Jamdug!: Yet, this news was released on April 1...

I think the April Fool's Joke is that people already paid 90 bucks for the updated editions on blu-ray

2012-04-01 02:42:23 PM
It wouldn't surprise me if he did. The man is a genius at squeezing more money out of people using the same 3 6 movies.

2012-04-01 03:04:28 PM
The only thing Lucas is guilty of is being very good at what he does. He only released widescreen/full screen of each version of the movie once for each format. (he even released the originals on DVD)

The three-d version was something he had been working on for a few years before the latest fad. Those can be considered another format because of 3D telivisions.

Hominy times did Blade Runner get released?

Yours for only $889.99!

I don't think Blade Runner has ever been released in grits format.

If only this was real. That might be enough to rekindle my enjoyment of the original trilogy. I just can't watch the touched up shiat with the patch work CGI. It hurts my tiny brain.

Now I'll never know who shot first. :(

it was Han

Star Wars: pure luck, good back end film doctoring team.
The Empire Strikes Back: Precision film making by professionals.
everything else: GARBAGE.

You forgot the actors who weren't afraid to point out when the script was absolute shiat and ad-lib something else instead.

Meh, even if he did, it'd be too little, too late. The new movies and slapdash editing jobs have at this point caused us to think hard about the original trilogy, realize it wasn't actually as good as we remember from being a kid, and move on to other things.

And as Harrison Ford said: "yes I said you can write this shiat, but you cant say it. Then he was nominated for the best screenplay."

Look, it's Star Wars movies. I love the franchise, but it ain't the best film i ever saw. (Being John Malchovitch)

Just like James Bond movies: it's judge by its relation to its other movies.

Got as far as the Holiday Special bit and remembered what day it was.

Remember: what Lucas did with the DVDs was to release the Sp Ed and then release the 3 films separately with their original versions. I'm expecting him to do the same thing with Blu-Ray as a way to cash in.

Anyone out there that actually prefers the Sp. Edititions?

I do, aside from the Greedo/Han scene.

I am still eagerly awaiting the OT original versions on BD though. I skipped buying the current BD release for the exact reason that George pulled the ole '"no I won't release the originals on DVD" and then a few months later does so' trick last media generation. I can wait; I don't want yet another version that he's shiat all over.

Bought the PT on BD though. I figure, those movies can use all the improvement they can get.

Even if the originals are released on bluray do you really think it won't be anything other than the laserdisc unconverted to dvd unconverted to bluray (with crappy 2 channel audio)?

Remains a distinct possibility. I can hope not, though.

Who cares? He's responsible for Star Wars. Something you people obviously care very much about. Big George had a hand in many of my favorite childhood memories (figuratively speaking, of course). And, for that, I thank him.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The original prints were destroyed, and literally all that remains are the special edition masters. The original was spliced to create the special edition, and original footage was lost. The newer movies were filmed in 1080p digitally, so while they'll be fine on Blu Ray, when 4k and better displays become available there will be not even be any masters to scan at higher resolutions. Carth is right, the best existing print of the original is the Laserdisc copy.

You can read the entire story here. It's long, but fascinating. Note that Google seems to have tagged the site as having malware recently, but I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

As do I. I just wish he'd quit farking with them. No one man is solely responsible for Star Wars, not even Lucas. And with every new edition with pointless edits, every shiatty prequel, every lame tie-in series, he takes it farther and farther away from those very childhood memories that you and I cherish. I just want him to stop, for our sake, and his own.

not true.

Richard Marquand was a Lucas cockpuppet from the get go, had zero say and knew nothing about FX, the genre or the "canon" and was hired to cross shots off a list.

David Lynch didn't direct because of this cockpuppetry.

It's also interesting to note that Lucas and Kershner were at odds about Empire years after it was released because Kershner made a film and not a Kenner Toys Commercial.

I'd like to know what dialogue in ROTJ was "ad libbed" because the dialogue in the entire movie is garbage. I'd also like to know the source for this balderdash, because it's well known that by the time ROTJ started filming, Lucas had made it clear that any changes would result in immediate dismissal.

He wasn't going to have another Empire on his hands.

ROTJ and everything after reflect this.

So..again, what dialogue was ad libbed in ROTJ?

..that's what i thought.

I don't think it was so much the ad libbing in any of the movies as the fact that Lucas lucked out and got actors who could totally sell stupid dialogue. Basically, Harrison Ford is a good enough actor to straight-face something completely retarded and play it as the character being lovable and a bit silly, and James Earl Jones could read Jabberwocky backwards while wearing his underwear on his head and it would still seem awesome and vaguely intimidating.

I know this casting was pure luck because, y'know, Hayden Christiansen and that dude from the sixth sense.

//And also somehow he god bad performances out of Macgregor and Neeson, who _are_ good actors.

Haven't purchased Star Wars movies since the VHS releases.

Not going to give him any money until we get the originals in HD, properly formatted and without the CG BS.

No shiat. I've seen some of the crap they cut out. If the editor hadn't been so merciless that movie would have bombed.

"Treadwell". *shudder*
