case against Dooley or Zimmerman.

My question is, if you support the Stand Your Ground Law, why on Earth wouldn't you be calling for Zimmerman's head? He left his vehicle and pursued his victim on foot. Regardless of who beat up who, he created the situation that led to the shooting by leaving his vehicle.

He's an example of someone who farks it up for everyone else. When other states try to copy the law, this will be exhibit A of the arguments against it. You should be pissed at the dipshiat.

Don't pursue. Leave it up to trained authorities who will justifiably shoot the perp if it is warranted.

I came to say this. If you bring any type of weapon to an argument, you do so with the expectation that you will need to use it. Having a weapon on you, before you even confront the person you deem threatening, is itself a threatening act as far as I'm concerned.

In 2009, a judge dismissed assault charges against a Miami man who bolted out of his home and fired his rifle at two electric company employees.

It's almost as if someone said, "Florida can't possibly get stupider." At which point its people elected Jeb Bush who rose to meet that challenge in every way.

Well showers are only there to get yourself clean so I would not be allowed to sing. It depends what the pencils and pens would be used for and you would only swim to get out of the water.

No really. A gun is designed to kill. It is a tool specifically designed for that purpose. I am as pro gun nut as you can get, and I assure you, if you own a gun, someone put time and effort into designing it to kill.

I'm shocked that it took Fark this long to bring this case up. Considering this guy grabbed a gun and confronted a guy because he didn't like what he said, this case isn't close to being the same.

This is what I was taught when I went for my permit as well. I thought that was standard practice, but I guess things are different in Florida. I'm beginning to see why the state has its own Fark tag.

Why is this a liberals vs conservative argument again? Please explain without trying to justify your with being right.

I just think its farked up a kid got killed and clearly there is something wrong with either the law that allowed it to happen or the way its been documented.

Many states explicitly disqualify an affirmative defense for use of deadly force if the user is found to have instigated the confrontation in which deadly force was used. Unfortunately, Florida law lacks such a provision and opponents of legal self-defense frequently ignore this provision when it is present in extant or proposed legislation.

well... you can use a gun as a paper weight, or a door stop, but its not designed to fullfill those roles. its purely coincidental.

In the state's largest prosecutor's office, Miami-Dade County, the chief assistant state attorney, Kathleen Hoague, is appealing a recent Stand Your Ground case where the charges were dismissed. Hoague says it involves Greyston Garcia, a man who chased a suspected burglar for more than a block before catching him and stabbing him to death.

"He came from a position of safety and pursued this person," Hoague says. "The real issue is what happened at the time that they actually came together. But certainly it wasn't a situation where our dead person attacked him."

That's kinda the whole point in these cases. You were safe, you then opted to place yourself in a volatile situation and brought a gun. What did you think would happen, dumbass?

In her order, Judge Beth Bloom wrote that Garcia was, "well within his rights to pursue the victim and demand the return of his property."

Are you shiatting me? It was STUFF. It was THINGS. A dude DIED, for STUFF. I get it, he's a bad bad man and should be punished. But not with DEATH.

I understand it's original design, but really it's too blanket of statement that guns are designed to kill. I have specifically designed target weapons and at this point I have spent 100% more time killing targets than people - as is probably the case with most gun owners. My kids don't know guns are designed to kill they know they are designed for sport and some people use them to kill.

I've never killed anyone with an Axe either and I use my computer for personal entertainment.

Nope, just that every possible loophole and weasel lawyer is going to find any possible means of forcing the law to apply where it really doesn't. Happens all the time with all sorts of laws.

Then again, if people were logical and sane, we wouldn't need warning labels on hot coffee, and we wouldn't need to spell out the terms of reasonable self defense. Contrary to popular belief, each and every individual has the right to protect him or herself from great bodily harm/death.

Humans are also always going to be violent. You have bans on guns in many places, and that doesn't stop it. It just changes the method.

In a perfect world, we'd all get along with each other, and we'd only need weapons for hunting. That ain't going to happen. Until then, I won't trust anyone until I see both hands and their prehensile penis on the table.
