I think one of the reasons everyone like the Taker match is because deep down, we're all Taker marks. Hearing that "bong" makes me isntantly revert back to an 8 year old sitting in the stands, watching in awe as Taker came down the entrance ramp. I don't think any other wrestler can do that.

We make jokes, but that arena is in awe when the gong hits. I the last two WMs in Houston, notably 25, and the arena erupted for Stone Cold, for HBK's entrance, was so into that match, but when that gong hit, the fans went wild, then just went silent, it was crazy.

That's another reason I want to see the Undertaker gone.

He's an intro you pop for because you remember how cool it was when you were 12, and nothing more.

And let's be honest... Last night was just a shiatty spotfest with weapons and 15 minutes of "RING THE BELL/DON'T RING THE BELL" because that's all they could do after the first 5 minutes of the match.

Jim from Saint Paul: So now that I've had a night to process all this:

DB vs. Limes: 18 seconds? Your world title holder for months, MONTHS, goes down that quick? There is no point to this.

There was especially no point to this one, seeing as DB defended and held the belt against Mark Henry and Big Show... and kept it in the Elimination Chamber.

This match was all about Vince's ego. He couldn't have a "record setting match" title be for a brand that he killed off and he STILL missed the damn mark on that.

2012-04-02 12:37:23 PM

Praise Cheesus: HeartBurnKid: OK, so my thoughts:

* Sheamus/Bryan cast a pall on the evening that meant I cared about pretty much nothing until HIAC. Thanks for that, Vinnie. You couldn't trim 10 farking minutes from the Blandy Boreton match or the backstage bullshiat to actually give us a match here? You cheated us out of this match last year, and you did it again this year; why do you hate us?
* Taker/HHH was pretty decent. Not a technically great match, but they told the story well, and the right thing happened in the end. Taker looks really old.
* Punk/Jericho was match of the night, definitely.
* Rock/Cena was... really, really boring. The ending was a surprise, though; I was shocked to see Rock go over, and cleanly at that, and I'd like to see where this leads for Cena (hopefully to a heel turn).

Well, if there is one thing Vince obsesses on, it's "records" being set at Wrestlemania. What he was going for with the Bryan/Sheamus match was a new "shortest match" - the previous record for the shortest WM match for the WHC was at WM25 - Mysterio over JBL in 21 seconds. However, the shortest match for any championship was WM 24: Kane over Chavo Guerrero for the ECW title in 8 seconds.

JBL/Mysterio was for the IC title.

I'm not sure that alienating the fans that paid $65 in part because of their interest in one of the "main events" is a sound business idea. A lot of them (including in this thread and, by evidence of the chants, in the crowd) carried a chip on their shoulders through the first half of the event. Bad idea creatively, very bad idea financially and PR-wise.

2012-04-02 12:42:58 PM

Praise Cheesus: I'd like to think that the 10 seconds from the ring of the bell that it took Bryan to kiss AJ was his little "fark you" to Vince over the match booking.

If that somehow turns out to be true, that'd make me so happy.

RAW thread goes green at 8, in time for the HoF show (because dumb subby didn't bump back the start time in his headline an hour for that. But it all still works out.)

So, you want a record setting house show 4016 title change, you've got 7 hours!

And, here's some news from the sheets!

WWE is worried about the boring old guys who have dragged down ratings fot the last month leaving after Wrestlemania. So, they really want to get something done with Batista and Lesnar, because they always need an old guy to shiat all over everyone under the age of 40.

WWE officials are reportedly planning a lengthy World Heavyweight Title run for Sheamus, presumably followed by a loss in 4 seconds.

Trent Baretta left a tweet last night...

"This is the time of the year that you eat oysters until you realize that you don't like oysters."

Apparently, he has gastrointestinal issues from eating oysters.

The Flair deal may have happened in exchange for WWE letting one of their guys be a talking head on a TNA DVD release.

Jericho is already planning his summer Fozzy tour.

As much as I mark out for Undertaker, you're right. I really do think (and hope) that he'll call it quits this year. He's got his 20-0...time to fade away. Give him one last match at Summerslam or Survivor Series and that's that.

/Will be sad when he retires though

nbrfwhoooo: strangveyn

I think we can just chalk it up to Sting realizing that as big of a star as he may have been in WCW and now TNA, he has just never been good enough to be a real WWE top draw.

