I've always wanted to do this. Damn my company and its refusal to let us incorporate a loop in the test track.

Basically just ensure you're at a certain speed when you hit a certain checkpoint. If you're not, steer away from the loop and don't enter. Otherwise just go, apply power, and let physics do the work.

/my biggest fear would be shoddy loop construction
//NASCAR would be improved with the introduction of this

I remember playing that game. Or something similar- yours looks a bit different.

What was the name again?

I also used to play the hell out of it.

Hard Driving.
And their screenshot looks like an emulated/ROM version. The proper one is posted just above your post.
/spent way too much money on that game as a kid.

Thaknks. Yeah, I remember that was a damn popular game at the arcade. If you got a shot at it, you weren't leaving for awhile.

There was one for the Amiga called "4d Driving" (aka "Stunts"). You could build your own tracks.

/And we need to get the band back together.

The largest loop the loop in a car measured 12.87 m (42 ft 2.69 in) in diameter

Really? Here's a Ford Tempo (!) making a loop that looks much larger than that. (new window)

It was kind of scary watching the supporting struts of the loop break off as the car hit the ramp on the way up and presumably on the way down. I think that they were the sounds of bolts snapping.

Yeah, I had Stunts for the PC. Making tracks was the best part. The racers that all the downforce could run on the top of the tube for the entire length of the map... exiting was the only problem.

The Lambo LM was great fun to try and destroy.

Oooo! A 'high-swirl' combustion engine.... wtf were the (m)ad men smoking back then...

I mean, I know it's a knock-prevention method, but it's gonna sound made up to anyone who isn't a gearhead/mech. eng.

/Also, I doubt Ford brought in the GWR people for a Tempo commercial (as awesome as it was)

Was anyone else a miffed that they included 30 different camera angles, but not one shot from the driver's perspective?

Yep. That's Broderbund's "Stunts". I think I still have my copy somewhere (not that I have a PC capable of running it). I spent hours building tracks on that game as a kid. You can download it for free now from the looks of things.
