If you subtract the Ted Nugent crap, Dogtown and Z-Boys had a great soundtrack.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: CASEY KASEM'S AMERICAN TOP 40 - 3/25/78

Thank you for posting these charts every now and then.

There was a whole lotta lame-ass shiat back in those days. Which reminds me--author of TFA can fellate Saturday Night Fever all (s)he wants. Disco sucked then and still does.

I didn't mind disco or SNF when it first came out. Months later when McCartney and KISS and every other song on the radio had to have a disco beat I gave up on top 40 and switched to NPR and our local AOR-leaning country station and never looked back.

if you can stand it... (new window)

Loucifer: I can't believe this wasn't on the list. It won the Oscar for best soundtrack ever made.

Hmph...I didn't think Highlander even had a soundtrack album. I thought all the songs were just included on the Queen "Kind of Magic' album...

I've always been partial to the 'Return of the Living Dead' soundtrack.

ImmaculateContraception: Lost Highway.

Thought this was going to get missed. It's a *great* soundtrack.

Surprised no one mentioned "Until The End Of The World"

John Buck 41: [ecx.images-amazon.com image 300x300]

Missing from list.

Well, son of a biatch, I was damn near certain I was the only owner of that particular soundtrack. I even like all the main songs on there done by the complete unknowns. Also has a pretty good Fixx song on it, IIRC.

Missing from the list:

pump up the volume
The crow (previously mentioned, but the Henry Rollins song is crap..)

farkeruk: One thing about Scorsese's work is not just that he picks good songs, but how he uses them. Some of his most memorable moments, from Johnny Boy arriving in Mean Streets to De Niro deciding to whack everyone in Goodfellas, to finding the bodies are about the music accompanying them working in perfect harmony.

That's exactly why I can't stand Scorsese. In his later years he's so often been lazy, telegraphing emotions with song choices. They don't complement the story and action; they subsume and eclipse them. I respect Scorsese as a film historian (even if I find his style of speech excruciating), but he's become a bankrupt director.

aiiee: Surprised no one mentioned "Until The End Of The World"

It's a good one, but I prefer the mood on The End of Violence (also Wenders), which I'd mentioned earlier. Felt I had to choose on or the other.

edit: Meant to type "acting," not action. But both apply.

Absolutely shiatty movie with a great soundtrack - French Kiss.

I'm torn because I hate the movie, but Grease should be on the list.

And I don't care how much hipster cred this costs me, but Viva Las Vegas has an awesome soundtrack.

Hey Subby, Pointe is spelled with an "E" on the end. I grew up there, it's a bit of a touchy subject. Also that movie was awesome.

Filter and the crystal meth are enough to make a to 50 list alone. Wanted to add the crow and also wanted to say drive's soundtrack (as well as the movie) was awful. I can hit two keys on a keyboard too.

Another nod to Repo Man.

And also, Cruising w/ Al Pacino. Pretty underrated movie, EXTREMELY underrated soundtrack. William Friedkin had his finger on the pulse on the NY streets, for sure.

No love for The Wedding Singer? Practically every tune on that one conjures up a scene in the film, and it also simply plays as a love letter to the 80s.

FeedTheCollapse The whole movie reeked of "My First Art Film."

My friend won one of Ryan Gosling's 'hero' Scorpion racing jackets from picture wardrobe. Your argument is invalid.

Agreed.

Bonus: "Josie" was voiced in the songs by Kay Hanley (Letters to Cleo, Palmdale, etc.)

Bathia_Mapes: I love Goblin. IMHO, their soundtrack for Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) (new window) is even better than "Suspiria".

Oh, I'd include all of Goblin's soundtracks on my 10,000 item master list. I'd even place 'em near the top. They're all topnotch IMO.
Currently, I'm listening the most to their score from Nonhosonno (I Can't Sleep)/a> (new window)

runcible spork: How about a couple from Takemitsu?

Jose Torrés (new window)
Woman in the Dunes (new window)

Nice. Thanks for the introduction.

Another longtime fave is the score for Jodorowsky's "Santa Sangre" (new window)

The film is highly recommended too.

Ditto all around with:
The true version of "The Wicker Man" (new window).

Nope. Only option you have is DVD, I think. I still have my grainy VHS tape. :) I especially love the fact the movie pulls no punches at the end.
