Time for my rant...

As bad as it ended up being in the long run, I didn't mind the Chara/Spezza for Yashin *trade* that much. It came with a series of other moves that took the Islanders from worst in the NHL to a 5-seed in one year. Keep in mind that this was a team that was 7 years removed from its last playoff appearnace at the time. They needed to do something, and it led to a playoff series that was actually pretty great even though it didn't go our way*. Obviously the improvement didn't last, and I'd like that 10-year, $90 mil contract that they gave to Yashin back, but I never thought the trade itself was the worst thing in the world.

What was the worst thing in the world was trading Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen to Florida for Mark Parrish and Oleg farking Kvasha. Mainly done to clear the goalie prospect spot so that he could draft DiPietro #1 over Heatley and Gaborik. Read that again. And that aforementioned 7-year playoff drought? Mostly under Milbury. As well as a lot of the struggles that followed.

So yeah, fark Mike Milbury.

*Darcy farking Tucker, you prick

"So you know, Crosby gets cross-checked, big whoop," Milbury said of the hockey star who sat out games for more than a year after a concussion.

Yeah, I'm sure Milbury would have been totally cool with guys taking shots at his team's number 1 player back in the day.

Milbury and Burke

Tied for first overall in wildly over-inflated opinion of themselves.

And that may not be just hockey; it could easily be the world title.

Anyways, Milbury is a dolt, but it wouldn't hurt Crosby to NOT milk every missed call.

Millbury is already backing down.

"I reached out to David Morehouse and the Penguins about the comments I made yesterday on Philadelphia radio." Milbury said in a statement. "In hindsight, I realize what I said was inappropriate and wrong, and I want to apologize to the Penguins organization and their fans."

It's a continual source of amazement and wonder that hockey broadcasters consider the worst General Manager in the history for the game a credible commentator.

Milbury cracks me up... Some of the shiat he comes out with. *shakes head*

He's never going to live down the shoe incident or the Chara trade.

He's right, though, Crosby was slashing up a storm in that game and he got a cross check for it. That's hockey...

2012-04-03 01:31:53 PM
The Penguins need to move on from that incident. They have bigger issues, like the complete lapse in their defense over the past two-three weeks. Fleury looks lost now letting in all those goals against the ISLANDERS. Some of that isn't his fault with the shoddy defense, but I wonder if his confidence is shocked.

It's my fault, I jinxed them. I said they couldn't be stopped and were cup favorites around March 15. Since then they can't stop the skid. Can try to outscore opponents in the playoffs, but defense and goalies win cups.

The only thing I have to say about this is that when I go to Avs games, I often see Peter McNabb (Milbury's accomplice in the shoe incident) walking through the halls on his way up from the ice to the booth. I also saw him at Shotgun Willie's once.

Who should I root for tonight in the Stars/Sharks game? The Avs need help to get in, but I have Lehtonen on my fantasy team and this is the championship week (woot! picked last, had Crosby on the bench all year and was in last at Christmas).

Well, he's got a point.

Crosby is certainly an extremely talented player, but he's also a bit of a biatch on the ice. Not only did he check Schenn prior, but he also runs around slashing the sticks out of other players hands, or simply breaking his own over other players sticks, with nary a call in sight. He then gives the puppy eyes to the refs after being cross checked after a play, then runs his mouth at the Flyers bench and has to have Asham step in for him when someone goes back at him.

And I'll repeat what I posted yesterday... not even a sideways glance was given to Malkin rabbit punching Giroux in the back of the head after a check.... a player who, like Crosby, is one of the best on his team, and also concussion prone. Had that same scenario happened to Crosby, the entire city of Pittsburgh would be on melt-down status, and there'd be cries for season ending suspensions.

Me, actually sticking up for the Flyers. Hell hath truly frozen over.

As for Milbury, stop apologizing for speaking your mind. Isn't that what you're paid for?

I guess the NHL needs to get the East Coast fired up for the playoffs some how. After all everybody knows the St. Louis Blues are going to win the cup this year, the rest of the league just can't compete.

Don't forgot the flagrent embellishment when he got cross-checked, then immediately looking over to the ref instead of to the person who 'supposedly' cross-checked him so hard he looked like superman on the way down.

My wife, who knows very little about hockey, and doesn't even pay attention most of the time *hates* Sydney Crosby. She refers to him as "that little biatch."

I remember the first time she ever commented on him: "Who is this guy? Why is is that every time I look up (she was playing on the computer or something) he's pouting about something?"

"That's Sydney Crosby, he's one of the best players in hockey."

"For one of the best players in hockey, you'd think he'd be less of a little biatch. All he does is whine."

...I knew I married her for a reason :) We saw a replay of that vicious cross-check at the bar yesterday "Oh look, the whiner is whining again because someone touched him. I thought hockey was supposed to be a man sport."

As an aside one of her other gems came when I was watching a UNC-Duke game a few years ago.

"Who is announcing this game?"

"Dick Vitale, honey."

"Dick Vitale is annoying. Can you turn that down?"

And their fans can't say anything because every Flyers game I watch, any time one of their players gets checked, they're all jumping out of their seats and waving their arms in disbelief wanting a call. Watch a Pens home game - you don't see the fans doing that. Learn the rules, Flyer fans.

bart2puck: penguins need to move on? when did they stop? they have been moving since they got smoked. they are more worried about the 29 goals in 6 games or so... philly needs to move on....let it go....

This.

There was a hard, legal hit and Philly reacted like Pittsburgh was trying to start WWIII. All four other Flyers on the ice immediately tried to pick a fight with Vitale, and then the Pens came to defend. To say that the Pens instigated the incident means you weren't watching or you have a habit of referring to Crobsy as "Cindy". The Pens, I'm sure, will have no problems "moving on" and playing a hard hockey game on Saturday. The Flyers might be looking for some "revenge" to their perceived slight and forget about winning the game.

Incidentally, the Pens should start Brent Johnson in goal just in case he has to get involved.

2012-04-03 02:11:35 PM
I'm just pissed that Joe Vitale's massive, totally clean hit on Briere led to a fight and not a turnover and offensive chance like it was supposed to.

/If you're Danny Briere, up 3 in a chippy, contested game with a minute left, maybe you should keep your head up and not get cleanly leveled by a 4th liner?

2012-04-03 02:13:41 PM
No wonder Philly freaked out, it was a clean hit and they've never seen one.

Donnchadha: There was a hard, legal hit and Philly reacted like Pittsburgh was trying to start WWIII.

I think they were already a little charged up at Pittsburgh's 4th line being out there at the time.

Regardless, both teams on Sunday were guilty of embellishments and overreactions. Watching that game was fun & sad at the same time.

Hey now, that's not fair! Go back to the years where San Jose had to fight just to get into the playoffs every year (94-2000 or so), and you'll see that they played their best hockey when the regular season was most on the line.

Playoffs? Yeah, not so much.

But I'd bet a TON of money that the sharks will make the playoffs this year, because they will. Sure they'll be unceremoniously dispatched in the first round by a far superior opponent, but making it? You bet your ass they will!

Listen Penguin fans, I realize most of you started watching hockey about the time the Penguins started tanking games to get Crosby, but don't act as if that had been him getting hit in the last few minutes of a game they dominated the rest of the team wouldn't have reacted the same way. And why don't you just admit that the Penguins do the same dirty shiat that you people accuse every other team of doing?
