Will I be allowed to hit them in the face with a pie?

And when I say pie, I mean a pillowcase full of doorknobs.

Will I be allowed to squirt him with a water pistol?

And when I say water pistol, I mean gutshoot him with my shotgun and bury him in the woods with a sack of quicklime...

FTFA: The performers are paid and receive extensive medical clown training, which involves becoming familiar with a variety of illnesses, before working in hospitals.

I hope that includes Coulrophobia.

Clowns are older than civilization.

It's too bad if your soul-memory associates fear with clowns, as you've probably had verifiable experiences gone bad with clowns in the past or present...

It's cool if you are indifferent to clowns, as the mask is almost older than the face, and maybe ultimately it is...

It's fine if you dig clowns and think all of your soul effervesces at the thought of a smiley, happy, fun time now face of a clown...

Fear civilization second, self third, and nothing first.

Poet out. ;)

Sooo. I remember reading about this study done in hospital pediatric wards to find out which theme decorations etc. kids responded to the best and which ones they responded to the least. Clowns scored extremely low across the board, with many of the kids reporting as uncomfortable to terrified, instead of the calming, soothing, friendly environments they were trying to accomplish. They figured out that clowns were triggering the uncanny valley effect in children like whoa, to a much greater extent than they did with the adults, probably because of the environment already being unknown and scary (you know, hospitals) as it is.

I guess these people didn't get that memo?

/The adults in the study were "surprised" by the strong reactions the kids had
//Which made me go "...are you farking kidding me?"
///Hate clowns. Fark 'em. Fark 'em all with fire.

2012-04-02 06:13:44 PM
Don't clowns exist in Uncanny Valley? Is that part of the reason why children don't like them? (new window) Yeah, I'm sure this'll work out well.

And no, I am generally not a clown fan. Although mimes.... Mimes, I can deal with. Probably because they're quieter...

2012-04-02 06:17:25 PM
I don't hate clowns, I just don't get them
They aren't really amusing or funny or silly.
Sometimes I'm actually embarrassed for the person under the makeup, but not too much, since we now have hundreds of hours of television per week devoted to people purposefully doing idiotic things and proudly showing their mug to the world. So I give clowns some points for the dignity of anonymity.

But I don't know why all the world would love one.

Patch Adams is a hippie. Saw him at a conference a few weeks ago in Grand Rapids, MI.

When you're trying to get funding for your hospital, you don't say things like "Cheney is as bad as Stalin" or "Corporations are taking over everything" or "if you don't believe in Global Warming, you're blind".

This man needs a few lessons in reality...

However,

This clown-hatred is based on sight and not experience, sometimes?

Here's a pertinent platitude for you: Don't judge a book by its cover...

A good, non-creepy clown is identifiable immediately in person usually. So is a creepy clown, btw. Trust yer guts, people. I think the parents are more at fault with clown fears; poor parents parent problems. 'Tis true and verifiable.

Be a good parent, and perhaps yer peeps won't fear so much, no?

Fear is the ultimate enemy.

Parent out fear, please.

Thank you.

You don't need to eat a whole egg to know it's rotten; you don't need to know a creepy clown closely to know he's creepy.

However,

I find it most interesting you genderizing thar clown; clowns come in all colors and genders...

Hmmm.

Some kind of personal clown fear, then?

Male clowns then?

Sex offender most likely.

Look, male repeat sexual offender should be cauterized, period.

P.P.S. Please notice the diff between *Faer Nothing blah#* and my more poetic version, kay? shiat. I fear the *guh, whuts*. I do. *Guh-Whuts* make robble-robble wrong, and robble-robble should be more funny than wrong, *guh-whuts*, more funny than wrong.