I agree and disagree. Sting doesn't have to be a weekly draw. He just needs to needs to stare down from the rafters at Taker or HBK and Vince has my money. I am sure he would have all of our money. I am sure Vince would have every. single. fan. of. wrestling's money. It would not be a wrestling match, I am aware of that. It would be a spectacle that as a fan I would like to see.

There is a shiat ton of money to be had with Sting in the WWF and I think Vince knows that. I don't think he hates Sting at all.

They had a very nice deal set up for him, supposedly. It was Sting who backed out of the negotiations. He'd rather be a big fish in a little pond than a medium sized fish in a big pond. It's a shame because he really owes himself the chance to walk out in front of 70,000 fans. Maybe the HoF deal with Flair will lead to a more open line of communication with TNA.

On a side note, I don't get the hate towards this event. It had a solid undercard. I wonder how much of it is irritation from the WHC match, how much is looking at past events with rose-colored glasses, and how much of it is just the usual "I could do better" attitude that comes with hindsight and a keyboard.

That's why I shouldn't rely completely on my memory. I thought it was for the WHC title.

Vince definitely did not think this through. Personally, I will never pay good money for another Wrestlemania as long as Vince has final creative control. I'll bet you next years buyrate for WM is the lowest ever. I will admit I was thoroughly disappointed in last night's show - so much so that I am considering boycotting first runs of WWE broadcast programming. I'm predicting a big drop off of the ratings for tonight's RAW.

Foley lives in Florida now, IIRC.

I don't think so. He lives somewhere in the Northeast, which is why his comedy shows are generally in or close to the area. He drives to most of them.

He may have a place in the Northeast (LI seems likely, to stay close to family), but as of the edition of Wife Swap he was on recently, he and his immediately family primarily live in Florida.

He retires at Wrestlemania and it's the last match of the night. The only question is whether it's WM29 or he holds out to WM30. Either event and they'll sellout the arena. No one is dumb enough to pass that gate up for a Survivor Series.

Praise Cheesus: WRESTLEMANIA POINTS COMPETITION (stolen from the brilliant bastard who did the RR)
1 point Piss break match: Team Tripping Balls vs. Glamzon/Eve - Kelly Kelly and Maria Menourous
2 point Poop break match: Randy Orton vs. Kane - Kane
3 point Embarrassment match: Cody Rhodes vs. Big Show - Big Show. By taking the belt from Cody, he will have held every WWE/WWF/WCW title.
4 point TWITTER RELATED question: Over or Under 10.5 video promos/backstage moments - Over. You have 8 matches. You have the build up videos and interview segments.
5 point YES YES YES match: Daniel Bryan vs. Great White - Sheamus
6 point Hold on a Minute player match: Team Teddy vs. The Ace Team - Team Ace, no matter how much we hate his style. Heel GMs make better programming.
7 point I'm going to text you the answer question: Name 1 survivor if they make it elimination, or name the person who gets the win (i.e. pinfall/submission) - Ziggler
8 point WRESTLEMANIA MOMENT question: What will be the highlight/big shock of the night? - Taker getting over HHH
9 point Tro-lo-lo match: CM Punk vs. Jericho - Jericho. This feud will run for a couple of PPV's, with Punk getting the belt back in June.
10 point Booked a Year Out Match: Rock vs. Cena - Rock. Cena will immediately demand a rematch at WM29.
100 point END OF OUR FUN ERA Match: Undertaker vs. HHH (because if you get this wrong, you don't deserve to win) - Taker

Possible: 155
My score: 139

The 8 doesn't count. The question was too vague and there's no agreement.

Oh, Hell no. Seriously, I see the fWc threads as our version of the "Caturday" threads - a nice little place for people to chill, have fun and not have to encounter the majority of trolls and AWs that inhabit this place. Even when I had an active TotalFark subscription, I avoided TFD like the plague. I belong to one of the Fark discussion groups on Facebook and I get enough exposure to the AWs there.

I thought the show was pretty good, mostly because it swerved me so many times (I thought HHH and Cena were going over).

But I don't get how you make your world title match your curtain jerker, and then squash the champ in 18 seconds. It doesn't make sense and reiterates how far WWE has gotten from wrestling (and me)

I watched the parts I missed last night and I was very disappointed by the Bryan squash. It made no damn sense to open the show that way. If you really want to do something like that, do it in the middle of the show.

Everything else I couldn't care less about until HIAC. And they did everything they wanted to do in that match. It was almost perfectly executed. Yes, HHH telling HBK to end the match was overdone. But for what they wanted to do- end an era- they did that very, very well. I think that ended up being the match of the night over Punk-Y2J.
