That's weird, all the ones that caused a ruckus in the US were the result of conservatives believing everything they read on the Internet without bothering to check their facts. Huh.

I remember the articles about Congress holding people hostage and the one about threatening to leave DC unless lavished with perks because they were so believable.

"Congress passes law requiring US citizens to buy health insurance"

"Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over'"

Oh, wait...that one was true.

As for the funniest, it's got to be "fark Everything, We're Doing Five Blades"

Meh. My girlfriend at the time went into a rant when she saw the "Pope bans 7 new organs, brings total number of sinful organs to 18" headline.

Hah. My normally tech-saavy friend fell for the Apple MacBook Wheel.
He showed me the video, and was all like, "Can you believe what Apple is doing?" while I'm quietly chuckling.

Finally, a third tweet gave the game away, linking to a short blurb about Congressmen taking children hostage in the Capitol and threatening to shoot one per hour until they received $12 trillion in cash.

The Onion's tweets resulted in an investigation by Capitol police regarding the legality of posting such comments on Twitter. They also released a statement assuring the public it was not true and that "conditions at the U.S. Capitol are currently normal."

Now when you say "normal".... are you trying to support or refute this report that Congressmen are holding hostages? I need some clarification here.

In terms of it being satirical by virtue so obviously the thing to do, and yet being debated, I agree.

"That's not the kind of world I want my children to grow up in."

That... that hurts :(

This one: Link (new window)

got a few people in my town of Galesburg. The local papers comment section is always so full of derp it's insane. Poe's Law level derp. Currently they are all defending the whole Trayvon Martin shooting.

"Antiliberal: Mike, well said. He shouldn't be charged with manslaughter as LA Woman states if he was simploy defending himself with deadly force as the law allows.

Again, this article injects racism into the issue where there is only evidence of it NOT being a racism issue."

sass, that's very strange that you think only criminals should be able to carry and use guns for whatever purpose (they don't care about laws) while innocent civilians defending themselves such as Zimmerman should be vulnerable with no way to protect themselves. People should have every right to defend themselves and their property.

sass, there were no racial slurs and profiling used by Zimmerman. You liberals have repeatedly stated that the kid would still be alive if he wasn't black. Zimmerman, not the media or law enforcement, is the one who shot the kid in self defence, which apparently is supported by witnesses.

Making calls to the police to report suspicious people does not make anyone guilty of wrong doing. The kid was found to have been using drugs. People do crazy things when they are on drugs, so it wouldn't surprise me for anyone under the influence of drugs to attack someone.

Also, Zimmerman was known to give his time and money in support of black youths and a predominentlhy black church. Sure doesn't sound like a racist guy to me. But the liberals and media will spin the situation for all they can get out of it.

The liberals and others jumping in the race card are making Zimmerman the victim."

Following a suspicious person in your neighorhood doesn't make you a criminal, regardless of what the police have said. Just like calling to report a suspicious person isn't a crime either. Zimmerman claims self defense, and there has to be proof beyond a reasonable doubt to convict him of breaking the law. It sounds like you have already convicted him when you don't know the facts because you get sucked into the liberal spin and drink the Kool-aid.

It is indeed scary that a bunch of racist thugs has put a bounty on George Zimmerman.

Hey g-88 - Obama could convince me he is not obviously thinking Zimmerman is the guilty party by decrying this illegal and racist act. What he said about Trayvon Martin is a very small step from what he said about the Cambridge Police Department. It was racially tinged and very obvious in suggesting what he thinks happened.

Obama should have kept his mouth shut in the first place, but as he has now inserted the opinion of the President of the United States into a local criminal and legal event, he is obligated to denouce the prejudice and racism his earlier statement has engendered.

Bottom line is: We still don't know what happened. Zimmerman may have followed and confronted Martin, or Zimmerman may have turned away and retreated and Martin may have then followed and confronted him.

In any event, the local investigation should proceed without the racially, emotionally, and legally loaded inputs and opinions of the President of the United States.

Have a nice day.

f I saw someone suspicious outside my home in a gated community, I would get out there and keep an eye on him also. As long as he didn't charge me, I wouldn't pull the hair trigger though. Zimmerman was supposedly acting in self defense. Since the kid had been doing drugs, it wouldn't surprise me if he charged Zimmerman. It's amazing how much race is brought up over this single instance, when all Zimmerman's history would indicate he is not racist and is quite compassionate for the black community.

This is all true and VERY sad.......BUT what time of day did this happen????? Why was this young man not in school??? Was this his residentual niehborhood???? I'm not takeing sides with anyone in this case it is wrong what happened. What is rite? What is wrong? What is justice? What is peace? I really wish that everyone would stop trying to make this out as a hate crime and to keep stirring the pot!!

Once again, the press and the black community jumped the gun and convicted someone just because they thought it was a racial issue. Even our low life President convicted Zimmerman without knowing the facts. But then again that is how he rolls!

and why do we need an overblown racial incident now? Because the people trying to reelect obama want to again make NOT voting for him a sign of racism.

. and they want to motivate obama's core base, the Blacks, to come out in large numbers to vote for obama in spite of the fact obama's economic policies have been especially hard on the Black community.

I'm amused by the fact that this is a link posted by a news aggregator of a blog posting about news organizations commenting on a fake news source. How much deeper can we go? Should we tweet a link to this thread, and then post that tweet to Facebook?

Surprises me that people would necessarily take what they read on the internet seriously at all.

For instance, with something like http://literallyunbelievable.org (new window) , if I were to respond to a friend's posting of an Onion article on a Facebook wall, I might sarcastically pretend to find the article serious.

Those that assume that the Facebook postings themselves aren't satirical are possibly guilty of the same as what they are attempting to expose.
