SiriusXM's AltNation was spinning some acoustic stuff from them for a while when the album first dropped. She seems like she's pretty legit as far as natural singing ability goes. I bet she could pull of Tenderness.

/Civil Wars too seem like they'd be good in that setting

Lauryn Hill's Unplugged was pretty awesome, too. Full of crazy, sure, but as a progression from Miseducation and an indication of things to come (that have yet to come) it was fascinating.

I also had no idea she could play guitar so well.

This is relevant to my interests.

Dear Subby,

MTV stands for Merchandising TeleVision and originally started as a version of Skymall magazine for those too stupid to read.

Considering the talent level of most bands that fit the Mtv demographic these days, this was probably the best case scenario. They're one of a handful of currently popular bands that can play an acoustic set and not embarrass themselves.

7th Son of a 7th Son: Nothing will ever top AIC's Unplugged. Over Now was haunting yet beautiful.

No argument there though I really enjoyed Arrested Development's show and Unplugged more or less made Stone Temple Pilots a household name.

Weiland sitting in that rocking chair is one of the most enduring images from early 90's pop culture.

No, she isn't all that attractive. She actually made it on talent, amazing in the days of autotune we know.

I put that with Nirvana for the best of. I think both shows were great, Layne and Kurt's vocals are wonderful. My only problem with AiC is Jerry Cantrell doesn't seem to know how to play an acoustic guitar. He tries to play it like an electric and on "Down in a Hole" he hits some sour notes in the solo.

I'd put "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?" as the best song ever on Unplugged.

2012-03-31 07:59:36 PM
And Josh Homme makes everything better. There's a live take of "Crawl Home" from the Jools Holland show that smokes the studio version. Hands does the bass line and destroys Jeordie White's version. It's on YouTube. Too lazy to Google.

I'm hoping that stuff from the second album sounds better unplugged than it did on the album. It was pretty disappointing compared to the first album.

Please. Nirvana's was awful - the show was full of sour notes, instrumentally and vocally. Even Pat Smear couldn't help.

For best, I would go with SRV, STP, or Queensryche

Yes, yes, yes.

Also, Nirvana and Pearl Jam were awesome, and I'm not much for rap, but LL Cool J (new window) was the shining star of Unplugged. Absolutely the most amazing transition to acoustic. Best performance on that show bar none.

AIC = Alice In Chains. Hit it big in the 90's. Them and Soundgarden were the 2 best to come out of Seattle, IMHO.

Bah. I know who Alice in Chains is. They just don't get any airtime now adays, and I wasn't a big music person in the 90's (or truth be told a big Alice fan period, just not my sound), so it's not stored in my mental rolodex. Thanks for the answer though.

Considering she wasn't actually unplugged when she recorded the set, and she also had to start over on several tracks after farking up, this show doesn't seem worth the time of day.

agreed. Lungs has some duds on it, but overall it's quite a powerful yet fun record. Ceremonials seems to moved into the pop diva direction with its sweeping hooks and big production style. It's not my cup of tea, but I can understand why people like it. I've made an edited version of it from the deluxe version, and as an 8 song album it is quite strong.
