Since when has it been a bad thing to paint the Marine Corps in a positive light? Maybe in her next video, Katy Perry can be spurned by a man and then go to a liberal arts graduate school.

paygun: Remember, the left doesn't hate the military!

This is how the right honors our veterans:

GOP Congressman Joe Walsh today slammed his opponent Tammy Duckworth's military service. Walsh told Politico, "What else has she done? Female, wounded veteran ... ehhh." Duckworth served as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in Iraq in 2004, and lost her legs and part of the use of her right arm. She was awarded the Purple Heart for her combat injuries and is still active as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Illinois National Guard. Link (new window)

That's why unlike the right they were against pissing the lives of military men away in Iraq for no godamned good reason. Because they hate them.

Actually, just like with those on the right, a majority politicians on the left in the U.S. approved war resolutions in 2002, supported continuing the war and Guantánamo camps in 2005, and voted to keep funding the war in 2007.

So yeah, they were so against pissing the lives of military men away they kept voting alongside Republicans in favor of funding continued fighting.

Trying to use funding to force the President to withdraw troops from conflict is dangerous, often unsuccessful, and political suicide as well. It's been true ever since Roosevelt sent the Navy around the world even though Congress tried to resist by refusing to provide enough fuel...so Roosevelt sent the ships with what they had and if Congress wanted them back they had to pay up.

So your ideas have been tried and have failed.

Wat?

You mean, the over 100 guys, from all levels of Sen. Kerry's own unit, who pointed out that, after four months of in-country service , Kerry ran back to the States and accused all his comrades, at all levels, of committing war crimes routinely? And did so in front of Congress, on national television? Then, years later, tried to wrap himself in the flag and his "band of brothers" on the campaign trail, while pointing to his framed medals--those medals he supposedly threw away at a protest in the 1970s?

You're saying those guys didn't have a legitimate issue?

2012-03-30 11:16:58 PM
Dear Stupid Feminazi Writer,

It may have escaped your attention but the world at large doesn't buy into your very out-of-touch sanitized daydream of how the world should be. Without the military, you'd most likely still be property of some man, most likely a foreign man, speaking a language other than english, and not able to have the freedom to spout your thoughts as you please, no matter how poorly thought out they are. Saying things like this sets back gender equality by hundreds of years as supposedly you are intelligent, but convey thoughts so poorly even the most intelligent men no doubt are thinking "wow, women are so f***ing stupid" after reading your words.

It also seems to have escaped your notice, but if we just up and disbanded the Armed Forces, very bad things would happen. Especially to you, specifically. It's those dreadful Armed Forces and Law Enforcement that stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves like WOMEN and children, especially ones who don't bother thinking about what they say and are rather vocal about it and draw notice. Do you really think there's another spot in the world that does it better than America? Some other place without an armed force where you enjoy these rights?

It's fine and dandy to rail against policy and policy-makers. THOSE are the people who direct the military. THOSE are the people who make decisions. THOSE are the people who force our young men and women to fight, regardless if those fights are well-founded or not. There is no shame doing violence when you must. Serving does not 'glorify' violence. You must stand for what you believe in because the world is filled with people and nations that will gladly trample all over you and your ideal happy shiny nation without an armed force to deter them and ensure liberty and freedom of the future generations. The world is full of people who would gladly make you a sex slave, take away all your rights, and relegate you to something worse than property. In case you've failed to learn a single thing about history or current events world peace has not broken out. Those people you're railing against are all that stand for your right to stay ignorant, say stupid things, and not have to think before you run your mouth and those tyrants who'd gladly remind you with a bullet to the head that you cannot stand up for yourself against aggressive and armed evil men.

For someone who supposedly wishes for the empowerment and equality of the female, you sure pick strange targets since the Armed Forces are one of the places who give women positions that support that philosophy and give women who have nothing not only a skillset, but a promise of a better life through education. You are disgustingly ignorant, shamefully stupid, and don't deserve the rights and freedoms these people bled and died to ensure you have. They are better than you in every regard.

To miss Perry, I've never heard your music or seen this video, but thank you for at least realizing that those who serve should be respected.

To those who serve, thank you for your service and sacrifice on my behalf and behalf of all who benefit. You are liberty and freedom.

I can kind of undestand in 2002 and even in 2005 any congressman voting for anything military because if you didn't the "X hates America" ads would be non stop. The right are still running that play after Obama brought Iraq to an end (kinda) stepped up operations in Afghanistan and in Pakistan that got Bin Laden and with the help of pussy Democrats kept the prison in Guantanomo open after Obama tried to close it. The right criticised Obama for intervening in Libya, something I'd never have believed if I hadn't seen that resulted in Khadaffi dead.

