What's outrageous about cops arresting a thief? Who cares how old he is? Too bad they didn't smack him a few times to learn him up.

and an owner who cared enough to record them. that's rare, i think most folks have that on their short term memory get to list and it falls between the cracks.

Good! Teach the little thief early I say! You can get away with it, you just gotta be more careful dammit!

The kid should have been pepper sprayed and tasered before being cuffed. He no longer of any worth to society and should be jailed for 40 years. Okay done with the jokes. The cops did the right thing. The kid now knows even IF he didnt steal it himself he cant claim stuff that he does not own his & lie about it to the police. Hopefully this keeps him on a good path and no longer have to desire to do this again.

Worst case would have been giving him a slap on the wrist tell him that was bad and have him do it all over again because something else shiny caught his eye. The next house could have a very angry man with a steal pipe or gun in it, all with a desire to kill and a obsession with his stuff not being touched.

You have to do what you can to make everyone a second class citizen as soon as possible so they don't get all these "rights" that they always complain about.

2012-03-29 10:34:29 AM
Funny thing is, if you want your kid to have a REAL tricycle (or bicycle), not some plastic POS made in China one, it's going to cost you. Maybe not 400 bucks, but still.

A 10-year-old boy was charged with felony burglary after he allegedly stole a $400 tricycle.

I'm more outraged that stealing a bike is a farking felony. Remember when felonies were only serious crimes like murder and rape?

I say the former, since honestly, with the Pimp My Ride mentality we've taken as of late, I can see a $400 trike happening.

Because our nation doesn't give kids a free pass for stealing is why we have debt? Really?

It is probably because of how much the bike cost. Once you steal something over a certain dollar amount it becomes a felony. But the real question is can a 10 year old be charged with a felony?

Having worked at a bike shop, this is exactly true. Those things aren't cheap.

the felony isn't for stealing the tricycle, it is for burglary of an occupied dwelling

Why is that outrageous. They were trying to scare him. Hopefully it works. As to the tric, it sounds like an adult one. Easily could be $400.

Kids always have skittles. He would have been as good as dead the minute he tried to run away into a yard.

Probably. The story didn't include a quote from the outraged mother about how she was going to sue, so I'd guess she consented to it.

While the police should have been on the scene, there was absolutely no reason to initiate felony proceedings against a farking 10 yr old. Think about that a felony rap just because the kid wanted the shiny tricycle. The cop should have recovered the trike, returned it to its owner, made the kid apologize, took the kid to his mother, explained the situation and let the kid get his ass beat.

Anything else is overkill and a waste of money and court resources...geesh what a bunch of nanny-staters

Am I the only one surprised that a 10 year old think it's okay to steal?

The thought never, ever occurred to me when I was growing up - could the kid be imitating somebody he knows well?

/ Come to think of it, any farkers here that stole as a kid?

Most kids steal at some point. I only did it once, but everyone else I've talked to stole a hell of a lot more than that.

It's not fair that my kid cannot just take your bike, air rifle, phone, ipod, fishing rods, dog, scooter etc..... without facing police charges.

They make it sound like it's stealing.

Kids under 16 should be allowed to take any item out of your house and not face any repercussions

As a person with balance problems, I've looked into getting a trike for errands and commuting. The only thing that has prevented me from buying one is the extremely high cost.

Lighten up Francis - the kid was arrested, he won't be charged, and he won't go to court. You know, being arrested is NOT the same thing as being charged, tried and/or convicted (and no, I don't care if the article said "charged" - cops don't charge, the DA does). Pet peeve of mine that some people act like the cops are the DA and/or the courts; and that being arrested is the same as being charged.

What is outrageous, is a bicycle turning into a tricycle.

A woman on Shannon Court reported that while she was in her home someone walked into her garage and took her bicycle and her son's air rifle, according to a Fort Walton Beach Police report.

An officer found the tricycle a few streets over and asked the 10-year-old boy about it.

What kind of parent doesn't teach a kid how to Dremel the serial numbers off a bike? That's just bike-stealing 101.

BurnShrike: Most kids steal at some point. I only did it once, but everyone else I've talked to stole a hell of a lot more than that.

When I was a kid I stole the occasional candy bar from the 7/11 or small toy from K-Mart. Once, I stole a nudie mag from a newsstand.

I would never have gone into someone else's garage and stolen a high-ticket item like a bike or trike.

Even thieves can have morals.

when i was a teenager, my friends would boost bikes from the impound yard at the sheriff's department when they needed parts.
