phaseolus: It's a funny comment, but Medvedev might want to know that a foreigner advising the American electorate against making stupid choices winds up being perversely counterproductive. It's like taunting the dynamite monkey.

Remember how it played out back in '04 when a bunch of Brits wrote letters to Ohioans begging them not to re-elect Bush??

He wasn't adressing the American electorate, but answering questions at an international press conference. When a frontrunner candidate for the position of leader of the strongest superpower on the planet describes Russia as his country's enemy number one, expect international media to ask questions.
The rest of the world takes an interest in who leads your country, because it affects us. You'll get used to it.

True and it is odd how willing the GOP is to accept donation from foreign sources.

Check again in a few months, Dimitri. By then, someone will have given Mitt a good shake and flipped his "appeal to the general electorate" switch. He won't be quite so crazy/stupid then.

This. Given the rhetoric out of the GOP this year, they are making a push for a return to 1592.

Or that Russia has something to gain from Obama being elected...namely the reduction of the missile defenses. Medvedev and Putin don't have altruistic wishes, and the fact that you think they do, just because they agree with your political party, is the epitome of blind partisanship.

Missile defenses? What, the waste of money called Star Wars? Or do you think getting rid of a few of the thousands of weapons that should NEVER be used is bad somehow?

Missile defense has nothing to with it, and wouldn't do shiat anyway in countering a Russian ICBM saturation attack.

Jake Havechek: Missile defense has nothing to with it, and wouldn't do shiat anyway in countering a Russian ICBM saturation attack.

So which is it? Is there a threat of a "Russian ICBM saturation attack" or not? If there is then Romney is right. If there isn't then Medvedev is right. Why do the Russians fear a missile defense for a few rogue missiles when the other nuclear powers have no such fear? It seems to me that it's the Russians who are stuck in a 70s mindset, thinking that they need to be able to somehow threaten Western Europe and the United States with an "ICBM saturation attack."

There's no threat but there is a possibility. The USA and former USSR countries are still at Cold War readiness states. We could easily both launch-on-warning if something stupid happens.

BillCo: Of course the Russians want a Democrat in office. They know that a Republican won't bend over and take it like a liberal will.

Like that damn lib Truman who actually used nuclear weapons in anger, and told Stalin to STFU with the Berlin airlift? Or that cowardly lib Kennedy who got Russian nukes out of Cuba, and who authorized the invasion thereof? Or that damn lib Johnson who escalated the Vietnam war? Or that philandering southern lib who enforced the no-fly zone in Iraq, beat the Serbs to a pulp, and fired some cruise missiles right up Al-Qaeda's kiester? Or the cowardly black lib in office right now who had Osama killed?

Mr. Coffee Nerves: We really need the Soviet Union back. Without them the GOP has been forced to turn their bile inward. "Islamic Terrorism" is just too abstract a concept for them, and it's hard for them to explain why a $6 billion aircraft carrier is needed to fight a 15-year-old kid living in a cave with a $30 AK-47.

You notice the amount of flailing about the GOP has been doing since the death of bin Laden took even "Islamic Terrorism" off the table. They don't have a good enemy right now, and it's making them CRAZY. It's why they're pushing Iran so hard--"We gotta have someone to fight!"

I see Obama isn't done embarrassing us yet. Please bend over for Russia more. More begging. More pleading. Make sure you apologize when people state the obvious about Russia and Putin. Also sell your people out to foreign powers, promising to do them favors once you get into your last term.
