60% of the time Anchorman is hilarious every time

I would like to thank Ron Burgundy for coming up with the term "dirty pirate hooker"...because it perfectly describes the pirate show outside Treasure Island in Vegas.

/Hope the movie takes place during the 80s.

"QUOTE FROM THE MOVIE!"

I liked all these golden age comedies lacking sequels. Ferrell talked of stepbrothers 2 as well. What else is there to tell, really? I liked McKay movies just moving from one concept to the next. Talladega, Anchorman, Other Guys - these are all completely different settings and characters yet theyre totally farking hilarious.

Usually sequels, like milk, are a bad choice. Not in this case though. Can't wait.

Trying to think of one instance in which I thought Will Farrell was funny. Not succeeding. And I can clearly remember laughing at Adam Sandler one time.

I'm posting on Fark so Will Ferrell sucks and Bill Hicks is automatically President.

Not sure I understand the hate for Ferrell; some bombs, for sure, but a few hilarious outings, Anchorman being the best of the lot.

I agree wholeheartedly. If you don't like Anchorman, you just don't understand absurdist humour (or, you think British comedy is funnier than it really is. NOTE: Before you flip out about that, keep in mind that I love That Mitchell and Webb Look (Sir Digby Chicken Caesar being one of the finest creations of all time, AND the classics like Fawlty Towers).

I find it amusing, really, because to me Anchorman was very "British" in its absurdism, but just cranked the levels, played with a perfect deadpan delivery.

I love Anchorman way too much but I just can't imagine they are going to do a good job with this. Ferrell hasn't made a REALLY funny movie since then, IMO. And the rest of the news team had better sign on because they all owned that movie.

Yeah, because making a sequel to a well loved movie is not just a terrible thing, it will also completely ruin the first movie. Also, I love lamp.

There was a whole second disc of Anchorman material that they released on a limited edition DVD.
They should just put that out.

This.

Anchorman was funny. But after that, Ferrell movies have become the same character with different sideburns. It's like Adam Sandlers stuff. It's all the same "NOOOOOOO" screaming sans a couple of decent films scattered in. Grown Ups and Just Go With It were funny and different. I had hope that as he got older, his shiat would get better.

Then I saw the promo for Jack and Jill, and I remembered why I wanted him to die.

It reminded me of having actually spent the 10 bucks to go see The Love Guru. I did demand my money back, b/c I told them I had saw the same lame dick jokes in the other Austin Power movies, and didn't need to see a fourth.

I'll pass on Anchorman 2.

Will Ferrel is funny when he doesn't go overboard on the acting and yells through the movie. I thought he was excellent in "Stranger Than Fiction". He needs to do more movies which shows his range.

2012-03-29 09:00:04 AM
I dunno, how many sequels to comedies don't completely suck? Even a good comedy is really at its best in the first 45 minutes. There are exceptions of course but it is somewhat of a tautology.

Having bought that on ebay and watched it all of twice over the past 4-54 years, I can attest to the fact that it should be left on the cutting room floor.
Didn't fit and didn't work.

Did you see Everything Must Go? Good flick with more dramatic turn for Ferrell.

Yup.

Look, obviously enough people watch his movies that a career can be supported. That is all well and good, but let's just look at things with a little objectivity here.

1) 8 million people watched the season finale of Jersey Shore last year.

The point here is that just because a significant number of people watch it, doesn't mean that it is good. Or even worthwhile in any sort of social context, let alone specific ones like comedy or entertainment.

2) The big announcement comes where? On Conan.

This in itself should be the big clue-in for everyone that it is pretty much over for Farrell. If a third-rate late-night talk show is the best platform you are able to secure for the announcement of the sequel of your biggest movie, the logical conclusion that must be made is that your appeal as a performer is limited at best.

FinFangFark: Grown Ups

WTF?!? Not a single thing happened in that movie. There was no point to it whatsoever. The only redeeming factor was that parts of it was shot in the area where I live so I kept looking for places I know.

I said they were funny and different...apart from Sandler's usual screaming monkey routine...I never said they were good.

Except that he's known for coming on to Conan in character and doing things like this. It's like Crispin Glover on Letterman without the drugs.

Really?

Maybe Anchorman isn't your cup or tea, that's cool. But I think the reason the announcement was made on Conan is because, of any late-night talk show, most people who have seen the original are watching Conan. (or Stewart or Colbert, respectively) Those are the three options. I think it makes perfect sense and the sequal will do just fine.

Or maybe he should have made the annoucement on Leno, so the elderly would have been confused as to what time machine this Burgandy fellow just stepped out of. Think about it buddy...

I'm still annoyed that Jim Carrey didn't stick with actual acting instead of sticking to his tired schtick. He was great in Eternal Sunshine.
