I'm shocked we've made it this far without Breitbart or Townhall or one of the other fetid "Blogger-Patriot" circle-jerks creating their own Movie Awards.

I can just see Victoria Jackson shambling from the buffet and upon the stage at the Skeeter Holler Super 8, catching her breath and bleating "And the Reagan for Best Picture goes to...Atlas Shrugged again! It's a sweep! Obama's the gay baby of Hitler and Saddam!"

A Breitbart piece about Hollywood? I can only guess that it's John Nolte. That guy is so bitter that he was never able to make it in Hollywood that he just keeps lashing out at those poopyheads who were so mean to him.

Why go after Sandler? Because his films appeal to the everyman. They're watched by those strange people in flyover country who have probably never heard of Terence Malick or Sacha Baren Cohen.

WAT? I'm pretty sure that anyone who likes Sandler also loves Cohen.

Then there are films like "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." Yes, the trilogy of books were written by a communist hero, and the plots suggest a very long and boring journey to a conclusion no one will care about. What a perfect opportunity for liberal "artists" to take advantage and pretend they are more intelligent than the fool who entertains himself with "Happy Gilmore."

Wow...just wow.

And I don't know anybody who can't at least laugh at some part of Happy Gilmore.

i live in flyover country. personally, i find malick an overrated hack, but i am very fond of sacha baron cohen. as for sandler? i think that jack and jill deserves to win every razzie every year until the end of time.

There is this peculiar thing in American culture now where nothing is allowed to be better or worse than anything else. It's probably an offshoot of left-wing political correctness, but it seems to know no political bent anymore. In fact, I see it coming more from the right nowadays than I do the left. This article is a good example.

It is no longer considered appropriate to claim anything (movies, music, food, art) is inherently better than anything else.

People get very angry about cultural criticism anymore, as if it's a personal assault.

Wait - he's defending Adam Sandler getting Razzies?

Really?

FTFA:

Happy Madison, meanwhile, brought in $103 million ("Just Go With It"), $74 million ("Jack and Jill"), $2.5 million ("Bucky Larson") in 2011. Money is obviously not the sign of whether a film is good or not, but when films are as highly advertised as all of these then it usually means something.

What does it mean?

We are amazingly exceptional, except when we are like everyone else, and the guys and gals we want to have beers with. We are the best culture on earth, but no one is better than anyone else. We hate the Everyone Gets a Trophy Culture, except when we don't get our trophy.

In a nutshell: Americans be crazy. That's why the world fears us. Because we're crazy, and we got all these explosives and guns. It's like having a really hot, exceedingly unstable girlfriend. Yeah, you like to be seen with her, but damn girl...

FTFA: Despite "Girl" having a HUGE marketing push, it barely managed to cross the $100 million mark. That's probably what they spent on advertising the film.

You see, I'm just open minded enough to listen to anyone and take their argument seriously, and be willing to be convinced. Here, you have outed yourself as a journalist who doesn't know what he's talking about and didn't bother to research it. The film cost $90 million total, and therefore earned a profit of about $12 million. Notwithstanding that simple research project, if anyone spent $100 million on marketing costs for a movie, it is likely that the movie cost almost $300 million to make at a minimum (typical movie marketing for a projected blockbuster is about 35%, give or take).

I like Adam Sandler and I like Sasha Baron Cohen. Jack and Jill looked like a horrendous turd. I don't care who was in it. Peter Farking Sellers could have starred in that film and it would have been horrible. Well...maybe...no. No. Not even Peter Sellers could make a movie like that good.

Says who? We have hundreds of competitions and award shows. Less than 10% of movies get Oscars. The NFL, a sports league with the most competition, is #1.

Just because some Breitbart guys are mad that certain movies didn't win awards does not mean that American culture has become afraid to say one thing is better than the other.

WaltzingMathilda: The film cost $90 million total

and jack and jill cost $79 million total. so by tfa's math, that movie's marketing push must have cost $88 million.

but why dont they? or didnt the xian right already create a set of awards???
they could roll together best and worst, and tv and movies and get everything over in one fell swoop.

I bet it would get HUGE ratings. and they wouldnt have to worry about ANY of the hollywood elite showing up to get their awards.

/these people really dont understand that some people are DIFFERENT than them. for a reason.

The Razzies also prided themselves this year on giving Adam Sandler a record amount of nominations for his involvement in films like "Jack and Jill," "Just Go With It" and "Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star." All were done under Happy Madison Productions, and "Jack and Jill" ended up winning the lion's share of the "trophies." Why go after Sandler? Because his films appeal to the everyman. Adam Sandler got a record amount of nominations for making some really stupid movies this year. I'm not sure why the author assumes people in "flyover country" are enthralled by those types of movies.

And they've never heard of Terence (SIC) Malick or Sacha Baren (SIC) Cohen? Even if the author assumes these people to be ignorant, backwood rednecks (as it seems he does), they might be familiar with these:

I know it is custom to use the honorific title for an elected official but there should be a caveat to that - if you resign your office, you can't use the title. of if you are impeached and convicted, boom, no more honorific for you.

and i'm stealing this from kronicfeld, but it is funny how on sports shows, they still use "coach" as an honorific. like, tony dungy hasn't coached in what, 4 years? and yet it is always, "we now go to the coach, tony dungy..."

It is sort of telling that these folks think that Sandler's brand of low humor is automatically what should appeal to "flyover country" and that he considers swaths of the nation to be that "flyover country" is likewise telling.

In short: how dare people not go see things that I expected them to. Don't they realize that it's only a few months until "Ow, My Balls" premieres?

Because no one would care about the Razzie Awards if they didn't award who the majority thought bombed the worst that year. Sure there were movies worse than Jack and Jill, but if nobody saw them, no one would give a fark about the Razzies.

According to the rules of protocol, the title "Governor," like the title "President," is reserved exclusively for the current office holder. Senators are the only elected officials who retain their titles after their term of office. After the term is over, a former elected official can be known as "the Honorable" Mr. or Ms. etc., but they do not retain the title of their former office.

(Ditka, however, will always be Coach Ditka.)

The problem I see is that some people identify way too much with - to the point of being defined by - the things they like. They don't understand that someone not liking the same form of entertainment is just an opinion based on different taste and NOT a commentary on income level, family life, and general lifestyle.
