im glad to be abel to say i caught a game at old Yankee Stadium. havne't been back to NYC since but yeah, that was on my "must do" list. Twins were in town. Clemens started, mariano closed it out. this would have been circa may 2002. June. whatever.

My father and I went the last season it was open. We are not Yankee fans but it seemed like something that had to be done.

In seriousness, why not. They're still a top team, they're still a couple balls and strikes going a different way from getting in the tournament and who knows what happens after that.

Whoa... we won't have any rational discussion around here! Take those sensibilities out of here, mister!

Listen, everything is technically "better" about the new Stadium. Wide concourses that allow you to see the field while you're buying a beer. Bigger bathrooms so you don't have to stand in line forever. Visually it's gorgeous.

It's just not ... it's not right. I spent half my life growing up at the old place and knew it like the back of my hand, this one isn't home.

Take your kids, your nieces/nephews, or grand kids and let it become their home. Then the stadium will start to have some of the character that the old place oozed.

It needs a little grime, I just figured I'd start pissing in the sinks and on the runways. But, your plan might work.

Really though, you're right. I'm sure old time Yankee fans hated the renovation in the mid-70s because it completely changed the ballpark.

yeah, i was surprised at how freaking old and outdated it was, but....come on man. Ruth. DiMaggio. Reggie. Mantle. Koufax. Jackie. Willie. Everybody played there. to say nothing of the great NFL moments that happened there. or Ali fights. a shrine.

i havne't been to a ton of ballparks. my list:

Angels
Jack Murphy / Qualcomm (never been to Petco)
Dodger Stadium
Old Busch Stadium
Oriole Park
Old yankee stadium
Candlestick ("the coldest winter i ever spent was July in San Francisco", as Twain said. it was juuuuuuuuuust before the 1994 strike. freezing balls in the upper deck. in july! unreal.)

ehh.....i think that's it. had a chance to see a game at Giants new park (well, ten years new) but passed.

As a lifelong Sox fan, I'm proud to say that the one time I made the trek to the old Yankee Stadium, the home team got their butts handed to them by the Devil Rays, with Randy Johnson getting booed off the mound.

we were sitting like 5-6 rows from the top, third base side. i was amazed how the entire stadium damn near lived and died on eveyr pitch. strike? cheer. ball? boo. the whole stadium. hell, dbacks games, half the people are donig crossword puzzles or crocheting. bizarre.

(on that note, i love how i get wanded down at a freakign D back game, yet some old farking bluehair can get 12" knitting kneedles past security to knit a farking sweater. but i digress).

i started yelling DARRICK JEEEDAAAAH after every play. no matter what happened. twins at bat, dude flies out to right. yankees at bat, the 6-7-8 retired, jeter never gets on deck. "DAAAAAARICK JEEEEDAH!!!" my wife was telling me to shut up as i might get my ass kicked. i kept doing it.

It's why I only claim to have been to the second Yankee Stadium. The House Steinbrenner Destroyed The House That Ruth Built For.

And that game probably wasn't the best indicator of the quality of Yankee fans; final score was 14-3 Sox, with the Unit losing to Beckett. Think it was about the 7th inning that I realized half the upper deck was already long gone. By the end it was just a bunch of Sox fans with us.

And like BunkoSquad, I also hope most of the pink hats get the fark outta Fenway, along with arrogant asswipe college dudes who biatch and moan at people taking their seats at the second-to-top row and then leave in the farking fifth inning to go drinking on Lansdowne Street.

\yes, that last part really did happen to people in front of us in 2009
\\yes, that means we ended up with last row seats, along the 3rd base line in front of the socks on the clothesline painting

I think alot have moved on to the Bruins and Pats but they will always be there. There is nothing better than a day at the ball park. Mrs. Highway loves Fenway. I do my best to try to get her to know all the players before we get to our seats but she really doesnt care. She likes the hot dog, the beer, the warm day. She does hate when people sit there and chat the entire game which is a plus. She also doesnt care when I call her a pink cap which is annoying.

Slu: zarberg: ricewater_stool: Has Boston improved their rotation? No? Well good luck then.

Well, do you consider Clay Buchholz healthy and not having DiceK an improvement? The biggest questions are will Beckett stay healthy and can Bard be a successful starter. If those are both yes, they have one of the better rotations in the AL

AL Rotations better than Boston, off the top of my head:

Rays
Yankees
Tigers
Angels
Rangers
Mariners - Maybe
Indians - Maybe

So I suppose you are right if better = Middle of the pack.

Man, there is some horrible pitching in the AL this year. The Angels are arguably a top 4 staff and have Jerome Williams pitching.

Is Jerome Williams actually in the rotation? Most everyone is going to have a crappy 5 starter at some point, and the Angels have a top three of Weaver, Haren and Wilson. I don't necessarily believe in CJ Wilson, but that's a solid rotation.

I could be wrong, but isn't young pitching the Mariners whole appeal, which is what allowed them to trade Pineda? Morrow is also good.

Williams is hurt again. I bet the Angels, with Haren, Santana, Wilson and Williams, lead the AL in missed starts. The Angels won't need a #5 pitcher until April 15th so it doesn't matter yet, but I bet you see Garrett Richards at #5 more than Williams.

\Wilson threw 223 innings of 2.94 ERA in a bandbox last year, but the deeper fences at LAAOA Stadium won't help him nearly as much as losing Andrus, Beltre and Kinsler picking his ground balls will hurt.

Their announced rotation after Hernandez is Jason Vargas, Hector Noesi, Blake Beavan and Kevin Millwood. Beavan is young but he had under 4 K/9 last year when in the majors so it probably shouldn't be expected that he'll be good this year. Noesi is a young command/control guy who is fairly meh, Vargas is 29 and isn't anything special either. Kevin Millwood is Kevin Millwood.

The thing that kills me about the new YS is that they pushed the seats back in the upper deck, instead of on an angle like the old YS. Hell, those upper deck seats weren't too shabby at all.

They were great, and I think the last row in the current stadium is still a decent seat, but they basically chopped 10-15 rows off the front of the previous upper deck so the front row now is much worse than it used to be.

Plus, they lost the effect of the upper deck looming over the entire stadium. Acoustically, a lot more noise is lost before it ever reaches the field.

Nah. They may finish 3rd, but it'll be a comfortable 3rd. There's a big chasm between the Yanks/Sox/Rays and the Jays and Orioles currently. I can't see the Jays breaking top 3 without something significant.