And this is coming from me a former military service person the right is supposed to honor, unless you are like John Kerry then your service just isn't good enough.

This part is a lie, "Kerry ran back to the States and accused all his comrades, at all levels, of committing war crimes routinely? "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_Soldier_Investigation
"When future Senator John Kerry, then a decorated Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve (Inactive), later spoke before a Senate Committee, he explained, "We who have come here to Washington have come here because we feel we have to be winter soldiers now. We could come back to this country; we could be quiet; we could hold our silence; we could not tell what went on in Vietnam, but we feel because of what threatens this country, the fact that the crimes threaten it, not reds, and not redcoats but the crimes which we are committing that threaten it, that we have to speak out.[14]

That statement does not accuse "all his comrades, at all levels, or committing war crimes", which makes you a damned dirty low down liar. Took no time at all to find either, so you really have no excuse.
Oh, and just for you being a smear artist, another quote from the link, "Since the first day of the WSI event and for more than thirty years since, individuals and organizations have sought to discredit or at least minimize the painful revelations brought forth at that event. Critics have claimed that participants were frauds; that they were told to not cooperate with later investigators; that their testimonies were inaccurate or just plain fabricated.[18] To date, no records of fraudulent participants or fraudulent testimony have been produced."
I will now go favorite you as "liar".

Dammit, went the article about this video got posted my comment was "Propaganda video for the marines."

I farking hate it when Naomi Wolf and I agree on something. Though I take some solace in that this is roughly equivalent to observing the sky is blue, and I'm certainly not calling for boycotting Perry.

In her book The Beauty Myth, Wolf claimed that the black turtleneck sweater had become an iconic fashion statement because it reflects men's desire to strangle women. How farking crazy is that? No, it's not because memetic sex goddess Audrey Hepburn popularized them, it's because all men want to choke the shiat out of women. Just admit it guys, that's what you want!

Wolf is a crazy idiot and one of the worst things to ever happen to feminism. Modern feminism is a complete joke primarily because of Wolf and Judith Butler, but at least with Butler she can use the defense that nobody understands what the fark she was saying and misapplies her theories. Wolf has devoted her entire career to saying the stupidest shiat imaginable in clear and precise prose.

Prior to this, I strongly suspected that Naomi Wolf was a dipshiat. She has now removed all doubt.

LOL at the guy acting as though SBVT actually had a case. They were a political smear campaign, nothing more. No one with an IQ out of the double digits fell for it.

The second of their advertisements--Sellout--featured comments, taken out of context, from John Kerry's 1971 Senate Testimony interspliced with comments from other veterans. The advertisement opened with a brief excerpt featuring Kerry stating "soldiers had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads ..." and then cuts to veteran Joe Ponder: "The accusations made against the veterans who served in Vietnam was just devastating."

The advertisement omitted the beginning of Kerry's sentence, which referred to what had been said by veterans themselves at a meeting in Detroit as part of the Winter Soldier Investigation. The transcript of Kerry's evidence included him telling the committee that at the Detroit meeting "many very highly decorated veterans testified to war crimes committed in Southeast Asia" and relived the "absolute horror of what this country, in a sense, made them do."

"They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country," Kerry said. [37][38]

On its website, the SBVT sidesteps addressing what were specific statements of veterans, instead portraying Kerry's comments as being against all Veterans. "For more than thirty years, most Vietnam veterans kept silent as we were maligned as misfits, addicts, and baby killers. Now that a key creator of that poisonous image is seeking the Presidency we have resolved to end our silence."

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (new window)

I guess to some people, talking openly about war crimes our forces committed is un-American?

RoyBatty: The video does come off entirely like a vehicle for Marine recruiting.

Well I do think it's fair to ask how many taxpayer dollars went into the making of this video and what budget the Marines used to pay for the various vehicles and other assets in this video.

And yes, I'd pay to see a CGI four way between Private Perry, GI Jane, Private Vasquez and Private Benjamin

Not that big a deal. It is like a fly over at a football game. The pilots need to to log so many flight hours anyway so they just end up having to do it on a Sunday. The crews of those Amphibious Assault vehicles got some training time in.

Whatever extra cost it was a lot cheaper than a recruiting commercial cost and probably reached a wider market.
