It's worth whatever the guy can sell it for.

/doubt the $2 million

Now, maybe I'm a sucker, but if I did this and it actually sold for $2 million, I'd go back to the garage sale, and give the person who sold it to me $100,000 just to be nice.

That's still just 10%. I still walk away with $1,900,000 and they get something significant (to them) for giving me the chance to find this treasure in the first place. It's a consolation, but it's a nice one.

I don't HAVE to do something like that. But I would. I'd feel like a jerk if I walked away spending only $5 and knowing that the person who sold it would feel like total shiat knowing that they gave away $2 million dollars like that.

Paying $5 for anything by Andy Warhol is paying about $4.99 too much. His work is crap.

I find garage sales real hit and miss. Found a $3500 book for $.50 at a gsale. And a significant piece of folk-art whittle valued around $1500 that I haven't bothered to sell, bought for $3 at a church rummage sale. But it's been a while since I found anything extraordinary at a gsale. Maybe if I diversified into more eBay type stuff I'd find more at gsales, but I'm up to my eyeballs in books these days.

I use Gsaler on my iPhone, which trawls the craigslists ads and put them on a map. I have found that people suck at advertising their sales on Craiglist, with estate sale grade clean outs getting just a sentence and a single table worth of items getting two pages.

Oh, and at the end of the day throw away (or recycle) those 30 year old text books. And the water damaged stuff. And the encyclopedias. And the manuals. And the software how-to's for windows 95. Don't donate them to Goodwill, I hate it when I do the shelving and 40% of the tub is crap that NOBODY WILL WANT. I have to reserve shelf space for the good shiat. And I do know what people want, I'm a mercenary librarian. I'm also the guy who goes through and pulls old stuff off the shelves so fresh shiat can go out.

What's funny is that shows that Warhol was dong that stuff when he was young - it wasn't some cheap trick to get publicity and sales, or an ironic commentary on whatever.

That sketch itself is actually pretty neat.

If the seller was a meth head, he might have gotten full value for the thing. Remember kids, research stuff online first before selling it. Meth users do, heroin users don't?

Who cares if it's crap. It's the fact that people who think it's worth paying lots of bucks for that is important.

I'd call my shiat art if people were willing to pay for it.

I smell a fraud. What 10 year old signs their drawings at the bottom like a piece of art? If it were signed at all it would be at the top because it was a school project.

Not necessarily. In school, I was taught to sign in the bottom right area of the drawing.

Oh, no. A real Warhol (ie. actually done by some anonymous toady working in The Factory) is probably nearly worth the whole $5

no clever name here just move along: He's not going to sell it? Yeah right....

If he made it himself; that's the smart move.

If he doesn't sell it, he can't be charged with fraud. He can just pretend he has a $2,000,000 piece of (shiat) art handing on his wall.

I predict a fire in his future, followed by a call to the insurance company.

He's smart enough to put it on display until the economy improves. Why sell now for $2 million when you can get "10x the formal valuation" later?

Yeah, the person using middle-school language calls me uneducated.

His work is crap. He was an overrated hack who's only claim to fame is he somehow convinced a bunch of Hollywood elite to buy his crap. He's no better than that Keane eyes artist-wanna-be. My step-daughter was a better artist when she was only 12. And that's comparing him when he was at the peak of his popularity.

Survey says...OgreMagi is correct...it is crap. But, thanks for playing KrispyKritter. But all is not lost...I do have some doodles done by my 5 year old daughter that you may be able to purchase for, say, ONE MILLION DOLLARS! (little finger to the corner of the mouth assumed).

How does one decide whether art is crap or not?

It's art. It's subjective. And this art is apparently worth $2M. That's objective. And it's far from crap in my books.
