The writing really hit their stride in Season 2, but its been a steady decline since then.

The more that was revealed about the Alterverse, the dumber it got, reaching peak shark-jump with the animated episode.

At this point, I really just want the series to end. I don't care how. It can only get me my Anna Torv sex tape that much sooner...

Why dont they cancel fringe? (besides the fact that its a great show)

Im willing to bet Anna Torv being Rupert Murdoch niece doesn't hurt.

10:1 its that she likes the show and the work and her uncle owns the entire network...

Murdoch and Torv's aunt have been divorced since 1999.

I'd have to look it up to be sure, but if I recall correctly DVR only affects ratings if the recorded program is viewed within 72 hours of being recorded.

That's because people found out the hard way it was back on, thanks to Fox not promoting it.

Doesn't mean he doesnt have a soft spot for a niece... They were married for 30 years, and if it isnt that Murdoch likes her its that she has dirt enough on him that he makes phone calls to the right people for her.

Thank you! If I came home and found her looking the way she does in the second to last picture, we would never leave the house.

I'd like to see Grimm, Fringe, and Alcatraz all canceled. They have low ratings for good reason, and chances are whatever replaces them will be better.

Carth: All the principles said they want a 15 episode season 5 to wrap it up. If it ends with this season we won't get any real closure.

That works for me, actually.

A final season a la chuck so they can get their shiat in order.

the last episode was awesome and over the top, but it still doesn't justify this whole season so far.

I hope the season finale includes Fringe team vs. an army of flying porcupine monsters like Wizard of Oz.

Now that the Peter/Olivia thread is tied up, and the previews are showing more B-Universe shenanigans, DRJ is back in the fold, shapeshifters are back and the show seems to be picking up threads from the early season...

I love it! Season 5 please.

fusillade762: Carth: T-Servo: fusillade762: I would have thought the prevalence of DVRs these days would end the Kiss of Death that is a Friday night timeslot?

Do they take that into account when computing ratings?

Yes they do keep track of +7 ratings for DVRs but for some reason advertisers are less interested in how many people DVR shows and fast forward through commercials.

Are they unaware that even when watching "live" you can still FF through commercials if you simply pause the playback at some point? Or does the simple act of hitting FF disqualify you as a "live" viewer? Genuinely curious.

It gets kind of tricky at that point. The ratings numbers are calculated during commercial breaks, which is why you often hear things adjusted up and down when shows run over, so if you start watching 15 minutes late to fast forward you won't be counted for the first two breaks but you would for the last 3. Unless you're a nielsen household it wouldn't really matter but as I understood it you are only counted as a partial viewer since you didn't see the whole show.

/going by what tvbythenumbers say anyone in the industry please correct me

I love David Robert Jones episodes because I keep thinking of Lane Pryce from mad mad and getting knocked out by his old father when he introduced him to his black mistress.

I realize you probably think I was just trolling, but I really wasn't. I love me some good sci-fi. But, reality is that the major networks don't allocate many time slots for sci-fi, and I'd rather they try again instead of sticking with a so-so show.

There. FTFY.

There's scifi on TV, but shows that aren't actually just dumb premises-- shows that actually build a mythology and have a long-term story arc? Those are a bit more rare.

I mean, technically, half of the fluff on the CW and NBC is science fiction. But just because something is science fiction doesn't mean it's intelligent, good, or worth watching.

If you want good, campy sci-fi, you should check out "Lost Girl" on SyFy. And a big plus; three extremely hot chicks.

100 Watt Walrus: Had they picked up where they left off, with the two universes having to work together to save both, that could have made for a great season. After building all that mythology, it's a real let-down for them to go back to monster of the week with a mythology coda most weeks.

They explained in the first episode that Peter's (who no longer existed) creating the bridge between the two worlds stabilized the universes. They don't need to "fix" the universes as much as keep it stable from future attacks, which is what DRJ is particularly good at.

It's trolling to give the full story?

The headline treats matching Grimm's ratings like it's some kind of triumph, when all it meant was Grimm is sliding into the shiatter. Also, there was no judgment, nothing blatantly inflammatory, just a link to the ratings numbers for Friday night, the headline of which said "Grimm hit series lows".

If that is trolling to you, you seriously have no clue what trolling is.

I know what trolling is: it's what you do in every Fringe thread (and other Fox threads that have nothing to do with Fringe), which is just incredibly sad.

So, a Bones thread about the show being renewed (which would have inevitably led to "Y NO FRINGE RENUED?") and mentioning Grimm's bad ratings in this thread is now trolling every thread.

You have very low standards for the definition of trolling.

Exactly why this season has been such a dreadful bore. They built all this momentum, then just abandoned it all with a throw-away explanation that disregarded why Peter brough the two universes together in the first place (to force them to work together to save both). Whether or not he's there, that's what they seemed to be setting up in last season's finale. A "just kidding" in episode one of this season doesn't change the fact that they blew a potentially great storyline for largely aimless and routine MoW plots this year.
