The pet shop owner probably turned surly because the pig has already been put down. Once a pig has acclimated to a family, it is unable to transition back to either the wild or a new owner.

Sad, but Chumly is sleeping with the eggs now.

Seriously, he could have been mistaken about the law and he had taken the steps for a refund.

What should be done is a reconsideration of the rule. I'm sure it's an old blanket barnyard animal rule that prevents a neighbor from running a small scale farm in a residential neighborhood, but having one potbelly pig isn't going to turn the city into Green Acres

Anyway, I think they are more concerned about this possibility.
