The first time I ever encountered a hipster bar was on Sunset. I thought it was a costume night, or some kind of parody, but no. It was a flock of hipsters drinking nothing but PBR. One actually scoffed at my girlfriend who ordered a cider, asking how she could drink it.

She replied, "because I actually enjoy it, I'm not trying desperately to fit in"

I don't know what is worse when it comes to names: coffee shops, Vietnamese restaurants, or tattoo parlors.

We've got a tattoo parlor up here called "Dragon Guy." DRAGON. GUY.

i.imgur.com This place has everything; glass, steam, bear-traps, and just when you think the fun is over, knock knock, who's there? it's black George Washington. All of that in a party room filled with human bath mats."
"What are human bathmats?"
"It's that thing when, like, midgets have dreadlocks and they lay face down on the floor."

There are a lot of good things about Silverlake. But going down there is often like going to a game preserve for hipsters. And I mean "real" hipsters, not the Fark definition for hipster which apparently means anything that doesn't fall into either the preppy, jock or redneck arenas.

Isn't Pho pronounced Fuuh, like a British person would say "fur"?

2012-04-03 01:24:07 PM
Huh, I've always thought that the Vietnamese idea of a little R & R was a bowl of rice with a little rat meat.

Hipsters ruin everything. I recently went back to Echo Park after an absence of about a decade and it looked like it had been infested with apes who fell sideways through a thrift store and onto a giant belt sander. All the carnicerias were replaced by boutiques selling pre-distressed clothing, all the liquor stores were now coffee shops or vintage record stores. I honestly liked it better when it was full of gang members.

Probably. They also pronounce Nguyen as "win" or "wen." Apparently, anything beginning with "Nguy" is a "w."

Who knew?

No, we're all a bit unfortunate in that we don't realize that "pho" is pronounced "fuh".

A couple blocks from where I work...ate there once. Told the guy they should sell t-shirts...I think he got confused...didn't speak English at all. I think half their business is people coming to see if it's really their real name and take pictures in front of the sign.
