This list fails without Rush. And I'm not even a big rush fan.

Who is Katie Bush?

Seriously. This list is terrible even by Cracked standards.

The Cars aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? That's stupid.

Also, list fails without Rush.

The rock world would be a very different place if early on, the three members of Rush had had a conversation with someone where they said: "All you do is sing what we tell you to sing. You don't write, you don't talk to the press, and you sure as hell don't play an instrument. During frequent and extended solos, you will politely excuse yourself and lurk off-stage."

A lot of people just can't get past the screechy vocals, and even big fans admit that you kind of have to look past the vocals to get to the good stuff.

They both deserve to be in, not one or the other.

The top three bands who have had the most consecutive platinum selling records are in order:

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Rush

That Rush is not in the Hall of Fame is farking ridiculous. I know people are sick of these Rush Not in HOF threads, but the topic is very valid.

You mean the shiatty band with the third highest number of consecutive Gold album releases, behind only the Beatles and the Rolling Stones?

Motherfarker, 12 seconds. And it's gold only, not platinum. I think Hold Your Fire is the only non-plat.

Covered in 1.
Peter Gabriel was a surprise. Because acts such as these have not yet been included, RR HoF is not relevant and, IMO, never will be.

Also, TFA headline: 5 People Cheated Out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
You're using that word incorrectly.

According to the Wiki, it is both:

Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band.

The Monkees

No arguments with 5, 4, and 2. 3 and 1, OTOH.....

Peter Gabriel I can see for some of the early Genesis stuff. His solo stuff is hit-or-miss. On par with another mid-to-late 80s guy.....Robert Palmer.

/Go-go's. Pixies, and They Might Be Giants, pls.

2012-03-30 01:16:54 PM
I've been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and, it actually kind of sucks. There are some awesome exhibits, such as Elvis Presley's Cadillac, and a few of the Ramones' guitars, but there is an entire floor dedicated to The Doors, and an exhibit on Madonna! Plus, it costs a band or an artist $25,000 to be inducted, so naturally, Cheap Trick has denied the request to be inducted. Next time I'm in Cleveland, I'll just check out the Great Lakes Brewery and Progressive Field instead.

I agree Jethro Tull really needs to get in before he dies. It is just too bad Steely Dan got in posthumously.

He mentioned Rush specifically, as well as saying "these aren't the only people that have been snubbed."

Rush is so obvious, perhaps, that he discussed some others for once.

Serious Black: Apart from the obvious omission of Rush, how the hell has KISS been kept out after 11 years of eligibility?

I agree with Wenner's snobbery on this front; KISS is almost exclusively a novelty act. They have so few songs that show any significant musicianship, I'm not sure that without the schtick they would have ever gone anywhere. They're an unrehearsed version of Thin Lizzy, musically. They didn't represent a new movement (like the Sex Pistols) nor have they improved with age.

They've made it to reality television, and that's all those guys ever wanted: cash. Respect is for starving artists, I can hear Gene Simmons saying.

2012-03-30 01:20:16 PM
Is Rick Astley eligible yet? When will the injustice of his exclusion be fixed.

2012-03-30 01:20:47 PM
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is pointless without Link Wray.

For Link so loved the world, he gave us the power chord.

The man did more with one lung than most people do with two.

Agree with the first point. Second point is an obvious troll and a cue to post Kate Bush pics (like this one).
3.bp.blogspot.com

Not that I care about who gets into the R&R HOF and who doesn't but Kate Bush will be eventually elected. There are too few women in the Hall and she was a major influence on a generation of female artists. As for Rush, I'm afraid Jann Wenner is going to have die first before that happens.

They also got a hell of a lot of kids, including, most likely, some bands you listen to, to pick up instruments. They deserve some recognition just for that alone.

2012-03-30 01:32:10 PM
The Monkees as a band and Mike Nesmith as a solo artist. That is all.

"Functionally retarded forest metaphors" = Rush, The Trees

Functionally literate forest metaphors = Jethro Tull, Bungle in the Jungle

Got it.

2012-03-30 01:34:17 PM
Cars? Nah. Not varied enough repetoire. Good band, though.

I appreciate the argument for Jethro Tull, but I would choose the Moody Blues, simply for Days of Future Passed.

Jeff Lynne/ELO? Nothing Queen didn't do better.

Peter Gabriel for solo work? Yeah, you could make that argument.

2012-03-30 01:35:32 PM
Also, Link Wray not being in is a goddamn travesty. If not for what that man did on guitar rock music as we know it would've ended up sounding very, very different. Also, Dick Dale should be in there too.

Not sure, but I don't believe fake bands qualify.

With Rush having won so many other recognitions, it would be very cool if they got a nod from the Kennedy Center Honors (new window) BEFORE the RnRHOF. Eventually the RnRHOF would look even more stupid for blowing them off.

They've already recognized Bruce, The Who, Paul McCartney, Tina, among other musical greats.
